Parador de Jaén

We have been using this Parador for well over 10 years and are still blown away by its stunning location, it's wonderful to be able to stay in a castle high up in the clouds. Reception staff pleasant and efficient. Added benefit to us for the first time was to use the pool which has a limited season so usually closed when we visit. Our young daughter lived the pool! The rooms themselves, not as nice as the used to be and now require some investment and attention. The bathrooms especially suffer from decorative issues (missing grout, mouldy sealant etc) we also noticed a drain/sewerage smell at times which could be smelt in the corridors also. We also note the reduced toiletries in the bathrooms, the toothbrushes/razor/sewing kit all gone now. A few years ago these used to be lovely and all Paradors 'leaked' a distictive aroma of the cologne in the rooms. This time even the toilet tissue is cheap 'sandpaper' standards seem to be flying fast out the window. Restaurant/bars- I've written a separate review for the restaurant. Our advice is now DONT EVEN BOTHER Grab a 10€ 10 minute cab to the cathedral for a truly wonderful authentic evening of local tapas or restaurants. Taxi rank near the cathedral for return. Parador food/beverage staff are rude with slow service. We have always referred to it as 'Parador attitude' but this stay was the worst ever. Dinner in the restaurant was a disaster and total waste of money all down to appalling staff attitude. The next night the attitude started in the bar beforehand so we 'jumped ship' and headed to town. (Ended up eating under lemon trees behind the cathedral-wonderful & fraction of the price) We will continue to return to the Parador but now refuse to double our bill suffering awfull dining experiences. Sr. Manzano, respectfully, sort your staff!

impressive property amazing views very good staff food very spanish so maybe not for everyone breakfast was very average rooms are a good size however need updating especially the bathrooms wifi is free but very hit and miss in bedrooms would recommend for a very spanish experience

paradores are a great option when in Spain: the sites are usually incredible, prices reasonable and there's often a good restaurant serving local cuisine. We stayed here before ten years ago (before kids) and wanted to show them this remarable place. Arriving is already impressive, with teh parador's imposing silhouette against the mountain, then the inside halls are fantastic, a real medieval castle feel. We stayed in the De Gaulle suite with a fabulous view and imposing four-poster bed. The pool is great, with big soft towels provided, and dinner at the parador restaurant tasty and rapidly served. High recommended!

We have stayed at Parador Jaen before when traveling through Spain and have always enjoyed our stay. We have found the views from our room most outstanding. Your reception staff were most attentive and helpful

This hotel is a renovated old castle overlooking the town of Jaen. It retains the character of a castle, while providing the comfort of a modern hotel. The dining room is full of character. A great base for exploring the local area, but a car is mandatory.

First stay in a Parador and we were pleased, the views are why we booked here and they are spectacular just like the website. I agree with needing umbrellas on the bar Terrace as the sun can be quite hot, temp was in mid June about 100 degrees. Dinner was slow, probably would re think this and eat at the bar as we did for lunch. Room well appointed with a balcony overlooking the valley of Jaen. We did not mind the walk up to the castle, well worth it but if you have limitations this would be a difficult walk even through the Castle. The front desk staff were professional and we would stay here again because of their helpfulness and gracious way. And buy Olive Oil from Jaen, the best if you do the research.

we had large suite with 4poster bed and terrace staff friendly swimming pool difficult to access via lots of steps and no walk in feature imposing hill top castle excellent breakfasts and evening meals

The setting and the dining in this Parador are absolutely the best. I just love all the reception rooms and the main formal dining hall is perhaps one of the most enchanting dining experiences I have ever had - and that is indeed saying something. Our room had a breathtaking view out over the mountains and surrounding valleys. The food is the best of the best Morresco food I have had other than at the Al Hambra Parador - in Granada. In fact Jaen's menu was much more mind bending, and the historic atmosphere adds to the culinary experience. Breakfast is awesome, the best eggs I have ever had. The walk around the citadel is amazing. I would love to spend a long time here, my zephyrion. so so romantic. Impeccable service as in all Paradors.

Stunning location with views of the city and surrounding mountains. We were given a warm welcome and escorted to our room, which was surprisingly small by Parador standards nonetheless it was well appointed. The pool area is excellent and very welcome at the end of a hot day and a long drive. Our only disappointment was the lack of outdoor space to enjoy a drink or dine in the evening. There were only 3 outside tables by the bar which had no parasols or shade. The dining room is spectacular and the food good though we experienced slow service with a wait of an hour between ordering and getting our starters.

Difficult to fault other than lack of wifi in rooms (given the nature of the building this is understandable and the wifi in the public areas was good).Given that this review has to be at least 200 characters that is all I am going to say
