I stayed at the Mercure Hotel Rennes Cessons on 19 and 20 july 2017. The booking was handled effortlessly through booking.com. The hotel is efficiently situated next to the highway system, making it ideal for a rest stop en route. Road signs on the city streets help in finding its exact location. At the time of my stay, the front was being refurbished hence some construction dirt was unavoidable but handled well. On arrival, I found I had been upgraded from a standard to a superior room, previously occupied by a smoker although I had requested a non-smoking room. I was subsequently passed through four different rooms before finally finding one where the telephone actually worked. The hotel bar offers no French beers. The hotel is linked to a restaurant, but does not allow charging the food bill to the hotel. The room is spacious and the breakfast sumptuous. Staff in daytime is generally friendly and helpful. In the evening hours, the hotel seems to run on one person, Loannah. She served as the receptionist, telephone operator, bar tender, maitre d’O of the restaurant exploring meal possibilities for clients in the bar arranging room service etc., and, in-between, vacuum cleaned common areas and helped motorists on the highway find the place. All with the most beautiful smile and extreme kindness to all clients. While she did more than could be expected to make my stay enjoyable, the hotel in the evening hours is really understaffed.
Although a corporate chain hotel on the ring road sounds uninspiring actually the hotel - for a peaceful, comfortable, value stop over is excellent. We found abundant free parking right outside (1st July), a friendly welcome, good sized clean room with a comfortable bed (I can get back pain after 450 miles of driving through France!). The room had a kettle with tea and coffee but no fridge (days of the in room mini bar and fridge seem gone in Accor Hotels). The restaurant was closed - not great for a Saturday night in July - but to be honest Mercure & Novotel restaurants aren't a patch on what they used to be 20 years ago and nowadays generally serve over priced poor fare - so no loss!. Overall a really good stop over and I think we paid under £60 for a good nights comfortable sleep and it was really quiet considering the close road. Would recommend!
A really nice place to stay but only really as a stopover point on a trip. We were heading back from west Brittany, so this was easy and well located. Nice room, decent breakfast, but I would not recommend as a long term stay as very little within walking distance. Also we got this at a fantastic price in a "private sale". Although near a very busy road the room itself was round the back and very quiet.
Pleasant stay with helpful staff who spoke English special thanks to Melissa who helped locate a garage for a flat tyre. Would stay again excellent value for money with good location on main road. Many Thanks
As opposed to some comments the hotel is easy to find and well signposted. Just because the SatNav leads you to a wrong position - which it certainly does - does not mean it is the hotel's fault. Signs are there more than enough. The hotel itself looks a little poor from the outside. Inside, there is a certain lack of charme - but at the end the place turns out not too bad. It is clean and offers everything you could ask from a hotel at this level. Rooms are spacious enough, the AC is working well (it was 38C outside) and the windows towards the motorway are absolutely soundproof. Breakfast is just about all right, though. Staff are friendly and helpful. The location, right by the motorway is great for travellers that do not necessarily have to go into Rennes town centre.
This hotel is very well located if you need to go to Cesson Sevigné Business area. It is well deserved by the ring and there is a parking (for free) in front of the hotel. The drawback is that the hotel can be a bit noisy. I had a room on the backyard, so it was fine for me. Staff was nice and welcoming us well, but could improve a bit on the english :) The bar is fine even if the waitress is also the receptionist, although there is not much choice in drinks. The room was fine, nothing fancy but good for some on business trip. It was a quiet room which is good if you have difficulties to sleep. The restaurant of the hotel was fine, i remember having a good dinner with a colleague. French food was available on the menu. Good choice of hotel for 2 or 3 nights for business. It is a bit expensive, and not adapted for leisure stay or honey moon. (no sport, no swimming pool, no other restaurant is the area). I rate it as medium as it could improve , but the place is more than ok for business trip.
Chosen for its easy access to the Rennes periforique to avoid losing too much travelling time, this hotel did not disappoint. Got a warm welcome to my ropey french when we checked in and the friendly receptionist even teps out from behind her desk into the comfortable bar and serves beer to thirsty travelers. The rooms were spacious and well appointed for the price. decent sized tv and a nice bathroom. We didnt bother with breakfast because it seemed a bit pricey and we decided to hit the road and stop when we got more hungary. Saying the breakfast was pricy, the room itself was great value and very comfortable.
I come to this hotel regularly (every 6-8 weeks) and my last 3 visits I have had issues (no heating in the room in January), bad smell in the room... But this time makes it probably the last time I come! I am here for 5 nights! Arrival on Sunday evening after 7 hour drive, no room service possible because the restaurant next to the hotel is closed and the hotel doesn't propose anything! Sunday night no hot water, mondaymorn f no hot water.... Complaint made, told Monday eve it is repaired! Tuesday morning NO HOT WATER!!! Room not cancellable! Told by the new manager that if there is no hot water they will call me and book me in another hotel of the group!!! No call today and there is it water... When o asked to be reimbursed I was told it wasn't possible!!! I think this is my last stay!
I have reserved a superior room, but got a standard room. The mistake was discovered only during the checkout, but unfortunately after the payment. Now, I am waiting for the refund since more than 3 weeks. In addition the room was quite cold, the heating by the air conditioner was insufficient, maybe because the surrounding rooms were not heated due to the few guests. Also there was a day, when the cleaning was forgotten. But the personnel is very kind, and the food in the restaurant is excellent, although the selection is limited. The restaurant is closed on Sundays.
Good overnight stop, an hour from S. Malo and two hours from Caen if catching ferry. Not noisy, comfortable. On Sat and Sun no restaurant which can be a problem, longish trek into city or drive, no service on 'buses at weekend. Use junction four on motorway
