We had a large room that had a 4 poster bed and the en-suite was large as well with a state of art shower. In fact it looked as if the 'suite' had been very recently re-furbished. Given the high ceiling level and time of year initial impression was that the room felt a little cool but a convection heater was already present and in no time a comfortable temperature was reached. Location is great with fantastic view from the room overlooking fields and woods. Evening meal and breakfast were excellent as was the service. The entire place appeared calm and stress free so we left in a similar mode.
Me and my partner booked this hotel through a groupon deal and i have to say, it was lovely! We booked the four poster room and upon booking i informed the staff it was an anniversary and we were upgraded which was great. Our room was beautiful! It had all thr original characteristics which we loved. The only thing that felt out of place was the plastic chair....i would suggest they replace them with something that fits with the decor. The food was delicious and the staff friendly, the pool table which was free to use was a nice touch also 😊 The reason i gave 4 stars was that our TV didnt work so someone had to come up and sort it out and also, the meal portions were a little on the small side, my partner was left a little hungry after the meal. And there wasnt much of an atmosphere in the restaurant, we felt we had to whisper at times. All in all i would definatley recommend this hotel and if were in the area again, we will return 😊
We stayed here for 2 nights on a Secret Escape deal. The room was clean, warm and comfortable with quality bedding. The large wardrobe had a huge door which kept sticking but we reported this when we left so hopefully that will be dealt with. Food was good with a variety of choices. Service was excellent. This very young staff should be congratulated on their excellent, helpful, friendly service. On a humorous note, the manager should really read the hotel handbook carefully. A previous guest ( room 6) had started to correct it but given up. There are remnants of buildings in the grounds not “ruminants of buildings” and its Symonds Yat not “Yet”. (Send ME the handbook and I’ll correct it! ) Also the plastic chair kind of spoils the decor in the room and the entrance hall needs brightening up as it looks really dull and off putting when you arrive ( the rest of the hotel is much better). Luckily the friendly guy on reception cheers it up.
I bought this for my girlfriend for her birthday! Now we love staying at country houses and brooks has always been brilliant! Now first of all the grounds are beautiful the house is beautiful and the room we had the 4 poster bed number 1 is stunning! Thanks so much for a great stay I will be back soon!!
Booked to stay here with my hubby as part of a groupon deal. We arrived to be greeted by very pleasant staff. Being Georgian it certainly had character in every room. If you are looking for modern this isnt the place to go but we loved it. Our room was clean and spacious and the heated bathroom floor a fabulous welcome in this autumn weather. The views are beautiful and grounds lovely too. Plenty of walks can be had around here. The food was beautiful and my steak done to perfection. The chocolate and caramel tart just divine. There was also plenty of variety on offer with the breakfast which was also cooked lovely. There is a games room and in the back a pool table with a record player. The lounge had a welcoming open fire and bar service was very good. The bedrooms all have old furniture which gives it a lovely character and the only thing that spoils it is the plastic chair in front of the dressing table as it looks out of place. I couldn't find any faults with our stay and the staff were all lovely and helpful. Would definately stay again as it is perfect for a relaxing stay. It is quiet and a good place to recharge from life. Just gutted I didnt book the 2 night offer. I am very picky when staying away due to being a poor sleeper but I managed a good nights sleep here. Will definately go back.
Have just returned from Brooks Country House hotel where they hosted for us the most amazing 90th birthday party. Don't let that age make you think we were all about tea and cake. The hotel did their utmost to help us with all the setting up of the room and the equipment for our band and also a duo who performed earlier on. The rooms are beautiful, and we were able to take over the whole hotel and everyone felt it was a very special grand house to spend our evening in. The food was plentiful and delicious catering, with ease, for celiacs, vegetarians and even lactose intolerant guests. Breakfast was delicious and fresh, cooked to order. Cannot thank the team involved enough for making our stay and the evening the most wonderful cordial event. Thank you from us all. We will be back for the next party!
My sister and I stayed at Brooks Country House which is set in stunning grounds with spectacular views, the stay included dinner and breakfast. A friendly and a warm welcome was offered by Lucas who was so helpful and attentive during our stay. We enjoyed sitting by the open log burning fire in the bar, We booked twin beds but was shown a double bedded room. However, Dominic the manager, graciously changed our room and gave us each a room which we greatly appreciated. The staff were all very helpful and the service was excellent. Thank you Dominic and Lucas for making our stay so enjoyable we will defiantly be returning.
Booked with secret escapes and were blown away fantastic house with lots off old charm but in a modern way ,we had a 2 course evening meal which was delicious and a couple of drinks in the bar with the fire on was just perfect ,fabulous night sleep then wake up to amazing choice at breakfast Well worth a visit we wii be going back
Arranged to stay as part of a get together with girlfriends. The bedrooms and public areas were lovely. Our rooms were in the 'Courtyard' but didn't feel 'annexy' at all. They were big, tastefully decorated with large comfortable beds. My en-suite was 'sunken' and spa like. We had booked for dinner also and all had the Hereford steak - each cooked to perfection and served with bearnaise sauce and fries. I chose cheese instead of a dessert and was given enough for the four of us ! Other reviews mention the age of the staff. They do appear young but are all unfailingly friendly, polite and professional. The grounds are beautiful. There is an outdoor swimming pool but it was too late in the season to be open. I am planning on a return to spend the whole trip at the hotel instead of just a place to sleep.
A TripAdvisor Member “A Lovely retreat - dog friendly” Pending review We have just returned, today, from this hotel. We took our elderly parents and were allocated ground floor rooms, as my father is a bit unsteady on his feet. These rooms are not inside the main establishment as the rooms in the main area are upstairs. Our rooms were nice and my parents had a beautiful wet room. Our room had a bath and a shower, but the shower pressure was pretty rubbish, so we bathed instead. Unfortunately both us and our parents had poor sleep as the rooms were too hot and we were unable to shut off the radiators as the controller was absent. Even with the windows open it was unbearable. This could be easily rectified if a sheet was provided under the duvet the the duvet could be set aside. (I even considered sleeping in the car.) However the beds were comfortable. I did mention this to the male receptionist and he said he would get maintenance to sort the heating out. (He also apologised.) Our evening meal was delicious. My brother and his wife joined us and we all enjoyed drinks in the bar, with a roaring fire before eating. The dining room was beautifully set out and tastefully decorated emphasising the era of the Manor House. The staff were all polite and friendly and went out of their way to assist in every manner. Our food, steaks, fish pie, pancakes, etc was tasty and everyone cleared their plates. Steaks cooked to perfection, rare/blue and medium. After dinner we enjoyed sitting in the lounge, again in lovely surroundings. From reading other reviews, this hotel is obviously not to everyone’s taste. It is a little quirky, with some items of furniture and certain paintings looking a little out of place. But obviously someone likes these items and they are certainly, if not to my taste, not offensive. I loved the high backed brown leather chairs. You need to be careful not to slip on the rugs covering the distressed floorboards (they really need some of the non-slip stuff underneath (readily available from Ikea) ). I was really worried about my parents slipping on those. The gardens are beautiful. We loved our stay here and will return. I would recommend it. It is like staying in a beautiful home of a friend, rather than a hotel, we were totally chilled out and relaxed after our stay here. If I was getting married again, I would choose this hotel as my venue as it reminds me of a house I used to live in. This hotel does not serve lunch. There is a garden centre next door that takes five minutes to walk to (worth a visit). The hotel is dog friendly. Will definitely take my dogs next time.
