On the whole it was good, however the staff need to take account the ages of the guests in June rather than treating them as all in their 20s and wanting loud current music being played round the pool areas and in the evening. Rooms were not cleaned to a decent standard, but the location and food quality could not be faltered. The only other gripe was the coach from Faro airport on arrival to take us to the resort via Tui. We were delayed by an hour and a half before leaving as it was totally disorganised, so instead of arriving at the resort within an hour and a half from landing, it was nearly three hours instead. Not impressed.

Lovely hotel in beautiful gardens, we had a pool view room which was lovely very clean with excellent shower room ( could do with a few clothes hooks in shower room). Good food with plenty of choice both meats and fish, staff friendly and helpful.Due to end of season not much outside the hotel shops closed down but lovely walks along the prom, beach great watched fishermen each day. Local bus into Ayamonte easy access.Animation staff great made a fantastic display for halloween, all the staff dressed up dining staff made special cakes lovely touch. Would return to hotel.

Lovely modern grand hotel. Gardens elegantley decorated with fountains and water features. Large swimming pool with child safe area, decked out with patio furniture. The beach is 100 meters away via a quite road and hotel gated access. Shops and restaurants all nearby. Staff uniformly friendly and helpful. special mention to Lago who helped me with a puncture, and reception staff Angela Medina. Hotel run "animation team" through out the day, and entertainment in evenings. To summarize. Good quality 4 star hotel.

We visited in the 3rd week in October and had a relaxing time. Good food Good drink, excellent staff and well maintained throughout. We asked for a high floored room and we were not dissapointed. The hotel was busy - surprisingly due to the time of year , with all Nationalities. Downside was the immaculately clean pool was very cold but then we were nearly in November. Entertainment was Ok and there if you wanted it. I would imagine during the summer the hotel would be very busy. Outside the hotel the beach was beautiful with over 6km of sand and well kept by the local council with hardly any pollution.. The downside the majority of small bars and shops were closed for the end of the season, which did not bother us as we were all inclusive. BUT the hotel is situated and surrounded by what can be only be described as purpose built Condominiums for the Spanish and other nationalities plus a number of hotels. The whole area has a "Purpose "built village feel but not a community (as no one was around ) There is a small harbor some 3km walk away. But again this area was very quiet. I assume in the summer the whole area would be packed. A local bus to the main village and a ferry across the river to Portugal should be on your agenda , as well as a trip to Seville ( well worth traveling 2 1/2 hours). Overall Hotel Very good and well worth the money. Location great with a fantastic beach ( the hotel is 20 metres away). But the actual area very little to see and do within walking distance .

I had a wonderful 3 night stay with my 2 teenage daughters. Relaxing in a lovely environment where staff were so helpful. Not a lot to do outside of the hotel, but that suited us fine, the beach was super and there are some nice snack bars on it. Room quite small for the 3 of us, but was immaculately clean and well equipped. food was very good.

As usual our experience did not disappoint. Plenty of space both outside and inside including restaurant and bar. We noticed that quite a bit of refurbishment has been carried out.which made the areas even more attractive. The beach is beautiful and good for long walks. It is also so close to the hotel. A very peaceful holiday experience.

We stayed at the Barcelo in Isla Canela during October 2017. On arrival first impressions were of a beautiful hotel, clean and welcoming. It actually looks like it does on the holiday photo’s when booking! Great location, right near the beach. Rooms are very clean and tidy and beds are really comfortable. Maid service is fantastic. Entertainment staff were great as well as the reception staff. Only problem we experienced was that the female waitressing staff in the buffet restaurant were rude and unwelcoming let alone the fact that they never smiled! Not much choice of vegetarian options but overall the quality and choice of foods were of a really good standard, just a shame that the waitressing staff had no personalities at all and made us feel as though we were something they had trodden in! This is a real shame as this hotel is beautiful and the waitressing staff let it down!

A very nice hotel with very pleasant staff good facilities and very well located for the beach and transport links to nearby towns and access to Portugal would recommend to friends only downside wa having to pay for use of safe

Very last minute half board booking towards end of August for 7 nights. Deluxe room was very modern, comfortable bed, great shower, plenty of storage. Felt we'd been allocated the best room with large fully furnished sunny balcony, sea view, and not overlooked - a real treat! A couple of little extras for the room would have lifted the experience to excellent - a welcoming bottle of water in the mini fridge, and perhaps a flower planter on the balcony, in keeping with the hotel grounds and flowers which were pretty and well-kept. Also there were a couple of broken tiles needing fixing and some stains on the outdoor furnishings - nothing major, but just the difference between very good and excellent for me. Important for me is to go out running most mornings. No problem - safe 5k promenade to harbour/marina, divided between cyclists and runners/walkers, plus the huge clean beach. Was very happy with design and position of our hotel having run past others! Also very important - food! Enjoyed the breakfast in the hotel, plenty of choice and especially liked the freshly made fruit juice blends. Evening meals were busy and at times a bit noisy, but only as might be expected in a family hotel with buffet service. Food was replenished often, fish particularly was well-cooked and really delicious, liked the themes offered - the Moroccan evening was a favourite. Desserts well presented and loved that there was a chocolate fountain one night. Good selection of differently priced wines and bottle could be put aside for next night. Didn't see much of evening entertainment as we liked to go for a walk on promenade after a late dinner or sit on balcony. Pool was clean and temperature okay. Did the aqua gym every day - brilliant! fun and the sessions varied, very popular. Music was turned down afterwards, so nice to relax on sunbeds which were generally available throughout the day - no getting up early to reserve beds. Staff in hotel all smart, greeted us warmly, and it felt they had pride in their work. Went by bus to Ayamonte and then ferry across to Portugal one day - easy to do. Mostly just relaxed round pool after aqua gym, then walked along and sat on beach on towel in afternoon. A few jellyfish were washed up on the beach most days and sea was shallow a long way out, but lovely paddling. Snacks/fruit/water etc got at local supermarket for between breakfast and dinner. Bought huge container of water then decanted some into a couple of smaller bottles to go in mini fridge, as I needed plenty to drink with running. Relaxing happy days - would definitely return to this hotel if visiting Isla Canela again.

Visited this hotel as a couple on a AI basis for one week. The hotel was okay but not like other 4 star hotels we have stayed in. We did not like the fact that we had to pay for most of the drinks on the menu and went to the bar across the road to spend our money. Our main gripe was on our last day and the reason why we will not return to this or any other hotel associated with this chain is that we arrived at 1.30am on Tuesday morning. On our last day - the following Monday - we were due to leave the hotel for our return flight at 8.00pm. Upon checking out at 11.45am that morning we had our AI bands cut off by the male behind reception. I questioned why he was taking off our bands as we were not due to leave the hotel until 8.00pm. We were told "no room, no facilities - your holiday is over". We were dumfounded. Another couple staying AI, who had arrived with us were leaving with us, were told by another member of the reception staff that they had use of the hotel facilities for the rest of the day and could keep their AI bands until they left. We spoke with the rep Dion, who I have to say was brilliant all week, she did solve the issue and we were given a business card with AI written on so that we could use the restaurant for lunch and be able to have a drink. To be honest we felt like second rate citizens after this I personally felt sick and could not eat. We left the hotel and went elsewhere for a coffee. We were only able to do this as we challenged his decision after our first request for a pass key to get back into the hotel was refused. My husband had had a previous discussion with other members of the reception staff who had told him that we would be supplied with a card should we wish to leave the hotel during what was left of our stay. We have travelled extensively for many years and have never been treated like this before, we couldn't wait to leave.
