Scandic Espoo4.0 out of 5.0

We have been with friends in this hotel; rooms are good but not new; some modernization could be useful. Breakfast is very good, also for gluten free options. Location is not optimal if you want to visit downtown Helsinki (car is needed). Generally good enough for a long weekend.
Come on, Scandic, you can do better than this! I stayed at the Scandic Espoo on a business trip, Wednesday to Thursday in June 2017. The hotel as such is ok. The room was nice and spacious and there was a coffee maker, which in my book is a great plus. The pool and sauna area is also very good, except that it would be nice if they would be open a little earlier than 18:00. When checking in as a Scandic club member, I got a voucher to spend in the restaurant or in the lobby shop. I would like some fruit, but the selection in the lobby shop was very poor, so I ended up going to the nearby supermarket to get fruit. A small thing, but part of the overall impression. The restaurant (KG Restaurant) was what really made me consider finding another hotel for my next visit. I was there for supper. I ordered a beer, a starter and a main course. I expected the beer to arrive before the food, but having waited and asked for it twice, I had to pick it up from the bar myself. The starter, an assortment of hot snacks, was quite good. The main course, fish and chips, was really bad. The fish pieces were quite small and soft and covered in a thick, greasy layer of batter, and accompanied by some bad tasting sauces. Next morning I went there again for breakfast, not having any other options. The coffee was OK, but the yoghurt was luke warm, the orange juice was yellow water (there was a problem with the machine, but it was not fixed while I was there). The boiled eggs were cold, and the scrambled eggs tasted of frying oil. Obviously there was not a fried egg in sight. The carrot sticks were dry to the point, where they were curling up. It is a pity, as the hotel itself was OK, and the pool and sauna area was over average. The restaurant pulled it all down...
For those of used to visit Scandic hotels , the Scandic Esbo offers no surprises. The hotel interior is slightly worn but service is friendly, and everything is clean. Rooms are equipped with iron, free wifi, water kettle with tea, coffee and hot chocolate for free. Join the customer club and you get free vouchers to use in the restaurant and shop. Location is good for business but not so nice if you want a nice view, but there is a pool and sauna area if you have time to spend.
With considerably lower rates compared to other capital city Scandic hotels, this establishment makes a very good choice if you don't need to go back and forth to Helsinki centre too many times during your stay. However, the public bus stops right next to the hotel and takes you to Helsinki centre in about 30 min, costing EUR 5,50 one way. There's free parking, too. Finnish hotels don't usually have single rooms, instead you get a double / twin for single use. This one does have single rooms and I must say mine was one of the best single rooms I've ever stayed in, with coffee & tea making facilities even in a standard room (in Finland they're typically available in superior rooms only, except in fancier hotels). Very nice sauna and pool and a superb breakfast. Friendly employees, too!
Nice Hotel for business trip with all the essentials - situated in a industry/business area in Espoo. You will rely on public transportation to get around so that will limit your schedule, nothing interesting to see around. Train station is a 15 minute walk, Helsinki center is 30 minutes by bus. Its well served by buses to get around.
We didnt find a single thing we wont be happy with. The room was clean and comfortable, specially the beds. Breakfast was good. We didnt have time for sauna and swimming pool, but they looked nice. Both check in & out were quick and handled with a friendly way.
In the first room was the dusty floor, dirty minibar. There on the floor was hair and nails. On the wall in the bathroom was toothpaste.Under the armchair we found a comb left by previous guests. The room quickly changed to another. The second room had problems with plumbing. Both rooms have quite old furniture. The hotel has no Russian speaking staff and there is no Russian channel on TV.Very helpful staff.Thank you.
Its way out of the city. It's in a boring area. Just a highway next to it. It has only one restaurant that's closed on Sundays. Food there is pricey, but the steak was good. The rooms and toilet were average. The rooms are clean. The staff are helpful and very polite. You can get a taxi within minutes. There's a supermarket about almost a kilometre away. The car park in the hotel was almost empty.
Scandic Espoo is a basic business type of hotel with good overall impression. Stayed for two nights and after the first night room was not cleaned in between (not that it mattered but something is wrong with the process if that can happen). The other annoying factor was slowish service at KG - waitresses were friendly but seemed to have too much to do. Room quality was ok, WiFi worked well through the hotel and breakfast was good quality. Scandic Espoo is a reasonable option if the location suites your needs.
I travelled with family (2 kids, 1 and 3). Staff was really great; always with a big smile. We had a small "Fruit and berry mix" surprise and room had everything we needed for all of us, with a few really nice details like on bigger potty it had a small seat for kids included. Sometimes it's on this small details that you really fell welcome, and we really felt very well welcome on Scandic Espoo!
