We have decided to spend longer weekend at sea side and as Umag was closest we have ended up in Sol hotel. We were couple paying 165Euro per night (incl breakfast) so for such price I would expect bit different standard. Hence my review is comparing value for money. Our room was located on mezzo floor (between ground and first floor) at the end of the corridor without balcony, facing the hotel entrance. The main problem was that room smelled bad. We tried to resolve with opening of window which did not help much. Sunbeds at pool were for free but all reserved by the time we woke up. Although people reserved sunbeds from early morning, they did not show up. For sunbeds at sea side the hotel required additional money. Brekfast time - hotel is large with many guests which is resulting in several obstacles - coming later there was a problem to find clean table, tables are close to each other, silverware we have collected from other tables. Coffee was not drinkable so the only other option was to order and pay for decent coffee at hotel bar. I did stay in hotels of such category before and my review would be different if the price would be comparable to this standard. However I have recently stayed in hotels in Italy and Spain for similar price but standards much above what I have experienced in Sol hotel. On positive side - staff was very helpful and friendly, sea was clean - so overall if I get a better bargain I would have no problem to visit this hotel for a weekend again.

Thank you to all the staff at Sol Umag Kids' Club, who were very welcoming to our daughter Nell. Activities included crafts, games, mini disco and pool activities. These fun activities really made her holiday!

We stayed at the Sol Umag Residence for 3 nights in July 2017 as a family of 4. The hotel was a great location right on the beach. It was nice surprise to find a sandy beach in Croatia. There were plenty of beach bars and amenities within walking distance. We booked a family room with balcony (B&B) which was actually 2 connecting rooms with separate balconies. The children loved having their own room but ideally one large room with one balcony with enough chairs for us all to sit together would have worked better. The hotel offers free parking and free wifi which worked consistently on all our devices. The card security system used to enter the block and the hotel room is good. The bathroom was small and clean and the balcony is a good size. The beds were comfortable but only a bedside lamp on one side for some reason. Plenty of space for clothes and to store the suitcase. The breakfast buffet was ample with a wide choice covering everything you could wish for. Tip: The flask of filter coffee is far nicer than anything from the coffee machine. The bar staff were attentive and friendly but the Reception staff could have been a bit more friendly and welcoming. The pool is smaller than it looks on the pictures and if you go in the afternoon there is no chance of getting a sunbed but this is the same at many hotels. The shuttle bus to Umag runs about every 20 mins although the hotel fails to mention there is a charge. This is 20 kuna for adults and 10 kuna for children one way which doesn't seem a lot, but 1 return trip each day for a family of 4 for 7 nights would cost you 840 kuna (£100). The hotel was busy during our stay due to a tennis tournament nearby as we asked to move to a higher floor, not ground but could not. There was also a party night on our first night somewhere very close by as we could still here this at 4am! We didn't use the spa facilities or restaurant for an evening meal so cannot comment. The food at the pool bar was good with friendly staff. Overall a pleasant stay.

Wellness spa is clean, relaxing, with range of services. Meals were tasty and full of flavour. Compliments to the chefs. Hot and cold drinks are free with breakfast but you have to pay for them at dinner. Multilingual staff. Predominantly German tourists making this the dominant language after Croatian. Many of the staff spoke English fluently. Location. Flat rock beach, marina and main shopping area within walking distance or option to take tram like train for 20 HRK. Resort has good access for those with limited mobility. Ramps, lifts and walkways are wide with handrails. Room key cards are used to open/close main entrance to residential room complex. Free lockable safe in room. Room 504, double bed, shower no bath, balcony with view of front of resort entrance. Room not deep cleaned on arrival. Floor and tiles of bathroom walls had stray hairs. Specs of blood were on the chair (which I was so disgusted by I removed instantly with anti-bac wipes) and blood on curtain! Main door mechanism looked as though it had been forced open. The bathroom door handle and lock were broken. Spoke to reception about this and was told it would be fixed/cleaned. It wasn’t, until our Rep later raised the issue. We were asked if we wanted to change rooms, which we were prepared to do, only to find it was smaller with less storage areas, no table and poor view (room 525). So we stuck to initial room, spoke to Pamela on reception and she made sure the blood-spattered curtain was replaced and the bathroom handle and lock repaired. Thanks. Also, room had cobwebs on the ceiling, no amenities such as shower cap, iron, kettle or tissues. If you like a bath towel, bring your own, as the towels are small. Thin walls. You can hear guests next door, bit weird to hear someone peeing for Britain. The gym is small and only open from 8am to 8pm. Breakfast ends 10am so you may need to rush. Gym should be open from 7am. Overall, would I return or recommend Sol Umag? No - due to budget style room and negative attitudes of Croatian people to black tourists… although the staff were pleasant enough. I expect a certain standard when quoted as staying in a 4 star resort. I believe the inflated rating is mainly due to the spa and quality of food.

I spent a week here in early June 2017. My first impressions were good, check-in was quick and straightforward, my room was clean and well equipped. Overall I had a very relaxing time, spending most mornings by the sea after breakfast, before heading off to town for browsing, shopping and lunch. The food in the hotel is really very good and the range of food on offer is extremely wide and varied. Even the most fussy of eaters could never be disappointed by the choice; personally I eat anything. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly in all aspects of the hotel; the dining room, the personnel looking after the sun lounges but especially the staff on reception. My room was cleaned daily, my towels and bed linen were also changed regularly, so no complaints there. Ok, so everything positive so far and really there are no negatives. But, if I were to offer advice to the manager it would be this: the hotel was very quiet on my arrival so the hotel was quite empty. However the range of dishes was still incredibly varied. When the hotel got busier, on Friday, I detected that the quality of the food improved; not that it was poor beforehand. Maybe it would be better to restrict the choice somewhat if the hotel is less busy and serve them to the higher standard that I experienced during the latter part of my stay. I must emphasise that I was never disappointed with the food. All in all I had a very positive experience staying at this hotel.

Stayed for three nights and had nothing really to complain about except that despite paying a single supplement I didn't get a room with a balcony. The room was clean and tidy but there were no tea/coffee making facilities and the bathroom featured towels that were a bit thin and past their best and liquid soap dispensers (I hate them). Breakfast and Dinner were both buffet style with a very good selection of choices served at the right temperature and regularly replenished. I enjoyed every meal as far as eating it was concerned. BUT those bloody chairs! Our party was allocated long tables in a part of the restaurant that featured huge heavy wrap around chairs that made it very difficult to get up from the table (a pre-requisite of buffet service) and get back in. Having achieved this your arms were then restricted by the sides of the chair making it difficult to eat or drink. I would love to meet the person who thought that these awful chairs were suitable for restaurant use and have a few gentle words with them. In fairness most of the very large room(s) had sensible chairs. (Sorry did I say I had nothing to complain about ?) The location was superb with the rear terrace of the hotel overlooking the close-by sea and lovely sunset views and with the new resort of Stella Maris (Home of ATP tennis) only a short stroll away. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

I joined my parents for a mini break to Umag for the first time. They had stayed at this hotel about 6-7 times before and were very happy with everything. I cannot agree more: perfect location, super friendly and efficient service (even at dinnner "rush hour" dishes were cleared away quickly and everything at the buffet was always replenished) and a nice and spacious room. I definitely recommend a sea view room with a balcony overlooking the pool and ocean promenade. Beautiful sunsets every night are part of the package. It was my mother's (70th) birthday while we were there and on the day we were pleasantly surprised to find a chilled bottle of (very good) rose champagne with a nice card from the hotel manager in our room. That's what I call good customer service! I would just recommend checking whether there are any festivals going on before booking if you value a good night's sleep - our stay coincided with the 4-day Sea Star festival nearby and were "entertained" by live music from 4 stages until 7 a.m. on one night...The outdoor pool is quite large and there are plenty of sun chairs so there is definitely no need to fight for one with other guests. WiFi is very stable and coverage is great, even on the beach.

Our tennis club organized camp in Umag and we we stayed in Hotel Sol Umag. As we came everything seemed to be new and clean but the room was dirty and room service only changed towels. I understand it was off season but 4* hotel should have high level service. Food was OK, but could be better. Surrounding area was very nice. My expectations were higher.

We spent in Sol Umag Hotel 2 nights in the beginning of April, when the season hasn't really started yet, so there were not that many guests and we felt like we were having a hotel facilities just for ourselves :) The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially a big plus for Giuliano at the reception! There is a nice small indoor pool, which provided us with a great opportunity to relax after an entire day of cycling (by the way, there are a couple of well marked bike paths just next to the hotel). Breakfast and dinner are self-service with a good variety of dishes. Our room was nice, but there were a few things that would really need some maintenance (bathroom door, the main light, window). A quite noticeable minus was a dirtiness of the hotel. The pool, the corridors and also the room would need quite some cleaning. I am not sure, if this has to do something with the period of our stay (low season), but anyway a cleanliness is one of the most basic pillars of a good stay in my opinion, so they should definitely put some more effort into this. All in all, we were very satisfied with our stay there and would be happy to make our vacation there again.

I was staying at Sol Umag with my 2 children. Location is great and....... that is ALL........ everything else was a big disappointment. The worst thing was that the waiter kissed me on lips while passing our drinks. I found it disgusting!
