There are no negatives at the Clarion and so many positives it would need a book to describe them all. The reception and staff are wonderful, help you to your room and they deliver a welcome cocktail to your room. The passage ways portend of luxury and indeed the bedroom is luxurious and comfortable. Dining is a wonderful experience with waiters in dinner suits - one for your wine, one for bringing you hors d'ouvres, one for taking your orders and another for bringing your meals to the table. The there is the dessert waiter and after dining drinks - cognac - and coffee waiter. Sounds over the top - don't fight it - lap up the pampering. The food is excellent, the wine is superb (we are in the Loire Valley after all) and it all comes very reasonably priced. Next day visit the gym and lap pool to shed some calories or walk across the bridge over the Loire into the old town, explore all the old lanes and shops, the cathedral and parks, then check out the many cafes and restaurants to choose a lunch venue - they are all good.
Very pleasant weekend, helpful friendly staff, clean. Lovely grounds and indoor pool area,. Felt like a holiday sitting out on the terrace with a drink, not just a night in a hotel. Definitely come back again.
There is little to fault at this hotel: we stayed in the new wing and it was quiet and v well appointed : beds were comfy - lovely bathrooms ....toilet is in a separate room ( some find that a great idea if a couple is in occupation ); the ambience in the rooms is just lovely and hurrah .....zero traffic noise !!! The lobby has a Georgian feel as does the dining area: staff are mature and sensible and helpful - probably well paid and respected in their roles ? The restaurant for evening meals is superb: I would rate this as a great hotel break destination in its own right: The pool is nice but is a 75m trek across the grounds over a gravel path which slightly makes it unappealing - but it is a nice pool when you arrive : The tram is a pleasant 5 min walk away : Breakfast is very nice indeed and good choices :
The quality of service is best demonstrated when there is a problem and this hotel excelled. When we checked in, they didn't have our reservation but they quickly found us a room in the right category without stressing us out. The front desk staff's professionalism and kindness was greatly appreciated. Aside from that, our room was great. Very spacious and comfortable.
If you are looking for a hotel for your visit to the castles of the Loire Loira Chateaux, this is a highly recommended option. It is located in Tours, a city that could be said epicenter of all the chateaux of the Loire, is also the largest city in the area. A city that already deserves a visit of at least one day. Now at Christmas I was really beautiful. The hotel is not in the center but it is true that you can be downtown in a few minutes. It is in a quiet residential area on the north side of the river. The hotel is a small Chateau that has a larger and more modern adjacent building, where most of the rooms are located. Spacious rooms, well decorated, clean with large bathrooms with bath and shower and lots of space. There is a mini kitchen that is very useful for breakfast with children, since the price of breakfast is somewhat high and pay for breakfast 4 as is our case is almost more expensive than the room. There is service of dishes, cutlery, tureens and pans a toaster and microwave. The corridor of the new building and the entrance if it is true that clashes with the rest of the hotel complex, as it is a little cold, the metal panel ceilings but the rest of the hotel rooms and common areas. The people very friendly and nice, the only "complaint" would be that the first day room service left everything very messy. The pajamas that had been left on top of the bed were thrown over the bed once it was made as if they had been thrown from the door. The dishes used the previous day were washed and left on the table, as if they had done everything in a hurry. On the other hand the rest of days everything was left perfectly and everything perfectly collected. If we go back to Tours we will obviously go back to the Clarion.
While the property is absolutely beautiful the location when not driving made it a little bit of a hike from the nearest tram station - all up hill to boot! Is was possible to walk to the city area, but took was about a 45 min. hike to the tourism office. A little bigger room/bathroom which was nice. Very modern decor with a bonus of a 2 burner hot plate and small sink so if you were inclined to make something you had that option.
The hotel is situated inside a huge garden, a bit outside the city centre. That is the main reason I chose it. But I was somewhat disappointed. First of all, the outside building needs some renovation. Rooms are new but I did not find them elegant. Some amenities, such as iron and ironing table, fridge, cuttlery and tea in rooms. Very good breakfast, excellent restaurant. Inside Pool and parking facilities. Reception desk somewhat unhelpful and bureaucratic, not more. All in all, somewhat disappointing.
An very exclusive place !!! A musr. Bedrooms are so cosy you want to spend time there trying the living room and bathtub and everything. Than the restaurant - just amazing from beginning to end - so many different flavours, so good and just extraoradinary. And then ... the whisky and cigar .... everything was just so good, so perfect.
The hotel is set in a gorgeous green backdrop, hidden away from the business of the town. It is a bit of a walk from the attractions of Tours but definitely worth if. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the bedroom and bathroom. There was a huge tub and shower which is very unusual for French hotels. The room had lots of extra amenities including a kitchenette. The hotel grounds were beautiful, with secluded spots to enjoy the ambience. There was an indoor pool and spa. The on site restaurant had a good view and wide range of decently priced wines. The only downside was that breakfast wasn't included in the room rate, and was a little overpriced to pay for separately. However everything else was excellent. Pleasant staff. Good value for money. Beautiful hotel. Highly recommended.
Stayed for 2 nights while touring Loire Valley. First, Clarion in the US is a mid-priced Holiday Inn express, Comfort Inn, etc. type hotel. Clean but inexpensive. Here it is definitiely a four-star hotel. (They even mentioned they know of the disconnect with the US image and may change their affiliation.) Regardless, this was very nice. We stayed in the original building and liked the decor. Rooms are bigger than typical french hotel rooms, very nicely appointed; rooms not all the same. They also have two newer buildings and those rooms are, I'm told, bigger and also nice (but I didn't see them from the inside). Had dinner there twice. Definitely french cooking, very tasty and nicely displayed. Prices were reasonable (I was afraid they'd be much higher). excellent service, not rushed. Breakfast (make sure it is included) was also a nice buffet of what you'd think of a in Europe. (The maple syrup was real, I don't see that very often.) Pretty grounds. The drive in makes you wonder where you are going (twisty roads thru old part of residential area), but don't fret.$175/night with breakfast. Dinners were 90-100 euros (2 people, 2 courses, bottle of wine).
