The hilltop location is as stunning as the brochure with 360o views for miles including the old town of Jaen. We rarely eat in Paradores, but we dined here twice! The quality was very good with excellent friendly service. Booking is advisable as the dining room with full of guests and visitors. The €35 menu is good value if you are hungry. The breakfast was average with good coffee. We spent a full day in Jaen, waking down from restaurant Salvador halfway down the hill. This was good advice from the concierge. There is lots to see, although a main museum and Arab baths were closed on a Monday. The cathedral was magnificent. The only drawback was dogs barking most of the night in a nearby valley.
The hotel is perched high above the city and reached by a winding but easy road. There is plenty of parking but you are likely to compete with locals who come up to this old castle to admire the view. The welcome was a bit underwhelming and it was quite difficult to manhandle our cases up unavoidable stairs to our room. The room was simple, reasonably sized and had a balcony with extensive views. For some reason the pool had closed for the season though the temperature was about 30C and we had to ask for the gate to the gardens to be unlocked. This is all a bit negative, but the hotel is located in a magnificent old castle with fantastic views and you feel privileged to be staying there.
Only problem was finding it so get directions before you go. in the town the signs dont always go all the way and it took us a while to find it. otherwise this was a great location and the pool was great after a hot day in the car! Restaurant was lovely food excellent. and staff friendly and helpful.
Beautiful and well appointed castle or Parador in nature. Plenty to see and find activities around the small city including olive press tour that culminated in tasting olive oil. Warmed to the wines on offer in the restaurant and pool that closes at sunset for a quick activity. Meal was average but plenty of choice and intimate and quiet surroundings. We skipped the buffet breakfast but always attentive and friendly staff on hand. Would visit other Paradors to make a comparison but a good first impression.
Stayed for one night the hotel is stunning the views from the rooms are breathtaking .We opted for inclusive evening meal paid £265 for one night with dinner was expecting something special. The hotel did not disappoint but the dinner was a big let down.when we sat down at the table there were 2 menus .We were informed we were only aloud from the fixed menu. It was awful I had cuttlefish and salmon burger which was like rubber and with it was one tiny new potato that's it .The starter said a cold mixed vegetable with a bacon crisp. It was cold soup with literally a bacon crisp on top. It was priced at £35 PER PERSON. SO if your going enjoy the hotel but don't pay for full board much better to go for the a lacarte menu and pay a little more
Really nice hotel. It's a castle on top of a mountain! Excellent view of the surrounding area. The public common areas of the hotel are impressive. The rooms are a little worn. Looks like the ”handyman” has been of work for a while. The doors all need painting and a good cost of varnish.
We stayed at Parador de Jaen this past August and we were quite pleased with our choice. First the view from the hotel to the city below is absolutely stunning. Our room was sparsely furnished as is common with Parador hotels but was overall comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the nice comfortable balcony. Beyond the actual hotel, you can visit a castle nearby. It was free on the day we were there but is normally a few euros to do so. In all case, it is a quick visit of about 30-45min but it's well worth it for the views. The swimming pool is quite nice as well although the area surrounding it could use more shade and perhaps a bar with some tables. Overall we had a very nice stay in Jaen and I would'nt hesitate to come back.
Lovely place to stay as part of a self drive tour. I would recommend the Spirit of Andalusia II tour to anyone as a way of getting to know Andalusia more. Stunning building and location. My first word when we arrived was 'Wow!'
Parador Jaen was a great choice as a base from which to visit Granada, Cordoba etc on day trips. The views and atmosphere are stunning, particularly in the evening if you walk past the old castle to the Cross at the end of the mountain ridge. We flew our drone above the forests close by for superb views. The swimming pool is in the gardens and is really needed in the Spanish summer - it was 46 C even at 7 pm in July 2017 ! Very good breakfast, a/c was Ok but wifi only near reception. Rooms (in the new but still old-style part) were good. Make sure you get to visit the castle next door and drive down to the main town to visit the cathedral, though dont follow GPS otherwise you will be on narrow 45 degree streets. Quite a unique place to stay.
Really nice place to relax. Beautiful views, great pool! Highly recommended. It is well worth to visit the castle next door as well, this was cool with a history attached to it. We recommend this place for everyone.
