We spend about 2weeks with my family. Gorgeous house and impeccable furniture, good house keeping, good garage, and etc... I can see Mt.Mauna Kea & the some astronomical telescopes of many countries. The garden of The islands at Mauna Lani is well kept, beautiful grass,
We enjoyed two weeks at K1 and loved it. Well stocked everything - the owners thought of everything! We did temporary membership to sport/fitness centre and it was worth the hefty price. We loved the tennis (Gatorade and cold towels set up at each court). Our teenage son is a weightlifter and he had everything he needed. Islands is not on or near the beach but the sport facilities made it worthwhile and the private beach club is fab - you can rent paddle boards and there is a restaurant there too. The islands pool is incredibly peaceful because of the waterfall - and plenty of shade. Grounds extremely well maintained. I’d stay at the islands again.
We just returned yesterday from six nights at this beautiful property, unit A2 at the Islands at Mauna Lani. The main reason for four stars instead of five is the cost - $550/night (plus a substantial security deposit, which we expect to get back). There were just four of us (and it easily holds six). Since other reviews note that it’s a great value, it might be that I am underestimating the cost of a place to stay in August. If you can get this place for close to the $350/night shown in the VRBO rates section, it is well worth it. All the rooms are well-appointed, as are the outside areas. The grill worked well (although the electronic starter didn’t work). The kitchen is great, and it was full of spices - we did quite a bit of cooking. The coffee machine makes great coffee. There’s a large rice cooker. No complaints about the kitchen (although the knives aren’t too sharp). The pictures provided on VRBO show exactly what you can expect throughout the house. On the other hand, as noted in some reviews, you cannot hear (or see) the ocean from here. And while you can walk to places (The Shops are less than a mile away, as is the Mauna Lani hotel, and the Beach Club is a mile by foot), it was about 91F each day and we did very little walking. We did drive to the Shops fairly often, though, and to the Fairmont hotel at least once a day. The Shops has (among other things) a good Foodland store (the gourmet store referenced in another review), Tommy Bahamas and Ruth’s Chris. And the property is air conditioned, with separate Nest thermostats for each of the two floors. Given the outside temperature, this was critical! Donna was great, always replying within minutes of my sending a message. We had a few small problems with the property, but nothing that impacted our vacation. I’d recommend this property if you don’t need to be next to the ocean, if you need the space, and if the price suits you. We were very pleased with it.
We spend a week there with m 2 teenage daughters....had a great time. Explored the beautiful beaches, lots of great snorkeling, did an ATV ride, and just relaxed! Our favorite beach was Hapuna, 2nd favorite, Mauna Key (but limited parking here..we just got lucky! We also hiked to the Black Sand beaches which was beautiful. The place we stayed provided a garage full of toys...beach chairs, boogie boards, snorkel, mask, and fins and a cooler which was all very useful!
Our family enjoyed staying here for a week. There were 3 couples who got to stay in the spacious master suites and 2 kids who set up camp in the living room with the sofa sleeper. Each master suite had its own bathroom with jacuzzi tub and each had their own lanai in addition to the main lanai downstairs. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed. The Mauna Lani Beach Club was just a short walk on a trail that also happened to be the site of the Puakō Petroglyphs..bonus! The beach club is set on an idyllic little cove that's perfect for snorkeling which we did every day. The reef in the cove is filled with tropical fish and because there is a bit of sandy bottom before the reef begins, makes it a perfect shallow for kids to swim and play. There's also a great little restaurant & bar to grab frilly umbrella drinks at happy hour and super tasty poke. Adjacent to the beach club is a nice stroll through the kalahuipuaa fishing ponds. Our condo was steps away from the pool which had a fun rock grotto and waterfall. Water temp was perfect and made it a nice stop after the beach. We're not golfers, so when we weren't at the beach, we explored the rest of the island, saw the Thurston Lava Tunnels and went on snorkeling tours. See my review of Fair Wind Big Island Ocean Guides. There's a few great restaurants within walking distance in the small, upscale shopping center complete with a grocery. Tommy Bahama is fun for a Mai-tai, then get some really fantastic sushi at Monstera. The grocery has a wonderful variety of fresh fish to bring back and grill. Fantastic spot for a family getaway and can't wait to go back!
We rented townhouse Q1 on VRBO. It has 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Like all the units in The Islands it is very spacious. The master bedroom has a fantastic en suite bathroom with lots of counter space, and a separate shower, tub and wc. The 2 bedrooms each have their own lanai. The kitchen is extremely well stocked with pots, pans and every kind of cooking device you might need. The management was very accessible and accommodating. The development has its own pool which was never busy. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the beach or a 5 minute (or less) drive. Island guests can park in the Mauna Kea Beach Club private parking lot. This is one of the best snorkeling beaches on the Big Island. The Shops at Mauna Lani are a 15 minute walk or a 3 minute drive. There are some good restaurants and a surprisingly good grocery store. While Foodland is about one third the size of a mainland grocery store it has a good selection of products along with a deli counter, a fish counter and a wine store. Wifi did not work well in our house.
This was our 2nd time staying at The Islands of Mauna Lani for our family vacations. We loved it so much the first time that we brought more family with us this time and rented an extra house. It was absolutely perfect!!! Everyone had their own space and we saved a ton of money renting these beautiful houses vs. having to book individual hotel rooms. Not to mention the money we saved by cooking 90% of our meals instead of eating out. Although the kitchen in our unit could use some updating, everything worked fine and we were able to make breakfast and lunch every day of our trip without any issues. So really, that's just a personal preference and not a flaw of the resort. We would, and will, definitely stay at this resort on our next visit to the island.
Great family place to stay. Pool across the street from the condo but the private beach was a mile or so. Excellent snorkeling at the private beach and black sands beach. Housekeeping every day was so nice to have! Shopping on property was pricey. Shopping in Kona more reasonable but a 25 mile drive.
The condos are hugs and very well appointed.... The kitchen had all the tools we needed and even was supplied with condiments for our use, which is a hugs bonus as one does not need to go and buy sugar salt & pepper etc. The pool areas was wonderful as were the grounds. Shops and beaches were all around along with great places to walk..... Loved it,,,,,,
Why pay the same price for a hotel room with 400 sq ft when you can get 1800 sq ft or more for the price of a small overused hotel room. These units are spacious and very well appointed and super clean. If you are a golfer this is paradise. This property is close to everything you need including the beach just seconds away. I have been to Hawaii numerous times and this was our best stay.Dont miss a lunch at the Beach Club which is part of the Islands.
