The hotel is wonderfully situated for a relaxing holiday which was what we wanted. Well appointed room. Some staff I'm particular is like to point out. Vicki on reception amazingly helpful. Antonio in the resturant unfortunately I didn't get the name of the very helpful lady in the resturant went beyond the set times to serve. Finally but no means least senior moment his name escapes me the shuttle driver. Excellent service on the last day we were leaving for naples and he took us right down to where the ferry leaves. Nothing seemed to much to most the staff. The rooms are well appointed. We had a lovely wee patio garden. The food in the hotel in general was good. Breakfast a bit repetavive but a good choice. The facilities were amazing lovely outdoor pool. Sun terrace close to the pool a roof top sun terrace, and of course the spa which was great. I had a lovely massage. So why did I only score the hotel 4 two incidents really. In our bathroom there is a hairdryer attached to the wall however the plug didn't fit the socket which seems ridiculous in any hotel let alone one of this standard. So I told reception apparently it needs an adapter but there is not enough to go round and they couldn't find one. The following day I asked Vicki who got in touch with a handy man and I had an adapter in 5 mins. So the level of service was dependant on which receptionist you went to. The other incident effecting my judgement occurred in the spa. The spa is made atmospheric to allow relaxation. The only problem is the lighting or the lack of it. It has the candles with the small lights in them that looks like flames. There on the steps up to the jacuzzi pool. No light on the step going to the spa. Wearing flip flops at all times maybe common sense but many people walked around without them there were no signs regarding foot wear. I slipped at the spa step couldn't get my footing of the step as it was wet. The cracked my head fell on my hip which later bruised. I must of put my arm out as I fell to stop the impact which is natural and seriously jarred my arm which I couldn't lift my arm up properly for several days. When i left the spa the lady was sitting in the cupboard filing her nails behind the reception. I was shocked by my fall so left rapidly. I returned immediately to tell staff so it didn't happen to anyone else. The lady at the desk said she heard a bang but she didn't come to see what happened. She was very apologetic and got ice for my shoulder. A lovely lady who worked in the office didn't speak English immediately started a search for ibuprofen gel it wasn't found initially but brought to my room quickly. The staff were good about it but the spa staff told the man that was the manager or owner and he was totally uninterested. The floor was dried more regularly after but nothing changed I feel health and safety is not a great priority and felt the hotel of this standard should of made some kind of gesture. I was disappointed buy this. Despite this our overall stay was good.
As everyone else has said the staff here can't help you enough. They would stop whatever they were doing and see to your every need, so if you're reading this Grifo staff then thank you. The couple of things are; although there's not tea and coffee making facilities in Italian rooms it would have been really nice to have an area where guests could make it whenever they wanted. I asked for a hot drink and although the staff were ready and willing to do it straight away it would have been nice to just do it myself as we have been able to do elsewhere in Italy. The other thing, and I suppose I should have said something, is that this is a 4* hotel and there was no mattress protector on the bed which I found pretty horrible really. I know what Alex Polizzi the hotel inspector would have said about that! It's just not acceptable and a minimum requirement for any hotel let alone this hotel which was otherwise clean and nice.
Excellent hotel with incredibly caring and professional staff, the cleanest gardens, rooms, pool and spa facilities you can get. An absolute perfect wind down and relax spot. They provide an excellent shuttle service to enhance your stay and the island has excellent bus services flying around every ten minutes of which there is a stop outside the hotel. High praise all round!!
Grifo Hotel is located on the northern end of the island near the city of Ischia itself. It is remote - up a steep hill near a pine forest - and therefore quiet. There is a regular shuttle service into Ischia itself, which drops you at the bus interchange - and there is plenty to do in and around Ischia. The hotel has excellent facilities, including a pool around which folks gather to sunbathe, rooftop access to sunbeds and the view, a spa and sauna including natural plunge pool. The buffet breakfast offers good variety and quality. The staff are friendly and helpful, and speak good English. We were on our honeymoon and they gave us an upgrade for the first two nights to the honeymoon suite, which had a very comfortable and enormous bed. The other three nights were spent in one of the normal rooms, which was well appointed, although the bed was harder and not as comfy (as you would expect... you want the more expensive rooms to be a step up). We tended to eat big lunches, and not want a three course dinner. The Grifo restaurant were very accommodating and we were able to have just the antipasta, which of itself was great quality, quantity and variety. My wife and I are sensitive to chemical odours, especially from cleaning products and room fragrances. Once mindful of this, the staff were excellent in ensuring overpowering room fresheners were not used.
We have just come back from a very memorable and relaxing stay at the Grifo Hotel Charme and Spa. We were celebrating a birthday and what a wonderful location and experience we have all had here. Without exception, the staff are amazing, polite and friendly yet not intrusive, quite a rare thing it would seem nowadays. Not only did the hotel arrange a bottle of bubbly and a card for the birthday girl secretly placed into our room while we were out, but they also tipped off another restaurant we were dining in on the actual birthday and arranged a cake and candles as a surprise - stunningly thoughtful. The location of the hotel is a tranquil paradise, the food served is mouth watering, delicious and fairly priced - I would urge anyone staying to eat here at least once, the menu is small (which I like, as then you know it is all fresh and local) and changes daily, you will not be disappointed with whatever you order! The spa facilities are clean and well maintained and the staff are knowledgeable, expert and friendly. We all left so relaxed and yet rejuvenated. The shuttle service from the hotel into town is useful and prompt. The Hotel has excellent and free Wi-Fi connection. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious and the bathrooms well appointed. The sea view is breath taking and the individual patios outside your room mean you can have some quiet time just admiring the view, they are also quite the sun trap! I have always enjoyed travelling but never really considered returning to an exact location as there is so much to see and do out there in the wide world, but this hotel has tempted me to return, not just for the location but for the exceptional staff and service.
What an amazing week away. The staff were exceptional. They took care of everything, and all speak English. Location was idyllic and peaceful. Rooms were clean and spacious. We will definitely return!
The Grifo hotel is simply wonderful!! Staff is extremely kind, helpful, specially with family having infants (not always easy to deal with!!) and very friendly (specially the maître Antonio). The food is delicious and the location is awesome!! I would very much advice families with kids to have holiday here and personally we are very much looking forward to come back!!
Very clean hotel, good facilities, and very helpful staff. The rooms are well appointed and facilities in the spa complex downstairs are excellent. It has a shuttle taxi which is useful to take you into and out of Ischia and several areas to relax in the sunshine just in case you want to be away from the poolside.
Grifo Hotel Charme & SPA is the perfect place to relax and enjoy beautiful Ischia. The entire staff is professional and welcoming, seeing to every need with care and attention to detail. Upon arrival guests are greeted with a complimentary cocktail and a staff person reviews information about the hotel and the island with maps and brochures to help plan one's stay on Ischia. Our superior double room with balcony had a spectacular view of the sea, large bathroom, king bed, refrigerator and it was spotlessly clean and fresh. The outdoor pool and spa facilities were great. We treated ourselves to a wonderful massage and facial- a great way to relax after climbing to Mt Epomeo!!! We dined every morning at the complementary breakfast buffet which had everything one would want including scrambled eggs and meats. We also dined every evening in the hotel dining room enjoying the very attentive service of Antonio the maitre d' and his staff. The dinner selections were delicious and wines perfectly chosen. There is nearby parking at no cost for those with a car and for those without, complimentary transportation to and from the ferry. The Grifo is a little jewel on Ischia. I would highly recommend staying there.
