Hotel Club Del Mar3.5 out of 5.0

My father and I stayed at Club Del Mar during a trip to Costa Rica. The hotel is located on the south end of Jaco beach. Downtown Jaco, where all of the nightlife activity is at, is a quick 5 minute drive away. Club Del Mar is a bit run down and is in need of renovation. The rooms were not very clean and we did not feel comfortable. The location on the beach was the hotel’s best feature. Pura Vida!
Due to travel/plane delays we arrive late to the property. We were quickly assigned a room and brought our luggage to the room. The room booked and paid for on Expedia was for a pool view room and we were given a garden view room. We were also told that it had 2 twins for the kids but there was only what appears to be a double or queen. Try getting your teenage boys to share a bed! The staff asked us to check with them next following day and they would check with the owner. The following morning it was like we were being done a favor to get what we actually paid for. We packed up our luggage and moved to the new unit which was very nice and had two separate beds for the kids. When we did check out the hotel had printed paperwork that showed garden view. Still not sure if the hotel was provided with incorrect info or what actually happened. Expedia was very non responsive to multiple requests to check on what happened. Was always promised a response but never came. After many other calls this is the response received today. We have advocated your case with the hotel representative, unfortunately, Hotel Club Del Mar has denied your request for a refund. Was only asking for a credit for the one night for the difference between the garden view and pool view rates. Did not really think I was asking for much. Way to leave a bad taste in the mouth of a customer that frequently visits Costa Rica. Overall the stay was pleasant and in a pretty good location.
The hotel is a nice 3-star hotel. The pool is fun and the beach is just past the property. At low tide, the kids enjoyed the long stretch of damp sand and the easy waves. The property is on the very end of the strip that is Jacó, so you avoid a lot of the downtown craziness (which I will talk about later). The rooms are adequate and clean. The owner, Philip, is attentive and helpful. He noticed our rental car had a light out, so he made sure the staff contacted our rental company to have them come fix it the next morning. He was very friendly and had great stories to tell. The included breakfast was OK. They were reluctant to make any special requests outside of the 4 choices given (like I asked for an extra tortilla or that may daughter wanted an egg instead of fruit with her pancake), but eventually they accommodated us. We never ate other meals there, as it was rather expensive. Overall, we were pleased with the hotel and it's staff. Be warned, Jacó is a surfer party town. By 8, the prostitutes are out on the streets and we saw several people pushing weed, at all hours of the day, although no one approached us because we had kids. The locals seem to look down on the tourists, which was not the impression I got in other parts of Costa Rica. I don't know that I'd go back to this area, but if I did, I'd stay at this hotel again.
Wonderfully situated on the Pacific and gorgeous condos and cabins available. Lush well cared for greenery and landscaping. We rented a full condo as that was all that was left for our one night stay. Price was $200 US a bit pricey which included an average breakfast. It is one of the finer resting spots in Jaco Costs Rica. They also do surfing lessons and bicycle rentals. Well cared for swimming pool in the centre of condos and restaurant.
Good: rented a 1 bedroom, had kitchen, table, living room, and washer/dryer. Awesome views. Confortable bed. Great service. Right on beach. Rented surfboard. So relaxing. Highlight for the kids was the sloth right outside our room! Very close to Playa Hermosa and Quepos. Bad: not overly impressed with the restaurant. Food was just okay. Also not impressed with Jaco. Nothing bad happened, just not that memorable.
We got there late and it was raining, but they still helped us carry our luggage up to the condo. The condo was way bigger than I expected and very clean. The AC was awesome and a really nice break from the humid heat outside. The website says garden view or ocean view, but from what I saw every condo has at least one balcony that you can see the ocean from. Our master bedroom was garden view, but the ocean was in plain sight over the pool/garden and so beautiful. That night we stayed at the hotel to eat and all the staff was awesome. They remembered our names every day and treated us so good. They were also awesome about recommending things to do outside of the hotel. The owner strolled through the hotel and talked with his dinner guests which was really cool. The hotel had surf boards and body boards to rent which we did and used all day. The bar was willing to serve you out by the pool. They set up a massage for my boyfriend and I which was probably the best massage I've ever had. The massage was necessary because their beds were so hard. I had stayed else where in Costa Rica already and their beds were super firm also so I think it may be the norm. The only downside was there was a power outage from 9 am to 3pm that day which meant no wifi or AC. The restaurant still ran, but the guests were not compensated for the inconvenience. The excursions were a little pricey, but they were very helpful with setting them up for you. I didn't really mind the trucks on the highway and didn't think they were than much of a disturbance. It was like a 2 mil colones ($4) into downtown Jaco so that was nice!
Stayed in a 2 bedroom condo and we loved it. The resort is off of the beaten path but has everything you need. Great staff and amenities. The pool and restaurant are awesome. Highly recommend this property.
The staff is extremely friendly, personable, and helpful. Philip the owner is a saint who provided laughter, wisdom, and knowledge. This was my first time and I will continue to come to this property for many years to come. If you a staff who makes you feel comfortable and like you are home then do not hesitate to book.
We stayed here for our first trip to costa. It is a hidden gem! Shhhhh! The people were so friendly, the food was excellent, the room was magnificent! The front desk staff, Rae & Eunice, treated us like family! It was so affordable too. The wait staff were great & the owner is really hands-on! I wish I could live there! Thanks to trip advisor, I'm going back for my anniversary in August!
I loved this place! It was clean and beautiful, inside and out. The location was great! Great staff. Great wildlife. I would recommend this place to anyone! Excellent food, great beach....I want to go back.
