This hotel has a very good location in Saint-Malo. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was pretty good except we wished we had eggs - many hotels offer eggs that you can hard or soft boil. The rooms were very small and cramped. The mattreses were poor quality. The linens were average. The bathroom was a bathroom- there was plenty of hot water and the shower pressure was good. One big problem is the noise from the lobby that seems to travel throughout.
It started with parking. We asked to book a parking place for us and received an email confirmation but when we arrived it appeared that parking was not reserved and there were no available places. When we finally checked in we discovered that there were no toiletries in the room. And even a plastic cup in the bathroom was broken and leaking. Honestly, one has to make an effort to be that bad.
I was put in the annexe of the hotel, no lift and had to go up three flights of stairs which were very poorly lit. There was no air conditioning and having to leave the window open proved very noisy so I was unable to sleep. The bathroom was disgusting with mould on the walls and not clean, no toiletries. Also no hairdryer, had to phone down for one. Breakfast room, had to wait for a table to be cleared and I noticed one guest had her dog under the table!
The reception staff are very welcoming, the reception area bright and modern. The hotel has rooms on both sides of the road and a useful garage where we are able to secure our bikes. The location is great for being inside the walls of the old city and only a few steps away from the main square with the range of artists and the main concentration of restaurants. The downside of the location is the noise during the night, from people not respecting the late hour and the early morning activities of cleaners/hotel deliveries/taxi services -resolved with a good set of ear plugs but important to be aware of. The standard of the rooms do vary although I must stay I have never had any cause to complain about the cleanliness of the room and the hard working cleaners. This occasion we had a great room which had obviously been more recently redecorated than some others, and everything was in a good state of repair. The one we stayed 2 days earlier in our short break had a broken shower head holder so you could only use it hand held. The door handle of the en-suite was hanging off the door of the room I stayed in last month and there was no way to have a shower without the ensuite floor walls and toilet becoming sopping wet. All that aside, it's a cheap and cheerful hotel right in the heart of the medieval city and the staff are so helpful. The warm welcome, the location and use of the garage for our bikes are why we keep coming back for overnight stays although I would not want to extend my stay beyond a couple of days.
This hotel is located in an amazing city. I love St. Malo and this hotel is inside the city wall. However, the room was one of the worst hotel rooms I have stayed in. It was dirty and small. I took a shower as fast as I could just to get out of there! It had an odd smell and the air conditioner did not work. The hotel is split into two different buildings on either side of the street. I was in the side opposite the reception desk. The other side seemed to be a little better. If you are not planning on being in your room (which you should not), this hotel may work. I would look around to try and find something a little nicer if the price is right. Even with a less than average hotel, my stay in St. Malo was wonderful.
The only thing this hotel has going for it is its location. It is dated and really need some work, not to mention a better cleaning staff. The breakfast was good, however and we were able to take some fruit with us for a mid-morning snack on our drive to Mont. St. Michel. It is in a perfect location within the old city and I am glad we stayed here because of that. We did book a family room and they didn't have any available, so we were split up into 2 rooms on 2 separate floors.. It was okay for us, as we were all adults.
basic room, no frills, very dated, sloping floor, small lift, close to all amenities, not for a romantic weekend, should be a lot better considering the amount of business it gets through its doors - luckily St Malo is great !
The hotel has two buildings, the main hotel and the annex directly across the street. We were given a room in the annex, which has no lift, so it would be okay if you have no heavy luggage. The room is good size on second floor and window opens to the street. Street is quiet during the day but quite noisy at night. The location of the hotel is great, inside the wall (intra-muros), so it is a short walk to anywhere. The hotel appeared to have some upgrades as the door handles and the lock look new, but the door frame close to the lock is damaged but not repaired. The bathroom is in horrible shape with mold on the ceiling and all the way to the top of the door. Mold is a health hazard and this should be repaired without delay. Front desk was helpful and ordered taxi for us without any problem.
I stayed here overnight in May 2016 and was not happy with the standard of accomadation. Stayed overnight May this year and was pleasantly surprised by my room and the Breakfast on offer.Looks like there has been some renovations.
OK, it was cheap and we'd only booked for one night, thankfully. Double room you couldn't swing a cat in, I couldn't get out of bed on my side, had to shimmy to the bottom of the bed to get out as too close to the wall to stand up. If you're over 5'7" you can't sit on the loo facing forward as your knees are squashed against the wall. The shower is the other side of the loo so you have climb over it. Dubious cleanliness. Position however, great, if noisy. However one can expect noise in a city centre and perhaps I just should have taken earplugs. We will definarely not stay there again and will not recommend it to others
