Somerset on Salamanca Hobart4.0 out of 5.0

I was at the Salamanca address on their website to check in. This address has the wrong street address for reception. I tried to call reception 6 or 7 times and they did not answer. I then tried to buzz the reception call (red) button on the door to the hotel. No one from reception answered. I then tried to seek assistance from their online chat. They were absolutely hopeless and some guy from France said he could not help me and to call reception. I told him I tried 6 or 7 times, and he said "sorry" and left the chat. I was out in the cold in Hobart for almost 40 minutes and I missed out on having dinner at the restaurant I wanted to eat at, because of this delay. Lucky some guy was leaving the hotel and so I asked him where do I check in. He told me the other address and so I went and drove over to that other address. Very very disappointing and poor experience. Customer service at the desk didn't offer much by way of resolution other than to say that I should have been told that reception has a different address to the hotel and different address to our website....
Check in at another location 10 minutes away. King sized bed was 2 singles pushed together and the most uncomfortable bed ever! Large water stains all over the curtains. Good location for Salamanca restaurants. Take your own coffee and milk. They don't give you much of that either.
A neat and tidy apartment with laundry facilities. Very comfortable king size bed and very easy to regulate the heating. Washing machine and dryer is in the bathroom. The location was perfect, just a walk down the hill to cafes, bars, restaurants and, of course, the Salamanca Markets. just remember to collect the keys from the Elizabeth Street Pier before you arrive at the accommodation. Also a car park space is not 100% guaranteed.
The location was good and the bedroom and balcony were what you would expect for the price but unfortunately we were allocated a room with a wheelchair bathroom which is great to see that it was available but unfortunately neither my wife of I needed the facility and it made us a bit let down as this was supposed to be a romantic trip away for us. Things got worse when we decided to utilise the washing machine, it filled with water and then refused to proceed to wash cycle, had to call reception and they apologised and came and took it away to be washed which was good of them. The location and units would be fine I'm sure but one thing after another lead to a disappointing stay.
Apart from the water saving low pressure shower head which required one to stay in the shower much longer than usual in order to wash and rinse, the apartment was well designed and comfortably furnished. We also arrived in Hobart very late and found it very difficult to find Somerset on Salamanca in the dark as it was not well lit or signed. We were also woken very early on the Saturday morning by workmen dragging objects (bins?) around outside our window, though I guess you can't avoid this being in the centre of the city.
Large clean room with a balcony was nice. View was unfortunately of another building and not the harbour. A couple of lounge chairs and table in room, comfortable bed, complimentary apples were a nice touch. Kitchenette, washing machine & dryer would be very useful for an extended stay.
We stayed here for a 'girl's weekend' as a group of tired mothers at the end of school holidays. The apartments are spacious, warm, in a fabulous location for Mona ferry, Salamanca markets and restaurants. They are a little tired but very clean and all the space you need for a weekend away. I would recommend to families as well as the kitchens are well stocked and plenty of room to move
The location was fantastic with Salamanca markets literally only a few steps away however I will admit, checking in on a Saturday made it a nightmare to try and get our car to the hotel with all the street closures yet we managed and we understand that this surely does not reflect upon the hotel in any way. However to pull into the carpark, go to the front doors and then find out that reception is not even in the same building was quite unexpected. It was only a 7 or so minute walk (feels a tad longer in the cold of Hobart) but some fore warning on this would be nice so that we could have gone there before navigating our way to the hotel. We even called the day before our booking to confirm our reservation and were not informed that we would need to go to another hotel to check in, something which I believe the hotel should be more upfront about as it would catch a lot less people off guard. Maybe it is something that should be put clearly on the website (like how guests are told the common area and DVD library is at the Pier) and is also communicated directly to guests when they call and confirm bookings. Our room itself was quite nice though with a very nice set up and even a small balcony that I braved very briefly. However the bathroom was actually quite lacking compared to the modern luxury of the bedroom itself. Now, we were put in an accessible room, meaning our bathroom was a bit more basic to accommodate disabled guests but it was incredibly sparse with just bare white tiles everywhere, inefficient draining that left water on the floor almost constantly and a completely inadequate fan that did little to remove any steam from the bathroom. Looking back now there are no photos of bathrooms from any of the other rooms so I'm unsure if it is just our room that was lackluster or whether this is an area they decided to save money on.
We stayed here with our family at the start of july 2017. Appartments are in a good location close walking distance if you like to walk. However the appartments need some tlc. Mouldy shower heads and dust so thick in the vent that a spider fell on my 10 year old whilst he was showering. The rooms need better heating it was freezing of an evening and the little vent heaters only blow out air as much as a human can blow out of there mouth. We had to turn off the one in the kids room as it was blowing out dust. The somerset on pier seems to have better reviews.
Location was fabulous - right on Salamanca markets. Room was large and had a good bathroom with washing machine and dryer, also microwave. View was pretty good. Service was great with them allowing a late checkout at the last minute. I will continue to seek out Somersets for my holidays if possible.
