Last evening we arrived at the Novotel Amboise having been travelling since 7.00 in the morning. We arrived at 19.00. We were greeted with the news that restaurant was fully booked. We were also informed that there was no room or bar service. We were very tired and not happy. We sat in the bar. We had to search for service . Eventually we were served with a beer. We saw people leaving the hotel no one going to the restaurant. We asked again if there was any bar or room service. We were then told it was lack of staff problems . Nothing to do with being booked out. We are not happy especially as we are booked to return here in three weeks time for our return journey through France. Our greeting at the hotel reception was poor. Our service at the bar was poor. It looked as if the young staff had been left the responsibility of giving the bad news to all new arrivals. Despite the claim in their mission statement staff did not seem over committed to “finding the best solution for you as quickly as possible”. We were just left feeling very unhappy. We have been coming to this hotel for ten years. It used to be a buzzing place. Had we not booked and payed for a return visit at the end of May we would not choose to stay here again. we are very disappointed. The Highlight of our evening was a trip into Amboise where we found a well run restaurant “Chez Bruno”. Where we were welcomed and made a great fuss of. The meal was delicious. We enjoyed our 3 nights stay at this Novotel during our visit of the Loire Valley castles. The service is attentive and helpful . The wifi is slow. The breakfast and the restaurant are good. I would advise this hotel and location to any one who wants to visit the castles of the Loire Valley.
Excellent place to stay with nature. I will come back to this place for a weekend trip. We found hotel is well situated with different travel attraction. Food was grate. Morning Breakfast was good, but will be better if we have omelet also.
This hotel has a great view of the Loire Balley and even the château of Amboise. They have a pool for warm weather and a great restaurant. The bar is beautiful and a great way to relax after a busy day.
Staff are very obliging, room well appointed, tennis, mini-golf, swimming-pool, nice bar, acceptable restaurant, large parking outside the hotel. Perhaps this hotel hasn't got the charm of chateaux hotels around the area, but it hasn't got the price tag either. It is a very good functional alternative at a reasonable price. We stayed with my wife and family and we really enjoyed it. Especially my son who enjoyed the free PS4 and baby foot at reception!
We decided to get out of the city and take a last minute mini vacation within a vacation to Amboise. This was one four places available for our 3 night venture. We drove down so getting there and into town was not an issue. The location is about a 6 minute drive away from downtown. The hotel itself and rooms are modern and fine. The staff were basically just there to do their job be that not very friendly or accommodating. The resturant for dinner is not worth it unless you want something basic. Go have dinner in town. On the other hand the breakfast was amazing! Not many guests on our stay so we basically had the place to ourselves. Would recommend for a night, two maximum.
We stayed here for two nights as part of a post cruise tour. This hotel caters almost exclusively to such tour groups. The rooms are very basic, but unfortunately are not air conditioned so it is warm and stuffy for sleeping. We attempted to open the window but as there were no screens and many flying insects we were quickly invaded. The buffet breakfast is adequate, but area is too small for the large groups they book. We did not eat in the restaurant as the menu looked unappetizing and not regional or French in any way. This facility is probably best for a one night budget stopover, but unappealing for a vacation or getaway.
Room looking very tired, needs to be modernised. The evening meal is something I will not repeat, will look for another restaurant. Breakfast was a mad house, too many people in too small a space. Food was running out, coffee machines, two, had long queues all the time. Not enjoyable.
Novotel Amboise is a victim of its own sucess. We were told on check in that the restaurant was full, but they could recommend places in town. No thanks. We choose Novotels so we know we can eat when we get there and not do any more driving. It used to be that a resident was guaranteed a table in a hotel, but no more. I had to ask if room service was still operating, thankfully yes. Our meal was delivered even faster than the reasonable 30mins promised on the phone. It was a good meal. Breakfast the next morning showed just how busy the hotel was, but other Novotels can accomodate big groups in seperate areas..why not this one in the middle of chateaux country? The American tour group we saw must have been expected.? Our check out was cheerful, but the lesson here is avoid August/Tourist hot spots and school holidays.
Fantastic location, Lovely facilities, including a pool, tennis courts and mini golf. Surprisingly, even in August, the pool wasn't amazingly busy which was good. Rooms very nice with lovely views. Restaurant has amazing views too and very well done. The service was not so great however, as we were never asked if we wanted more drinks or any condiments and the "well-done" burger was raw in the middle (waitress kept on insisting we wanted medium!). It would also have been nice to know that the meal would be charged straight to the room, so no need to wait to sign anything (we spent a long time trying to get the attention of a waiter to get the bill!). Would definitely go back, but would think twice about using the restaurant again.
