We travelled south to the Wollongong Northbeach Novotel after a very pleasant stay at the Manly Novotel; however, the Wollongong Novotel provided a disappointing experience and it is extremely unlikely that we will return to this establishment. We arrived early at the Wollongong Novotel and unfortunately our room was not ready. The friendly assistant at reception advised me that she would contact me on my mobile phone when our room was made up as we were anxious to have access to the room. She even checked that they had the correct mobile phone number on record. We filled in time for three and a half hours before I gave up waiting for the call from the hotel and travelled back only to be advised that our room was ready some time ago. I was further advised that they only contact hotel guests if the room is ready before the normal check in time of 2:00 pm. Not the message that the original receptionist told me. I had booked a Panoramic Suite and it was well appointed, modern and roomy. The suite was about the only positive takeaway for our short stay at the Wollongong Novotel. On the first night of our stay we ran out of milk so I called reception to see if I could go down and pick up some more milk for a coffee. Reception advised that it was not necessary for me to come down and that they would send up some fresh milk. After waiting for about an hour I called reception again to find out when the milk would be arriving and they apologized for the delay and said that the milk would arrive shortly. The milk finally arrived about a half an hour later. On the second night of our stay we were unable to get to sleep due to the noise emanating from a wedding at the Hotel and then later from the noise from the Lobby Bar. At about 9:45 pm I called reception to complain about the noise and was advised that the wedding music should finish at 10:00 pm and the wedding guests would be departing at 10:30. Whilst the music did finish a bit after 10:00 the noise from the guests went on well after 10:30pm. When the noise from the wedding finally abated it was replaced with the music from the Lobby Bar. At about 11:00 pm I had finally had enough of the noise generating from within the Hotel (my wife has a chronic illness and our stays away are to allow her some quality rest and my 11 year old son was also unable to sleep due to the noise) significantly impacting upon our stay, and went down to complain in person to reception. I also requested that the Hotel manager contact me the following day. We checked out the following day and again at this time I requested that the Hotel Manager contact me as I wished to discuss our horrendous stay at the Wollongong Northbeach Novotel. One week has now gone by and I have still have had no communication from the Manager of the Wollongong Northbeach Novotel. I can only assume that the Manager does not want to discuss our ill-fated stay at that establishment or both requests for the manager to contact me were not passed on (as well as the completed in-room survey card apparently being ignored). This does not portray a very professional attitude! The strange thing is that upon our return home I received an email from the Manly Novotel seeking comments about or stay at that establishment but no such similar communication was received from the Wollongong Northbeach Novotel. We stayed at the Wollongong Northbeach Novotel between Christmas and New Year happily paid elevated room rates given the holiday period. Unfortunately the extremely disappointing experience provided by the Wollongong Northbeach Novotel has left a very sour taste in my mouth. As an Accor Platinum Member and seasoned guest at many hotels I fell well and truly ripped off and we definitely did not receive value for money in this specific instance.

My friend and I stayed here overnight last night and will NEVER stay again!!!! After we checked in and went Into our room we noticed an immediate smell that was both offensive and dirty!!! It smelt like "wet dog" !!! Even though it was a hot day we had to open the sliding doors to get fresh air so one of us didn't vomit from the smell!!! Long story short, we discovered the smell was from damp curtains that were put up and had obviously not dried completely!!! The assistant manager was notified and then came to the room and agreed this was unacceptable. Then to top it all off there was also stains on my bed sheets as well as food and food wrappers behind the drawers where the power point was from previous guests......Yuck!!!!!! Breakfast was a nightmare too with a min 30 minute wait and the food was not worth the wait at all....Very poor!!! The hotel itself has lovely renovations but the lobby area is far too busy and loud. The shape of the balconies from the rooms allows no privacy at all. Overall we are very disappointed with this visit especially as it is a Novotel and should uphold a certain standard and Novotel North beach certainly doesn't do that!! It's more like a 2 Star property...They must have painted the other stars on themselves!!!!

Loved our stay. We have stayed many times. So close to beach and resturants. Awesome views. Very helpful staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. Great restaurant within the hotel. We stayed for the Christmas Lunch on the deck.

The day outside felt like a blacksmith's office as my tribe seeked refuge from the oppressive heat. The Novetel at Wollongong's north beach rose on the horizon like an oasis tempting us with food and supplies and a reprieve from the afternoon's sun. As we stepped inside the fresh cool air tickled our senses and the smiles from the staff warmed our hearts. We made our way to the Lobby Bar where we swiftly ordered a couple of thirst quenching Corona Cervesas and some mocktails for the younger members of our tribe. As we found our seats our ears were spoilt by the sounds of the extremely talented piano singer. We ordered two hot platters from the kitchen which can only be explained as an explosion of flavours and a joyride for the tastebuds. Yes a little pricey but that was quickly forgotten as the quantity and quality of the food took us to a place of gastronomic paradise. Will we back? Put a big fat tick in the affirmative column.

Newly renovated is the only nice thing to say. Staff untrained and unhelpful. Bar in middle of hotel had a band playing so bad a member of our group asked them to stop! All staff could say was we are so busy 5 functions on tonight! Only one lift working and it broke down. We were left for an hour before being rescued by the fire brigade and the Duty Manager never apologised called the police not an ambulance and said it was the guests fault! This hotel was like a faulty tower. Maybe can't cope with Christmas crowds but really, sooooo! bad. Front bar noisy and overcrowded, breakfast barely ok, I don't think other reviewers travel and use high class hotels as this place is certainly not worth a visit

Great view, great location and great service. The hotel is closed to city and local north beach. If the pool can be indoor and heated in case of bad weather, it would be perfect if pool-sided service (serve food and drink) is provided.

great location near beach, room was average & pricey due to XMAS period. The buffet a little expensive, but kids under 12 eat free.(This worked well for us especially if you have little hungry mouths.) North Wollongong beach was relatively calm, which was good for our children. The major grip was the hotel pool which closed for maintenance. (the same happen last time we used the hotel) My kids also love swimming in pools. The excuse from Management was poor, the real cause was the poo was not well maintained for the peak holiday season. Wollongong restaurants are approx. 15-20 minutes walk including a movie theatre.

Spent 3 nights with family at this Novotel & there is little to complain about & lots to compliment. Friendly, helpful reception staff, spacious, comfortable rooms & a reasonable albeit busy breakfast buffet. The pool was off limits for a couple of days due to cleaning issues but that is a minor quibble! Overall a pleasant experience & with a lovely beach across the road & a free shuttle bus taking you to some competent restaurants in town this is an excellent base for a short summer holiday!

We recently stayed here for 2 nights (minimum booking allowed) for a friends wedding. We had a lovely corner room with ocean views. Rooms were spacious and clean the staff were lovely. When we originally booked the room it was $1,250 for the two nights, direct with the hotel when checking 2 days prior to our arrival it was $730 for the two nights online. I called the hotel and asked them to match the price as they had online the lady said to cancel my booking and just do it online. So I did and did it through Expedia (the staff could have saved the hotel third party booking fees if they could have been bothered just changing it over the phone). Pretty unhelpful.

The hotel has a great location - very close to beach. Service was good, not excellent though. We had to call reception multiple times to replace tv remote batteries. Breakfast buffet was good and they do cater to special meal requests. We stayed for one night only and overall stay was good and very satisfactory.
