Made a flexible rate booking for Nov 2017 and eventually received contact that they need to pre-auth my card. I simply refused to, since my trip is quite some time away and there's no reason for me to enable my card strip for overseas charge when I am not yet travellling. Many international hotels do not have this practice, or at least, they take a pre-auth only when cancellation policy is up. So no matter prepaid or non-prepaid, the amount will still be blocked in your card. I cancelled my booking eventually. Unfortunately, too many people are not even sure of the banking law. If you do not want your card blocked way in advance even for a flexible booking, you should really consider staying at another hotel. I made several reservations in several cities of Taiwan and this is the only hotel (among those I have booked) doing this. Forced me to enable my card when I am not yet travelling? I take my business elsewhere, it's that simple.
We travel the island extensively for work, and the 85 Sky Tower is my favourite place in Kaohsiung. The rooms are well air conditioned and the view, even if not over the water, is always great. The breakfast is also very good and there are a lot of places to eat nearby. The staff is super friendly as well. One drawback is the limited number of power outlets in the room, and none are by the bed. However, if you come prepared it's not a big deal.
I stayed here for 3 nights while on business trip and visiting supplier. The overall experience is from the late evening arrival times and the early morning breakfast. I did not experience the hotel facilities, as there are several on site. This is a large hotel with Lobby on 30-something-floor. To get there is a little bit of Labyrint of walking and elevators. Also the elevator-plan to the rooms is something little to study before to understand and do it by nature... Rooms are spacious, with my three requirements fulfilling my minimum standard of Sleeping quality, internet-speed and assorted breakfast . TV channels however not so widely choice international channels/HBO etc.
The first time I stayed in this hotel is around 2001. The hotel back in early 2000, the overall experience was excellent. The service is good. Hotel was clean and there were many TV channels to select. In one word, I will come back again. However, things are totally different in my second stay. The first thing I notice when I entered the hotel is the smell is not good. Poor air circulation. I think the internal structure are all blocked by glasses that makes the air circulation poor. The room are not clean compared to my first stay. I felt the skin itching when on bed. Too many China TV channels. TV channels were not stable. The coffee maker is locked under the TV cabinet. It is inconvenient. It has fitness center and swimming pool but open to public. So, it makes the pool crowded because the pool is already small. But it is close to the famous library. Within walking distance.
This is an excellent five star property. The hotel lobby is on the 39th Floor. The hotel location is very good, near to several places like Kaohsiung exhibition centre, tram station, harbour, malls, shopping area etc. The room is neat and clean and also the wash rooms. The room size is good. In order to reach your room you would have to take 2 lifts. The first lift would take you from ground floor to the 39th floor (lobby of the hotel) and from there you need to change the lift to go to the room. Both the lifts are of very good speed and the entire system works very efficiently. The breakfast was very good both in terms of quality and the variety. The only disappointment I had with the hotel was the staff at the reception was not cooperative at all particularly the female staff. Both the female staff at the time of check in (the young girl and the other one, slightly elderly wearing a mask and I assume she was the senior or the boss had an attitude which one would normally not expect at such a good hotel).
The rooms are very spacious. The views are stunning. Staff is very polite and helpful. The breakfast selection is overwhelming and very tasty. The elevator situation is bit strange, since you not only need to change elevators to get to your room but also need to walk once around half a floor to reach the right elevator. The rooms are overall very clean. Unfortunately, I dropped my phone and had to move one of the sideboards where I found a pile of old trash. Unacceptable....
I needed to stay in Kaohsiung in order to catch and early morning flight on the following day and this hotel was a great place to chill and relax. It's only a short walk away from the riverside and plenty of local street food - plenty of options for dinner. The rooms were very well appointed and the bed was really comfortable - sure the furniture may be a few years old, but the wifi and TV was all up to date. If you are interested in modern architecture, there are many interesting buildings in Koahsiung - the library that is across the road from this hotel is very futuristic and welcoming - if only every city in th world had such an amazing space to study....
I stay at this place while attending our organization's annual event. Rooms are very comfortable and relieved. Some public facilities are also fun. There is a smoking room, important for me who still have bad habits, smoking.
I've been there already several times and usually for Business (but also private) and i really enjoy to stay in this outstanding Hotel. The Lobby is somewhere in Floor 39 and from there upwards the Hotel starts. The breakfast is located in a unique room with Sea view window, really something special. Be careful while booking as there are big price differences btw. the travel agents as well as direct booking.
The hotel is located in the highest building in Kaohsiung, so I have a great view of the harbour and city. It is dated and the design and layout seems to be from an earlier era. Otherwise no complaints.
