I had a fantastic short break here with my dog in Dec 2024. Loved the characterful accommodation, it was spotlessly clean, comfortable and a very well equipped kitchen. A nice welcoming touch was a fresh bag of ground coffee for the cafetière with biscuits and some milk already in the fridge. Fantastic views from upstairs bedrooms. It was a good location to take my dog, lovely walks and close to the Cley shops. It was a perfect place to spend a calming few days before Christmas and I would definitely book again. The only small niggle I had (but this could be personal preference), I stayed in the double bedroom and the mattress was a bit on the soft side and the pillows maybe could be replaced. As I say, a small niggle which doesn't detract from the lovely stay there I had.

Nowhere is ever worth five stars, one of our particular foibles.

Nowhere is ever worth five stars, one of our particular foibles. That said, a tremendous property, lots of space, very comfortable, well-equipped etc. With the dark skies to be found at night and the village without streetlights with three good pub restaurants within a short walk it’s the sort of place we will be happy to go back to.4 minor quibbles: –Not enough standard/table lamps in the sitting room, some softer lights in the kitchen would be a good idea.Television too complicated, missing a simple link to Freeview An induction hob is a great idea if you know how it works from the outset. Aluminium saucepans do not work…The house book needs updating, not enough information about the immediate locale, no simple street map showing the footpaths linking the lane through to the main road (and so avoiding a lengthy walk via Town Yard to the George and Dragon), not enough about the history of the house and/or the village and the port which it used to be.

Lovely spacious house within easy walking distance of the beach and coastal path. We were lucky enough to see seals on the beach. Cley is a gorgeous village and a wonderful location for exploring beautiful North Norfolk. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

The Old Butler's House was everything we could wish for! Our son and his partner and their three small children had a great space, and the living room was a haven for all of us. The garden was safe for our small dog and the smallest grandchild, and the washing machine and tumble dryer was perfect for all the children's clothes. High ceilings, stone flagged hallway: rather like a small National Trust venue.

High ceilings, stone flagged hallway: rather like a small National Trust venue. Could conceivably be chilly in winter, but the graceful sash windows fit well and for an extra charge the boiler keeps the place surprisingly cosy, especially with the free logs on the fire. Right in the quiet centre of Cley, with footpaths directly to the coast and the windmill. We were a group of six, including a toddler who loved exploring (there are stair gates for the impressive central staircase, cots and a high chair) and the house comfortably swallowed us all. A very relaxing living room and a well fitted kitchen. A bit short on bathrooms but this wasn't a big issue. Recommended.

Both myself and partner felt that this property wasn't one that 'put its arms around you and welcomed you in'. Although definitely a unique and characterful property, it was let down by such details as old / mismatched bedroom furniture / poor bedside lighting / no full length mirror for the Ladies. Both the bathroom and kitchen were obviously recently refurbished, but once again, the kitchen was let down by lack of certain utensils / cookware, such as a frying pan without a lid, no pasta gauge / kitchen scales, small details but would have been useful. So as an overall summary, this rental property is both unique / characterful, but my partner and I would both agree that we wouldn't rush to re-book it, until its received some additional TLC.

Great Holiday

The house was very comfortable and extremely well fitted out. Possible the beds are coming to the end of their lives as we felt they were a bit soft. A washing machine would have been useful for the children's clothes but it wasn't a problem. The location is good and the garden was safe and good for ball games and sitting in. Alltogether a really good holiday

We loved the house and found it most comfortable and well equipped. The location is perfect for walking and birdwatching, and also for exploring the North Norfolk coast with all that has to offer. The proximity to Blakeney and Holt is another advantage.
