Great re do of older structure Just very expensive

Excellent resort right on the water. It may not be as fancy and ostentatious as some of the other Kohala resorts, but it strikes a perfect balance: extremely nice but not overly stuffy. The staff was excellent. I was afraid that the resort itself would be overly crowded: long waits for the pool, cabanas, hot tub, etc. This was not the case. The resort compliments the surrounding environment, both the ocean and the lagoons. The snorkeling was excellent. I would recommend it to anyone planning a resort trip.

At last we finally were able to come back to the Mauna Lani. We stayed here on our honeymoon back in late 2012, and now came here years later with now two daughters to spend sometime and relax at the resort. Place hasn't changed much which is good and were greeted with a warm welcome with juice, towels to freshen up, and souvenir necklaces. We requested a ground level room which makes it easier for us to go in and out of was delivered as requested. One small detail that we reported right away is that the room still needed a lil bit of clean up, small debris on the carpet but was fixed. We were offered another room but opted they just clean it up. They were accommodating on our request for fresh ice everyday, they also set up a baby playpen for us. Beds were great, slept well, the property after a certain time is very quiet. Pool just a few steps from our room as well as the beach. Lots of things the rent out as part of the resort fee you pay. There are a few dining options, although not impressive they are good enough. They offer a shuttle to all the places on site, as well as to the Fairmont. The shopping also makes this place attractive to stay, since the have a Foodland to stock up on drinks, snacks, and that yummy poke they have. Golf and of course a spa are on the property, but you do have to take a shuttle ride to those places. They will be closing in Oct, and plan to reopen late next year under new ownership. I look forward to the new property and visiting again soon.

We had such an amazing time at the Mauna Lani resort. Our room was nice with a great view of the pool and ocean. We had the buffet breakfast every morning and it was delicious I highly recommend including it when you book your trip. The staff was so nice and helpful especially Edwin at the front desk. We were greeted with a refreshment and each given a kukui nut lei to welcome us to Hawaii so special. Loved the location such a beautiful beach and practiced gentle yoga every morning under the Milo tree (I really enjoyed taking Franks class loved his Hawaiian vibe) I would highly recommend this resort.

Lovely location, not overdone, gentle vibe. Quiet. Beautiful grounds, friendly staff.

Excellent Staff, Resort, Amenities! The beach isn't the most amazing (not white sand) but otherwise perfect. Enjoy!

Great saff. Very nice pool area and wonderful beach

We just have returned from a week at Mauna Lani Bay. We had a very nice and relaxing time. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. The beach is very nice. There are so many turtles! We saw so many sunning and swimming. Sunsets are breathtaking every night. We were surprised with a room upgrade at check in. Ocean view with a huge balcony. We loved sitting out there every morning listening to the ocean and the birds. I am hard pressed to think of any cons with this hotel other than two VERY minor ones. The first one would be to have more electrical outlets. In particular, close to the bed. There are none. At least not in our room. That is not to say they are not in the other rooms. They may be. Second would be maybe a little darker carpet so you can't see the traffic path. The carpet is very light in color and shows a lot of dirt and stains. I think they were going for the look of sand. I know hotel carpets are not the most clean thing but I'd prefer to not see what I'm walking on. LOL Like I said. Minor things. All in all we were extremely happy with this Resort and would definitely stay here again if we ever come back to the big island. We can not say enough good things about the staff. They always went above and beyond to be helpful. From the front desk, room service, to the bellmen. Extremely friendly and helpful. Always with big smiles on their faces. They seem to really love their jobs. Who wouldn't? It's Hawaii! Paradise every day! ❤️

Me and my family had a great time at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel. We had a great time swimming, snorkeling, and generally relaxing and having a good time. Definitely worth it! As with everything in Hawaii, food was not cheap, but having the option of buying breakfast there was just too convenient.

Excellent for resort life, lots of activity for kids and adults

Hotel is nice. Breakfast is expensive and the menu does not change. Watch out for the roaches in the rentals.

I enjoyed everything about Mauna Lani. The desk and concierge staff were warm, cordial, welcoming, professional effective and every bit the example of what I NOW understand to be the "aloha" spirit. Housekeeping, valet (part of regular service) and all other staff seem to earnestly want you to have a great time and it shows through their service. Rooms are clean, spacious with well thought out baths. For day trips throughout the big island, be sure to use the well stocked store on site. At first we drove to Kona and shopped Walmart for picnic and party provisions, only to find that the "Aldi style" store on site allows budget-conscious vacationers the option to side-step the pricier resort bars and restaurants. Mauna Lani offers every amenity one might desire and we appreciated the early concierge emails reminding us to make reservations for activities (we did snorkeling, volcano hiking and horseback riding), to prevent arriving only to find everything booked. The warning allowed us to research dates, prices and quality of our activities, although we did not use concierge recommendations.

Me and my wife were on our babymoon at this resort last May 2017. We really liked it and if we go back to Big Island we will probably stay there again (budget permitting). Really quiet hotel with lots of space to walk around even to another nearby beach with great snorkeling. Although not a very white sandy beach by the resort, the swimming was great as the water was shallow and very calm in this area; a plus having green sea turtles feed on this beach. The pool had very comfy relaxing areas. Rooms are big and quiet. Concierges and valet parking were great. Do get a massage outdoors at the spa. Really nice set up.

The location was excellent. The pools and grounds are very well kept. The beachs were beautiful. We really enjoyed the spa and golf course. It's the best vacation my wife an I have ever had.

Stayed in an ocean front room and we normally avoid hotels and stay in houses but the brevity of the trip made it impractical . Great snorkeling down at Beach club a few hundred yards south. Slept to ocean waves and generally the hotel had a chill vibe which we like. Meals and drinks were marked up big time but that is to be expected at a Hawaiian resort. We will stay again on any trip under a week

Mauna Lani provides all the amenities of a luxury resort with a unique beach location. It's a beautifully landscaped resort with very good food options.
