This hotel was a total dump. The place is old, dreary and depressing. It is awful and we couldn't wait to leave. Stay elsewhere! The room was dirty and the fixtures and furniture were ancient and crappy. Bedspread was that cheesy shiny polyester that you don't want to touch. Bathroom was dilapidated, too. Shelf and tabletops were dirty and had some stray nails on them. Window sill was covered in dust. It's the kind of place where you don't want to go barefoot in the room. The owner even tried to scam us by telling us that a taxi to the dock to board the Hurtigruten cruise the next morning would be expensive for the short 2 kilometer ride. He said he would drive us there for half the cost of a cab ride. We called the cab company to inquire about the price and they quoted us half of what this owner tried to charge us! Wow! Not only is this dump way overpriced but the owner tried to scam us by "offering" to charge us double the cost of a taxi to the boat dock. We are amazed that Orbitz gives this place a 3.7 rating as nothing could be less accurate! Even by a stretch of the imagination, this place rates no more than a 1 or 2 out of 5. You couldn't pay me to stay in this hotel again.
We arrived very late but were greeted warmly. No elevator; however, our luggage was taken to a higher floor in a dumb-waiter. We left before anyone arrived in the morning; however, we left the key on the desk as instructed. The starkness of the hotel seemed to 'match' the starkness of Kirkenes.
