The staff sounded very cheerful in excellent English when I was told the restaurant was closed Saturday and Sunday. This is not mentioned anywhere on the website. I had chosen this hotel because of the restaurant. The reception staff found a lovely local restaurant which compensated a little, but we had to drive to it so one of us couldn't have a drink. The breakfast buffet is excellent the best feature of the hotel. The second day we returned in the afternoon to find that our room had not been cleaned or serviced. We are assured that this would be done while we had a drink on the terrace. It didn't happen at all. We were apparently the only guests staying on from the Saturday to the Sunday night and the staff really couldn't be bothered. We won't be going there again.
In general my experience was not bad but also not that great. Luckely the team of staff was very helpfull and friendly and the WIFI was of good quality. Overall the hotel needs an urgent overhaul as the look and feel of the hotel is very "eighties". The bathroom was extremely small (smaller then 2m²) - I could bearly fit the shower. Restaurant - good quality but not a "nice" place to sit. Bar area (described online as "lounge area") was non existing. Beds were of ok quality. Summary for me was - ok to sleep for one night but that's it
On arrival hotel reception stuff said that they have no reservation under our names, although fully PREPAID reservation was made 5 months before check in date through orbitz.com. and confirmation email was received with hotel confirmation number. After half an hour of search for our reservation in their system, we didn't give up and called Orbitz customer care. The same moment manager came and said that reservation was found in spam folder, but the hotel was full and they had to find us another hotel. Could you believe it ???!!!!! The 5 months old email from Orbitz went to spam and was not deleted???!!! Since Brithotel chain has about 100 hotels in France we were sent to another hotel in this chain. Another 25 minutes of driving, after full day of driving and since it was our last evening in France, instead of relaxing after long day, we had to repack our luggage before flight home..Despite that the price for the another hotel that we were given was lower then the price of the hotel we booked and the location of another hotel was outside of the town they refused to give us any compensation, although we explicitly asked for it and Orbitz customer care tried to convince them to do so. It was very transparent to us that the hotel was simply overbooked ( that days Rennes had some festival), they abused our prepaid reservation and lied to us about missing reservation. Rude receptionist and hotel manager with an attitude "Leave us alone. We don't have your reservation. It is not our problem, find another hotel". We will never stay in this chain again. If you want that your reservation will be honored and to have a stress free stay - stay in another hotel
We stayed at this hotel overnight on our way to north Brittany and in comparison with similar establishments in other groups, was generally disappointed. The room was clean but the shower was poor for the larger (tall) customer as it was very small and consequently difficult to manage. We were amazed to be informed at there was no restaurant available for the whole of August of which we had no prior warning and which was inconvenient as we were intent on having our evening meal there. The good points were that the staff were charming and very helpful and the cost was a very attractive special deal of E40.
This is a good hotel as a base for tourists, or overnight stayers. However how any hotel can gain 3 stars, when the otherwise excellent restaurant does not open Friday to Sunday, nor for most of August, is beyond me. Also the rooms are small, but comfortable, but the bathrooms minuscule- and I don't fancy the chances of anyone over 14 stone fitting the toilet! Also no tea/coffee making in the room, just a bottle of water when the chambermaid remembers.
Comfortable, fresh and clean, and an excellent breakfast. Arrived after 9pm - so the Restaurant was closed - but we guessed that would be the case - but the bar was open, and after a few beers - who needs food anyway, and the extensive breakfast next morning ensured we caught up! For an en-route stop whilst doing a mad journey from Calais to the far western end of Brittany it was just the job.
Hotel was clean, comfortable and well-equipped at the price. A good 30 minute walk from Rennes city centre it is nevertheless well-served with public transport. Staff were polite, welcoming and warm. Would certainly consider staying here again, particularly if travelling on a budget. Incidentally, if you don't want to catch the bus the walk itself is really rather pleasant and takes you through the real suburban Rennes away from the half-timbered tourist traps.
Modern hotel on a busy corner. Good room with comfortable beds, wi-fi etc all worked well. Helpful friendly staff with nice looking in-house restaurant, unfortunately as it was a Sunday night, it was closed. We found a take-away pizza shop across the road which had to do. Plenty of off road parking.
