The short version: Casa Bella is beautifully appointed, professionally serviced and conveniently located. It has a great ambiance inside and out. The patio with its outdoor kitchen, cabana, and hot tub looks brand new. The hot tub was a hit and very clean. Our details: We selected Casa Bella as the location for our annual CEO retreat. I'm not sure you could find a more selective group of individuals that our ten CEOs and business owners. This was our first time doing an overnight event. We wanted to cook a meal together so required a kitchen. Casa Bella provided all we needed and more. The house is stunning, with a great layout of bedrooms, baths and live/work space. We began in the living room for a round-robin check-in. Then segued to dinner prep and spirits, breaking out the wine in the wood-paneled dining room. Many hands found their spot to help in the kitchen, It's old school but very functional. We kept the stemmed glasses full and gathered around the polished wood dining table for more stories, beverages, and friendship. The dining room fits 10 perfectly. Our cooks praised the restaurant quality stove. The only thing we could have used more of was counter space - perhaps an IKEA kitchen island? After dinner, a raucous version of celebrity charades went on until midnight in the living room. We cooked a full breakfast for 10 in the morning, followed by a working session around the dining room table. Both days we ventured into town for lunch, First at Palooza's Pup (excellent) and then at VJB Winery for lunch plus tasting. On departure day I slipped into the hot tub on the private patio and didn't come out for a while. A long while :) We were all sated, well rested and energized. A week later, I'm still getting emails from the group complementing the venue and the experience we had there. This place will sell out. We're booking now for next November. Thank you Lori and Tyler. We'll be back! Barbara and TheCEOBoard
This house was amazing & gorgeous! The property had so much to offer that we wish we would have stayed much longer to be able to enjoy all of the wonderful amenities! We enjoyed use of the beautiful patio, especially the hot tub and fire pit. The outdoor kitchen was perfect for our dinner with friends. The rooms were meticulously clean and beautifully decorated. Only complaint would be that the bed in our room (main level bedroom) was incredibly uncomfortable (and squeaky, too). We ended up taking to the couch one night. Other than that, everything was top notch and we can't wait to visit again in the future!
It was my 40th birthday!! We started the day ziplining at Sonoma Canopy Tours in Occidental. I made reservations for the both of us at sweet Casa Bella. We were greeted by Marga who was so very sweet and welcoming to us. We stayed in one of the rooms at the main house looking over Highway 12. The property was well-manicured and very relaxing. That night we walked to dinner at the Italian trattoria down the street. When we returned to Casa Bella, our room overlooked a glow in the dark maze. We ventured to it and enjoyed every minute of it. While we were there, we also enjoyed the outdoor jacuzzi which was a wonderful way to end the night. We woke up the next morning to the smell of a wonderful breakfast prepared by Marga. The scones were to die for. After breakfast, we enjoyed the jacuzzi again and continued to relax with indoor massages. We were grateful to have had the opportunity to stay at such a serene getaway and have the chance to recharge. Hoping to revisit this haven one day soon.
This entire property is in need of renovation. The fires destroyed the "cabana area" and the hot tub is in a poor location and is not well cared for-our children all got rashes called Folliculitis from improper chemicals in the hot tub. The property itself needs work and the house should be updated. The kitchen, which is relatively small for the size of the house, had lots of dishes but all the pots and pans, knives and other cooking tools are in terrible shape so it is very difficult to cook anything. Also, the house is right on a major highway so there is constant noise from traffic. Not the place to go if you want a relaxing getaway!
We had a family gathering with folks coming from 3 corners of the country and needed to find an amazing spot to impress everyone.... Casa Bella did just that and in Grand Fashion!!!! Our onsite hose Laurie was awesome to deal with and took great care of us. The grounds were perfectly manicured and folks spent a good amount of time hanging out in the Cabanas! It's location put us right in the middle of all the wineries you would ever want to visit and at the end of the day the house provided a quiet respite to end the day and enjoy good company! we searched high and low to find just the right spot and everyone in our group said we did just that! awesome experience!
We live in Sonoma and when we have friends or family visiting, Casa Bella is our favorite place to recommend or arrange for stays. It shows off the best of the valley because there are super accommodating small (and excellent) tasting rooms nearby (walkable) but also popular ones like St. Francis, Benziger and Kunde about a five minute drive away. The property is pretty self sufficient too - hot tub, nice kitchen, lots of bedrooms. When we had a reunion last year, my parents stayed in the Dolce (part of the house but separate entrance) so they had their privacy while my cousins, aunts and uncles had their own bedrooms in the big house. They and we like that it's in a quiet neighborhood so it's not the hustle bustle of a big city or touristy spot yet I was also able to arrange group massages for everyone and they were pampered as if they were at a resort. Would definitely recommend for small groups and families.
My sister and I and our extended families (a total of twenty two people) stayed at Casa Bella for a very special family gathering during the last week of June and the first week of July. I intentionally delayed writing my review because I wanted to see if my overall negative impression was the result of a one-time anomaly or if our experience was an indication of deteriorating trend at this property. Sadly, it appears (based on the recent reviews on this site) that the latter is the case. So let me add my observations to the crescendo of unhappy guests at Casa Bella. This once obviously lovely old home and its out buildings and grounds are all just plain tired and very much in need of some TLC. For instance: 1) the automatic icemaker in the refrigerator was lying in pieces inside the freezer compartment - result no on-site ice available; 2) the outdoor gas grill was an absolute embarrassment - it was so dirty that it was probably a health hazard - and barely functional; 3) one of the bedroom/bath combos in the main house came without access to the light switch for the bath - we were required to ask the on-site manager to turn on the lights so that bath could be used - this assumed that the manager was actually "on-site" which she was not most of the time; 4) there was approximately 1 day's supply of coffee pods for the one coffee maker in the main house; 5) there were no extra paper products for the kitchens, either in the main house or in the cottage; 6) the grounds were neglected, although a young man did come to mow once while we were there, not that there was much too mow since the lawn and the plantings were in need of irrigation; and 7) numerous annoyances in the kitchen (e.g. kitchen knives that would not cut warm butter and no way to sharpen them, no vegetable peeler to be found, an inoperable lazy Susan storage cabinet, 3 flashlights on the property - none of them worked! A final observation about the on-site manager. She was seldom actually on-site and did not (at least as far as I observed) do anything resembling "managing" this property. I gave Casa Bella 3 stars only because of its location and the fact that in spite of the many aggravations, it retains considerable of charm and I can imagine that once was an outstanding destination.
My group spent months and months researching where we would stay to celebrate our friend's 40th and 50th birthdays. We settled on this property and were excited to enjoy our time there. We rented every single room on the property, therefore spending quite a bit of money and also knew that we would not be bothering other vacationers. We were told that we could not play soft music outdoors at two pm, paid an early arrival deposit and the place was not ready, were constantly harassed to move indoors at all times of day by an ever watching, intolerant property manager. On top of all of this, the owner is now falsely accusing us of breaking things like solar panels and irrigation lines as well as damaging baseboards and walls. All completely made up. Do not stay here. Go anywhere else.
A group of 17 friends and I stayed at Casa Bella for the weekend and it was absolutely amazing! We occupied the main house as well as the two cottages on the property. The facilities were beautiful! The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to cook meals, including nice touches like spices and kitchen staples like cocoa, sugar and flour. The bedrooms were spacious - the beds were so comfy! The bathrooms had Bee Nice toiletries that smelled divine, and each room had plush robes. There was a large dining room table and the living room was large enough for us to all listen to music and relax in the evening. The fire pit in the backyard was great, and the jacuzzi was a big hit! The jacuzzi was surrounded by several large sun beds. We didn't get to take advantage of them because it was pretty chilly outside (those plush robes came in handy!), but I can imagine lounging outside on a beautiful summer day. The concierge was extremely helpful in getting us settled in and giving us a tour, and she responded very quickly to any questions or requests. Leading up to our arrival, Tyler was extremely helpful and recommended several wineries and restaurants for our group. There were a number of wineries within walking distance as well as places to eat or pick up food. Casa Bella provided a passport that granted free tastings at several dozen wineries, including a number of those within walking distance. A contingent visited the nearby wineries - Kunde was a favorite. A group of us drove and visited Buena Vista, Cline, and Jacuzzi wineries. I would recommend them all - they each had something unique to experience. Casa Bella is a short drive from downtown Sonoma and even more options for food or drinks. There are not enough superlatives for how wonderful our stay at Casa Bella was. It's perfect for a large group, but I could definitely see a couple or a small group enjoying it just as much.
We visited Kenwood as part of our USA roadtrip in Oct 2015. We were looking forward to our visit in Napa and Sonoma, and luckily we got to stay at Casa Bella, which was the perfect inn. Marga the host welcomed us in the most friendly way, making sure we had everything we needed and recommending many fine places all around for a wine tasting or for a quick bite. As a matter of fact, she recommended a place nearby, Paradise Ridge, which had the best wine we have tasted throughout our Napa vacation. We spent 2 nights at the BUONA NOTTE room, which was spacious, clean, airy and bright. I was a little concerned with the traffic noise coming from the main road, but the thick windows and a nice white noise machine in the room made me forget about it (If you want to sleep with the windows open and sensitive to noise, be sure to ask Marga about a room preference). The grounds had everything we could ever ask: beautiful sitting areas, hot tub, flowers and trees all around... Breakfast was splendid and generous, we splurged on the fine delicacies that Marga made for us. Breakfast is served in one room, all the guests sitting around one large table. We loved it since it gave us a chance to meet and talk to other visitors. The location was about 20-40 min. drive anywhere we wanted, the roads were safe and we drove them with no problem day and night. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Napa or Sonoma to stay at The Casa Bella.
