Difficult to fault other than lack of wifi in rooms (given the nature of the building this is understandable and the wifi in the public areas was good).Given that this review has to be at least 200 characters that is all I am going to say

The hotel is magnificent, hence not cheap. I did not mind spending good money as I was tempted by the free breakfast from the Amigos card. That turned to disappointment when the breakfast could not be claimed due to issues with the Amigos card website and a receptionist who was not interested in helping.

The hotel is beautiful, set on top of a hill with views all over Jaen. The bedrooms are a decent size and cool. Some reviewers have said they are dark, but they have the Spanish style shutters with 6 panels so you can open as many as you want to let as much light in as you want., and they all have a little balcony with table and chairs. The food in the restaurant is good as it is in the cafeteria. The wifi didn't work in the bedrooms but ok in the foyer. There is a lovely pool area set in landscape gardens. My issue with this hotel is I don't think they have enough staff. In the restaurant there were 50 diners and 2 waitress who were running around trying to take orders, collect plates and deliver meals. When the waitress came to give us new cutlery for the next course she literally threw my spoon down before she hurried off to her next task. I had to ask 3 times for olive oil. The same in reception, 5 couples waiting and only 1 person on the desk. Nevertheless the young boy on reception and the elder of the two waitresses were very cheerful and helpful. When complaining about the standard of this parador, I think people should remember that it is half the price you would normally expect to pay. If they could get the staffing sorted out I would give it 5 stars.

From the moment we went through the door to the moment we left it was joy to stay at this Paradore, the staff/rooms/food and location could not be better but especially the view from our room was superb, getting to this Paradore can be a pain if you follow you sat nav directions just stick to the main roads.

Absolutely loved staying in this castle. We were touring Andalusia and included Jaen in our route. The staff were really helpful, we arrived earlier than check in but they gave us a room. I would have given the castle an "excellent" if the swimming pool had been open. After a long drive to get there we were so looking forward to a swim. It was 28 degrees.....when we asked why the pool wasn't open they said it wasn't summer yet. Still worth a visit

I agree with almost all previous contributor (Jacky) except our air con worked perfectly. We had previously visited Carmona and Córdoba paradors who had both opened their pools early for the convenience of their guests, so we're very disappointed to find that the pool wasn't open. We didn't eat here but took a taxi (@9€) into Jaen both nights (see my review of Panaceite). Breakfast our first morning was amazing in the variety of fruit, meats, cooked food etc, what a contrast then to our second morning with much reduced choice and the only hot food was one plate of 6 fried eggs brought in by the chef! Pity as the location is excellent and the young man on reception was so helpful

There is no doubt that the location and views from this hotel are stunning however if you take these away you are left with a mediocre hotel. The air conditioning was noisy and ineffective (the day time temperature reached 40 degrees in Jaen during our stay) and the pool was not open. We were advised by a chap working on reception that the pool does not open until June 1st which seems to be a rule that suits the hotel but not the guests. We had arrived from Cordoba where we stayed in another 4 star hotel but you cannot compare the facilities provided. The pool was open there. The bathroom in our room at Jaen Parador requires a complete makeover. To access the shower you need to climb into the bath and hold the shower head handle to prevent the water spraying all over the floor! In addition, the plug for the hairdryer was hanging on a loose flex out of the wall and there was a loose floor tile. Breakfast was adequate for this class of accommodation. We were unable to use the Salon at the bar as this was reserved for a party and we were asked to move from a table in the bar we sat at as it was reserved! I do think more thought needs to be given to the needs of the guests and the Parador management actually make changes rather than repeating that comments are gratefully received and will be considered.

This parador is situated outside the city of Jaen (principal thing to visit : the cathedral) and is built on top of a hill, next to ancient walls in the same medieval style. The situation is really impressive and so are the views from any of the rooms. The rooms themselves are quite big , but ARE rather dark and old fashioned. The bathroom has known better days. The dining room is in the same ancient style and breakfast is ok .

It is wise to check that all the facilities are operational ie; pool garden and terrace. The hotel is seasonal, and seems not to reach its potential until the summer season begins. Service in the bar and restaraunt can be unenthusiastic in the off season.

I have stayed in a number of Paradors in Spain, most are of a very good standard. The parador in jean is no exception, it is perched on a hill overlooking the City of Jaen adjacent to the Castillo de Santa Catalina, the hotel is very much also a castle in it's own right. The reception was warm and welcoming, helpful and polite staff. The guest rooms are along one wing of the building wilh the reception area is in the middle section. Do walk into the terrace behind the reception for some spectacular views. On the other side of the reception area is the lounge and bar with terraces to sit outside also. The restaurant is the final room, it's a huge room with splendid arches and cast iron architectural lamps hang down from the domed ceilings. The guest rooms are of a good size and include TV sets, wi-fi access, en-suite facilities and a mini bar. No in-room coffee/tea facilities however. The breakfast was up to a high standard with a wide selection of fruit fresh orange juice, yoghurt, breads, churros, doughnuts, savoury and sweet spreads, jams, honey, and Spanish delicacies like morcilla, chorizo, midges, jason, cheeses and more. All in all a really great experience-would love to visit again. One tip, if using a Sat-nav, do not take any suggested short cuts through the city of Jaen-just stick to the main roads. The short cuts take you through impossibly narrow streets and will not really save any time but will certainly be very scary unless accustomed to Spanish streets!
