Scandic Central Elverum3.0 out of 5.0

I recently stayed at First Hotel Elverum. This is an old hotel that has changed owners a number of times. The restaurant (The Grill) bears more than a slight resemblance to the Egon Chain, which is often seen in conjunction With Thon hotels. Reception staff pleasant and helpful. Room not modern but very clean and cumfy. Good bed, slept well. Wi-fi fell out a few times, but otherwise OK. Breakfast was very tasty, particularly the scrambled eggs, which were not dried out, as they often are in hotel breakfast buffets. Very centrally located (most hotels in Elverum aren't).
This hotel have a good and central location, the only in this town located in the centrum. But everything are avarege close to below average. Friendly staff and with the-very local attitude, that's charming in a way. The maintaining budget do not exist in this hotel, everything are well used( if you like unmaintained 80'retro this I the dream). Rooms are more or less clean, funny light systems with location where it's impossible to get use of them in a proper way. And there is a overwhelming smell of old French Fries 🍟 all over the hotel, including in the reception area. Breakfast good and interesting in the "back to the future hall", with a little annoying sound from the local radio station P4.
A stay at First Elverum is ok and absolutely worth the money. The greeting is friendly the room is ok. This hotel has all the necessity you will need - but nothing more. It was clean and tidy. The bathroom was ok but a little out of date - though not bad. For a stay in this region absolutely recommendable.
This hotel has old and snappy facilities, but the rooms were kept nice and clean. The rooms are not fantastic, merely a place to sleep if you have things to do the rest of the day, The breakfast was surprisingly good. They offered a variety of fresh and healthy options in a simple, Norwegian style. And they could cater very well for my gluten free requirements and other allergy problems. Actually - we could see one from the staff crossing the street with a shopping bag after having purchased some food items I had requested, and they made sure I got that offered for my breakfasts there - that is superb service! The staff was also very helpful about parking and other information.
Thon Elverum is a Little bit cheaper than the Scandic hotel in Elverum. Old style, and nothing fancy. Nice and friendly staff and above average breakfast buffet for this type of hotel. Downside: No hot Water in the shower at 07.00 in the morning!!
I spent one night at the Thon Hotel Elverum on a business trip. I was assigned a room on the first floor. The room was pretty much like a prison cell - the sink was next to the bed, there was no closet, in fact no way to hang up a coat or a shirt anywhere apart from a worn out chair. The view was a white wall about 1 meter from the window. The shower and toilet shared a space of about a half square meter. You could literally sit on the toiet while taking a shower. I mentioned this to the reception clerk but she said she had no other rooms available. It must have been a blatant lie as there were virtually no guests as far as we could tell - the restaurant was mostly empty in the evening and and so was the breakfast room in the morning. The hotel was very noisy at night - there were people chattering in the hallways and neighboring rooms after midnight and well into the night (they woke me up several times) and the soundproofing is fairly bad. I'd give this stay a 0 if possible but I'll accept a 1 for offering gluten free food, free parking, and for having friendly staff. They did let me borrow an extra pillow.
No one warned me about the upcoming hard-rock concert as I booked my room for Saturday night, but on arrival I guess the tattoo convention that was held in the hotel that night gave me a clue of what would come… It was impossible to get a good night sleep with that bass pounding, and a vocalist that was squealing like a pig! How they could arrange a rock concert in the hotel, and at the same time taking reservations from people without informing them is beyond belief? As probably everyone can guess, the uproar went on after the music stopped, so this was an all-night incident. As I entered the restaurant the next day to have breakfast, I overheard some guests who had the same experience as I, and I suspect that by failing to warn us about this concert, they probably lost quite a few customers for ever – including me. I would rather stay at Fawlty Towers, or Bates Motel even than spending one more night at Thon Hotel Elverum.
Very warm place with really Nice People working there. The food was amazing in the The Grill. Ok prices and great service. It will be my next Choice for sure when I'm staying in Elverum later this year.
Me and the Family stayed some days in this hotel. I think all was good! The rooms, service, waiters, Food and managers was great! Will recommend everybody to try a stay in this wonderful hotel! We will surely try to get there as a romantic weekend. Or just to eat the tasty Food there. Very nice and good hotel!
I guess this is the only hotel in small town called Elverum and in case you have to stay overnight it will be the THON Hotel Elverum. It's quite warn out and badly needs some renovation to bring it to the 21st century. Otherwise it is clean of course with friendly service as you can find everywhere in Norway. The room I stayed was quite large even for Scandinavian standards and well enough equipped (even trowser press) . The bedding was good, too. There are some nice and surprising touches in the hotel like free Nespresso machine in the lobby and the breakfast was really good. There was a large choice of cold cuts and salmon (Norway!) but there also was a belgian waffel maker with ready made dough and different jams. And an egg chef. and. and If you stay overnight in Elverum, you'll be OK. No worries.
