Our anniversary on Friday night, booked online, last available room. Must be good. Could have cried when I saw the state of room, dirty, dusty, peeling wallpaper, curtains like rags, pillows were flat. Bathroom was shabby, dirty, tile grout filthy and bodged. Water spilt over floor from shower so moped it up with towel, only to find it turned black from dirty floor. No shampoo or little bottles of shower gel NOTHING apart from a small soap. Then we were told that we opulent have Wifi in room as only worked downstairs. Breakfast was small, with even smaller eggs like a quail size. Parking, room for 3 cars outside hotel on road, so had to park in museum park for extra £5. All in all a very disappointing stay. I told deputy manager at check out time and showed her photos I had taken. She agreed it was appalling and said she would pass message on. I also emailed manager, but sadly no response. A bit like all the reviews they read and take seriously, shame they only listen and don't act upon reviews. Never will recommend this discussing hotel, I would have been happier with backpackers. Oh and also on a busy road, not set back
Stayed here just the one night in room 107 ... firstly in comparison to many hotels I have stayed in for the same price it did not deliver ... the bathroom was incredibly dated ... the room was so hot and stuffy and we were unable to open a window for fresh air as window was stuck ! Which led to a very uncomfortable nights sleep ... although the towels provided and bed linen was clean the general decor of room left a lot to be desired ... peeling wallpaper stains on walls curtains falling to pieces ... on the positive there was plenty of tea and coffee and the few staff we encountered were relatively helpful and friendly ...
Stayed here as part of a coach trip. Been on a few of these short breaks before so wasn't expecting much which was a good job as this place was the worst I had ever stayed in. Dirty, old-fashioned, desperately in need of a refurbishment, ghastly inedible food - it was just horrible. Apart from the cheery more mature lady serving, the staff were pretty unhappy looking. It was just an awful experience and I won't be back.
Second visit but very disappointing. Firstly I must stress that the staff are lovely and can't do enough for you but........ This hotel is old, tired and in need of full refurbishment and a character injection. Other reviewers say it's a cheap bed but at £72 for the night I wouldn't agree the price is cheap, only the standard of the rooms. As a regular visitor to Kendal the price is typical but we normally receive so much more from the lovely available guest houses we've stayed in. To say the room is basic is an understatement and while it's nice to have 12 small cartons of UHT milk, I'd rather have a few complimentary toiletries and a clean shower! Breakfast also of low standard. Greasy and measly. A tiny sausage, cold beans, fatty rasher of bacon and cold fried egg. A hard triangle of what I think was fried bread, also cold. The manager should go and stay in a few of the lovely guest houses nearby and see what customers can get for their money elsewhere. Wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Needs a visit from The Hotel Inspector.
Stayed here 10th to 14th July 2017. The food was good with an excellent choice at breakfast and dinner time. Always a choice of 3 starters, 4 mains and 4 sweets. Hot food was always served hot, not lukewarm. The staff were efficient and friendly. Bedrooms were clean, towels were pure white and good quality and plenty of tea, coffee etc was provided in the rooms. Free WiFi was available in the public rooms.
I stayed 4 nights in this hotel with a coach party from Glasgow, I enjoyed every minute of our stay, the hotel is due for refurbishment but is spotlessly clean, the staff make your stay a happy one and nothing is too much trouble for them and all done with a smile. Michael the manager was so friendly and entertained us with singing on one of the nights, he was very good. The food is piping hot and the choice on the menu was beyond belief, so many choices. I would definitely go back to this hotel.
Stayed here recently on a golf trip where price was important! The County Hotel certainly delivered. The deal was cheap as chips. The hotel is tired to say the least, but the service was friendly and they served a breakfast cooked to order in the morning which was welcome.
Loved every minute of our stay in this lovely hotel ❤️ Ideal location, wonderful staff, lovely food, nothing was too much trouble for this little gem. We hope to return really soon thank you ❤️ Michael (manager) was a true gentleman & entertained us Friday evening with over 2 hours of singing he was fabulous. Eric the entertainment the following evening was fabulous too with his wit & knowledge of songs from every decade, sang with a story regarding that year, he was amazing too superb❤️
hotel maybe dated and in need of decorating but overall staff very friendly and helpful, our room was clean choice of menu each night of a high standard, but some people expect 5 star treatment as a lower price,we stayed for two nights via a coach tour and loved it,shame we had to leave and come home.do not believe some peoples comments of the hotel its a cheap hotel with good food and in a good access for touring the lake district.
Awesome hotel. Not sure if restaurant is Michelin star but deserves to be. Room 117 seems to be rather difficult to get in but had brilliant time!! Wouldn't change a thing. Anne was full of fun and quite flirtatious
