Visiting Pezulu for the first time made me realized that you can stay amongst the wild animals and see and feel the bush. This unique lodge is not your normal run of the mill. Every unit has its own charm, its own layout. Your inner child will comenout with wooden bridges, walkways and showers in the outdoors. A pool to provide respite during the warm days. A bar where Ronnie will cater to your dried whistle and the basic wholesome meals prepared. The staff cannot do enough to help you, show you around and make you feel at home. Do not come to do work. Relax, sit back, but be careful of the monkeys. They do become morning guests.
The pictures on the web look great. Unfortunately our lodge was not as great as on the pictures and looked more like a standard lodge on poles. The staff was not really friendly and, despite the place being quite small, the owners did not appear to be interested in communicating with the clients and did not bother to introduce themselves. The food in general was OK (nothing more), but the hamburger we had for lunch was that terrible that we did not even finish half of it. Only the temp Mike and Ronnie were very friendly.
We stayed at Pezulu on April 2019 for two nights. We knew that each room has different peculiarity: some rooms look like a really tree house /thatched huts with beautiful branches inside, others look like a cottage, without any special particulars “house tree” details. Anyway, we chose a specific room (Falsethorn) few weeks in advance. There were lots of emails with the Lodge who was offering both Falsethorn and another room (Knobthorn). This one (Knobthorn) looks like a modern cottage and we strongly ask to book us in Falsethorn. They confirmed Falsethorn for us (a delicious 2 double rooms, with nice patio and bathroom outside). Although all was agreed in advance, when we were at Pezulu they changed their mind and gave us Knobthorn (a 4 bed room with inside bathroom), saying that it was better for our kids!! We were very disappointed. Pezulu is a nice place but it makes sense if you can stay in a real tree house, not in a cottage between the trees! If we had known to sleep in Knobthorn I would not have chosen this lodge. The price is justified only for the particularity of the rooms; unfortunately Knobthorn is not one of them. The little discount made after our claim doesn’t replace the inconvenience. Credit to the young ranger (Mike) that drove us for a night bush game drive. He was really nice and the kids loved him.
There are many beautiful places in the bush...but this tree house lodge is wonderful. We grew up making little treehouses in trees..here is the real deal: bathtubs, fabulous deco with great creativity. Being up above the ground gives superb views and the impression one is safe from hyenas and creepy crawlies. the restaurant, bar etc all a fully delightful experience.
Very nice tree house lodge but has to be maintained to keep all the dream of the place. For instance fixing the tap and the mixer for having a shower could be nice. But the team came very quickly to arrange it. The electricity seems to be an issue as wifi, therefore why not having some big candles to offer a certain light on the beginning of the night before having electricity running?
Our stay at pezulu tree house was really great! The view from the tree house "mountain view" was awesome! Especially the sunset view. The people were very friendly and the dinner was special. We would recommend a stay in pezulu to everybody!
We LOVED our stay in the Bushwillow Lodge. The Pezulu staff were so welcoming from the start. As soon as we pulled up, we felt welcomed and at home. Everyone was so nice! The food was delicious and felt so personalized. Our treehouse was beautiful! It was such an incredible experience, living in a tree! We had an ostrich hanging out right in front of our treehouse, a herd of zebras grazing in the morning, and a few jackals searching for breakfast. We even saw giraffes sleeping on our night drive, which is a pretty rare sight! Pezulu offers many activities and many ideas of activities in other places. Highly recommend a stop! We drove to Pezulu after 5 days in Kruger National Park and it was the perfect compliment to our safari.
It was our second time visiting wonderful Pezulu, this time with friends. Watching monkeys, impala's and zebra's passing our treehouse in the morning, while waking up on the balcony with a hot cup of tea and bird calls. It could've also been giraffes and with a little luck you might see a leopard! The treehouse was really nice and the outdoor shower is an experience to never forget! Do it, even when it's cold outside! The staff was friendly and welcoming, helping us with choosing things to do, restaurants etc. When I arrived I was sick, the next day everybody kindly informed how I was doing. So nice! The guide Stephan was knowledgeable and just a really nice guy. What we felt could be improved? The food could be a little bit better, especially the breakfast-to-go (specifically the chocolate yoghurt and cheddar-sandwiches). Also the pillows.
Our family of 5 stayed there for 2 nights over Christmas. We loved the treehouse we were in and found the staff very friendly. This being said, we would probably not stay there during the african summer again as the room was unbearably hot Except late at night. There were no air conditioners and the fans just didnt cool enough. Maybe add window screens so the window can be opened without bugs coming in?
Just loved to stay at Pezulu onces more. It's such a lovely place with great and helpful people. It's an excellent place for organized and self activities. We enjoyed delicious Food, the tree house, the nature and de refreshing pool with some Savanna. I would always stay there again.
