This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel and cannot fault the hotel, from location to the Staff well worth a few days break fab! The rooms are a good size with a choice of pillows, which we find very useful. The breakfast is superb, a lot of choice of fresh fruit, cooked food, cold meats, toasted bread, croissant, Churros etc etc. Evening food was great, the Christmas Eve dinner could not be faulted. We could not finish as there was to much food for us! Good choice of wines as well.
A very nice hotel on a similar theme to Paradore Siguenza. We will probably try another of the castle type hotels. Weather not too good which has had a significant effect on the overall experience but obviously beyond the control of management.
It was fabulous driving into Jaen from Madrid en route to the Granada and the rest of Andalucia. It was dusk, and we could see the lights of the castle high up above the town. Parking is easy right out the front. Choose this hotel to experience staying in a true castle/fort. Fabulous views, I think from all the rooms regardless of room type, and from the terrace off the dining area. Enjoy the lounge area furnished with traditional chairs, armoury etc, perfect for the castle experience. ** And in the morning make sure you do the walk outside the Parador (to your right when exiting the front reception) and enjoy the amazing views down to the town of Jaena and it's cathedral. Walk to the large cross (see pic), and back. About 10-15 min.**
We stayed there for Christmas Eve. Dinner (a fixed menu) was superb, delicious. The rooms are old fashioned but still charming. Breakfast was also very good. The setting of the hotel is the best, the views are outstanding and walking around the hotel is no less than breathtaking. And Jaen is a fantastic city to visit and to eat.
The parador of Jaen, built on the grounds of an ancient castle that is perched on a clifftop, has spectacular views, great ambience and a good restaurant. The common areas and restaurant provide a great castle experience, and it is a good location two hours from the coast and one hour North of Granada.
We enjoyed a very nice stay at the Parador de Jaen over Christmas, rooms were comfortable and the welcome and staff were great. Unfortunately the food on both nights was poor, and let the experience down somewhat. On the upside, the breakfast was terrific. The location is simply stunning.
Great parador but out of the way from the Centre of the city. Would be great if there was a courtesy bus between the Parador and the city Centre as there is a lot to see in Jaen. But parking in the city Centre is terrible, so would not recommend driving into town.
This hotel was a standout highlight of our trip to Spain. It is breathtakingly beautiful, and the rooms are very comfortable, with big bathrooms and incredible balconies allowing remarkable views. The food and drinks were pleasant, served in outstanding surroundings. The only negative was the SMELL, as the staff obviously were dealing with a major blocked sewer and trying to mask that stench with deodorizers. Our passage had places where we held our noses...so this was very noticeable. Overall, though, because of the amazing position up the mountain, the views and the walks nearby,( to the fantastic castle and cross lookout,) I would go again any day! The night was quiet too, something we didn't realize till later, would be very rare in Spain !
Bathroom gasses from septic / sewer odor Dogs from kennel barking incessantly all night long Ragged furnishings in bedroom A very poor experience for us during our 14 day tour of Andalusia Spain. The most pathetic nights sleep in the two week trip - a huge mistake on my left for booking here.
My husband and I were on our way from Madrid to Granada in Spain. We decided to stop along the way, so that we could take our time visiting the Windmills of La Mancha on the way. We booked a night at the Parador in Jaen. A parador is part of a series of hotels and accommodations in usually special places or locations in Spain. This one was in a castle on top perched of a mountain. I have never stayed in a castle before, so this was very different. Check in was ok. There was some miscommunication about a coupon that we had for breakfast, but it was sorted in the end. Our room was large with a four poster bed. The bed was comfortable, and it was very quiet, so we slept well. It had a small castle type window in the bedroom area, but we were also shown that it had big doors leading to a large terrace, where there were lounge chairs and a balcony, which afforded you a terrific view of the surrounding area. We regretted only booking for one day as the view was truly spectacular. The bathroom was also large, but dated. It was clean though. The lounge areas are huge in the Parador, with plenty of seating areas. There is one with knights armour - that was fun. There is also a bar area for drinks, a massive ballroom and the dining room beyond that. Each of these spaces have super high and interesting ceilings. There are a couple outdoor patios too and a pool area, but as we were there in November and it was cold, we did not use these areas. You can explore the castle area beyond the hotel. It is lit at night, but you have to watch your step a bit, as some areas are dark. It is all safe though, and if you walk to the very end, you come to a very large white cross. From there you have a view of the Jaen cathedral and the city. There is a museum in the castle that there is an admission fee for, but we did not have time for this. This was a fun and interesting place to stay. I would recommend more that one night to get the full experience of what it has to offer. Well recommended.
