It was an amazing experience staying in this hotel..extremely spacious and beautiful property with good comfortable rooms and amenities. The staff is extremely humble efficient and cordial. Everything was neat and tidy in my room when I returned back as I had come for a conference..The souvenir shop at the lobby is one where you can get good stuff at fair prices. Food was excellent and the servers especially Mr Dharmendra takes extra efforts to make sure you are comfortable and takes it upon him to make sure we don't miss out on any delicacy. Housekeeping staff is really good and helpful...they got me a heater as they had centralized cooling and it was freezing cold outside..in totality had a really good and comfortable stay. Would highly recommend this hotel if you visit Kathmandu!!
The Crown Plaza Soaltee offers a nice break in the middle of busy and dusty Kathmandu. This hotel is strongly positioned amongst local standards. Nice pool environment, great park around the hotel, good facilities for venues, and above all nice, efficient and friendly staff. Certainly worth considering putting on your list when travelling in the region.
First of all... I found the location quite nice. Lots of space inside the compound, with good restaurants. Easy 15-20 minute walk to Swanayasbhum pagoda, and about the same to Durbar Square. Through an OK neighborhood that allows you to see normal people going about their business. Not worth to take taxis from there, unless you go to Thamel or farther afield. It is Kathmandu, so it isn't a leafy, relaxed walk but it is interesting. Where the hotel really let me down was in services... I tried 3 times to book a mountain flight, leaving my interest with the front desk only to come down a few hours later to a new crew at the reception and my request lost in limbo. The third time I decided to go with the reception to the travel agent in house which was 2 young men who asked me to pay in advance, without giving me a confirmation. I found this quite unprofessional so I walked away. I was very disappointed that an international hotel wasn't able to book this for me... I am sure I am not the first one with this request... Disappointed. The breakfast staff tries hard and despite a few inconsistencies, they treated me very well. Spire Elite and received no upgrade, last room had a window covered with a tapestry that let in a lot of light. Next time I will try another property.
Cockroaches in bathroom, terrible service, poor upkeep, steep prices. Not worth a stay! This hotel has fallen drastically since the last time I stayed here. Quiet a disappointment. Probably the worst Crowne Plaza I have stayed in. This is certainly not a deserving of its IHG affiliation. The staff attitudes are equally undeserving of a guest stay.
I joined my husband who was on business nine days in Kathmandu. The opinions expressed are those of my husband and I. First, the negative aspects so people can determine if they want to disregard these issues: 1. We have stayed in numerous hotels in 22 countries in Asia in these last six years and the front desk male staff at Crowne Plaza Soaltee are the most arrogant and dismissive as if they are the highest on the caste system. 2. They did not have "exchange rates from the government" and could not exchange our money. I found out four days later that the casino on site exchanges money so I had to walk over to it, not very convenient and I should have been told the casino would change our money. 3. Room temperature is centrally set at 22 C which was freezing for us from Singapore. The POSITIVES: 1. Staff both male and female in Garden Terrace and Chinese restaurants and all housekeeping and exterior guards are wonderful, helpful, friendly, and kind. 2. Housekeeping (female) recognized we were buying extra bottled water so they gave us two additional bottles a day! 3. Housekeeping (female) recognized we needed extra wash clothes and gave us extra. 4. Pranesha, a Duty Manager, I think, is a competent young woman with good sense. She had a portable heater brought to the room and she came up to check on it. She also engaged a service tech to get our safe operational. She was helpful for our 8 days by calling our driver and helping arrange our times and venues speaking to the driver in his language. 5. The Cottage Arts store in the basement next to the salon is a real find. The prices are lower than stores outside the hotel. The owner is a fine man who appreciates customers interested in the artisans crafting his wares. He is trustworthy. 6. The breakfast buffet is delicious. We travel a lot and have come to expect smoked salmon and Crowne Plaza even replaced the platter when it emptied. The egg station men are good-humored and have to tolerate a lot of impatient guests. These guys made us perfect over-easy eggs every day! 7. The Chinese Restaurant is fairly priced for the excellent fare they offer. They make perfect dry martinis too. 8. The Himalayas are not in view as the title of one reviewer states. You can see them from Dhulikel and Pokhara or take a Buddha Air or Yeti Air flight. 9. Bedding - our bed and bedding were high-grade, comfy duvet, good pillows, and the curtains close tightly so you do not awaken at sunrise unless you want to do so. 10. The bathroom has the Asian hose next to the toilet, which is great when you have become accustomed to it. The shower is large, clean, and they supply good quality amenities. You will use a lot of the lotion due to the dry air. Our hair dryer was good. Be eco-conscious and hang the towels and use them again. The shower has HOT hot water, be careful. 11. The wifi in our room was reliable; the wifi in the lobby was not always reliable. Ironically, it worked great outside! 12. The souvenir store in the lobby has a friendly man who will change small amounts of your money, The stores that sell local wares in the basement and this shop are offering good products and good prices as I shopped around a lot to compare prices, so, if you want a fair priced object or carpet or clothing, consider these shops. It is safer than taking out your money to buy a souvenir in a square. 13. Western food on the menu: obviously, the local food is best but if you want western food, do not expect it to be identical to that in your country. I ordered a rueben advertized in the menu as ham, swiss cheese, Russian dressing, sauerkraut, etc. but what I got was a roast beef sub sandwich without sauerkraut. It was delicious and so big my husband helped me eat it. Do not complain about your food unless it is totally incorrect or bad in taste. You cannot expect exactly what you get in your country. This is Nepal and though this is a Crowne Plaza, you cannot expect western duplication of food at 100%. 14. I think the hotel is beautifully maintained, constantly polished and dusted and swept. The decor is lovely and there are art objects of museum quality. The gardens and pool area are lovely, Walk around and enjoy them. Sit outside in their leather chairs and relax ...you can meditate by the exquisite stone-carved Buddha outside in a garden of its own. 15. You can walk around the local streets and gather the flavor of its people. Everyone was friendly to me, So, though my husband, me, and many guests shared their disappointment with us about the nasty men at the reception and checkout desk, we would stay at this Crowne Plaza again because many more people WERE nice, helpful, and kind. In fact, when my husband checked out he was handed a card to complete. He gave it to me because he was upset at how he was treated, I filled out the form giving a good rating. When I approached the desk to slide the card into its designated box, the tall, bespectacled man (who was severely rude to my husband ) asked me to give him the card (presumably to toss out as he may have thought I wrote a poor review) and I replied to him "No, it goes HERE!" and I walked away. You cannot let two nasty men ruin your stay. Though all employees should be civil, helpful, most were kind and friendly.
I just visit the hotel for a dinner but they did not get any penny as their service is totally poor No Wifi Staff is also no hospitality at all I visit the room and it is super old and lack of maintenance Not recommended to stay in this hotel and I would not go to this hotel any more So bad having such a experience by IHG hotel
The buildings of this hotel from outside with beautiful building and plush gardens look awesome from outside, but once you are inside- the story is entirely different, especially for a business traveller. The internet services, house-keeping, wide choice of meals for a single traveller are very much below satisfactory levels. Internet can frustrate you to death..Gym has limited equipments notwithstanding the building outlay and the brand. Yes, the breakfast is quite good, and has a good spread..but a single traveller may feel frustrated during the dinner time..Avoid for business travel, esp if you are a single business traveller
it's one of the famous and beautiful hotel. hotel is very nice antique and nice ambience. staffs are very helpful. big space. located in kathmandu. restaurent also very very nice. you can get various food. you can swim here. hangout in garden.
Starting from lackadaisical staff at check in to no wi-fi service in the room, staff was not bothered about keeping the room clean or providing basic amenities like towels in the room. Even the staff at the restaurant for breakfast was non-responsive at all the occasions when approached. And was damn expensive for this kind of service and environment.
We stayed with my wife for one week and we enjoyed every moment. The staff are very friendly. The grounds are beautiful and relaxing. There are many well priced souvenir shops and the food is very good indeed.
