The people the people the people. Put aside the beautiful property and the surroundings, staff memember work behind the counter. Emily and her team come from different part of the world, embracing the beauty of New Zealand, and deliver genuine hospitality in kiwi style.

We traveled to Australia and New Zealand for 2 weeks in each country. Of all the Hotels we stayed at, and we do fancy nice hotels, like the Park Hyatt in Sydney, The Mangapapa Hotel was the best overall, hands down. From allowing us to check in early, to preparing a special tea for my sick husband, caught a cold, to the high end cuisine and did I mention the suite was magical! They even have Netflix so we did some binge watching!!. Highly recommended if you want to splurge. And they should have UBER by next year (the hotel is away from Naipier's and other smaller towns.

Visited for a birthday celebration and could not have chosen better. Wine tasting to start ; degustation meal was simply amazing and personal attention from the chef and staff topped it all off. Truly an amazing experience.

A big thank you to Emily, the Chef, delightful wait staff and polite cleaners at Mangapapa Hotel. You made our weekend an absolute delight our Friends and Family where most impressed with the accommodation. The words I kept hearing from our guests was the food was beautiful the staff were extremely helpful and the setting was gorgeous. The weather even behaved, all thanks goes to the behind the scene organisation. Huge thanks our Marriage celebrations have great memories. We will be back not quite so many.

My partner and I eloped to the Hawkes Bay and got married in Mangapapa Hotel. Everything about the hotel was first class. The slickness of our booking, the service and the accommodation (we stayed in the Seefeld room - it was beautiful, spacious and very comfortable). And the food was to die for - everything was made from scratch - from the best dukkah and club sandwich I have ever eaten (!) to the perfectly balanced five course dining experience. I was so sad to leave but plan to come back on our anniversary!

Arriving at the Mangapapa Hotel was like a dream. This beautiful old estate house—formerly owned by the founder of Wattie's Baked Beans—has been beautifully renovated to become a top hotel for the region. Rooms were spacious and luxurious wth modern amenities balanced with vintage and antique decor. Afternoon tea is a must as is at least one dinner at the hotel restaurant where Irish-native Chef, Paul Condron has a deft hand at continental fare with local, seasonal ingredients. The wine list is a fantastic as well. Best of all, the service. We bacon well acquainted with GM, David Thompson, who helped arrange a few site-seeing experiences and activities including and Art Deco Tour of Hawke's bay in vintage cars from the Art Deco Trust, a view of Cape Kidnappers and an afternoon of Clay Shooting and instruction through Hau Ora Clay Shooting. The rooms were beautifully decorated and very comfortable. At the time they were updating part of the property to include a spa and I can't wait to see how that turns out. Perhaps most memorable was that NZ experienced a 7.8 Earthquake. It woke us all from a sound sleep in the middle of the night. Though the epicenter was near Kaikoura on the South Island, it was felt all the way in Hawke's Bay. Not having ever been in an earthquake before, the experience was surreal. But Thompson, who had remained on site for the night took great care of us, not only looking out for his own family, but make sure we were all safe for a precautionary evacuation due to fears of a potential tsunami along the Eastern coastline. I can't speak highly enough about our time at Mangapapa. I can't wait to go back.

Mangapapa fulfilled our every expectation. The property, our suite and the staff were all excellent. We are well travelled and Mangapapa rates with the best. It's meticulously well kept and the service and food first class.

Just 2 nights here as a special treat for my wife's birthday. We couldn't have asked for a better place. Beautiful property, recently renovated but still with the charm of a grand old building. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient, and (that rarest of finds in New Zealand) the service was amazing. The restaurant was great, a real experience and a wonderful 5 course dinner (although we counted at least 7 different dishes) all explained by the actual chef as they came out. Breakfast was fantastic too, as was the coffee. If you are like us - average kiwis who always try to save money when traveling - then you must make a night or 2 here something to do one day. Shout yourself! It was totally worth it, you will feel like you've stepped into an amazing lifestyle that only the rich and famous get to experience. You deserve it! At least for a short time. We were sad when we had to leave....

We spent a Friday & Saturday night at the hotel in late June. On both nights it was very quiet - with only one other couple staying on each night. We were fortunate to be upgraded to a suite when we arrived. The hotel is the ex-residence of a very successful local residence, and the owners have done a good job of maintaining the grandeur of the past. Whilst the service was not "polished", it was certainly very genuine and pleasant. We dined both nights in the hotel, including the 5 course degustation menu the second night. The chef at the restaurant is a real asset - with great flavours coming through each of the dishes.

This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in , and we have stayed in many all over the world. We were fortunate to have our room upgraded to a suit which was superb, beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable. The staff were delightful, courteous yet unobtrusive. Breakfast was delicious, as was the one dinner we ate on our first night. All in beautiful surroundings both internally and externally. We spent three nights here for a few days relaxation during our tour of New Zealand and it was perfect. Just wish we could have stayed longer!
