Sofitel Hangzhou Westlake

Hotel staff are generally very polite and helpful. But the concierge, though polite and helpful, are not forthcoming enough with information. When I enquired about certain tourist spots, they fail to inform me about opening hours, though it was evident that I was interested to go. It is more like: they will only tell what I ask, but lack the initiative to offer obvious or important information to guests. Hence, service is much to be desired here. Rooms are okay, but obviously getting old and can be refurbished. Location is good though: very close to the Xihu lake. Gym is (too) small, but decent enough.

I enloyed staying at Hangzhou Sofitel very much as usual. As an accor member, i usually stay at Sofitel whenever i visit Hangzhou. Without exception, my stay this time was also satisfactory with warm greetings from old friends, ungrade etc. Service at the lounge was very warmly and freindly. Relaxation with comfortable beds are also notable. Very near the beautiful West Lake, i had a wonderful time roaming over as well. All the efforts from people around is of course the most essential part for the enjotment.

Too rush and had to depart to Shanghai the next day. (Stay was less then 8 hours) Slow in check-in and room cleaniness, the rest was fantastic. Will definatley recommend this hotel to my relatives and friends.

Had a decent stay recently but disappointed in a few ways, so I’d say this hotel can only classified as a Novotel or “Novotel +” at best, and definitely not Sofitel level. I am not fussy by any means but if they call themselves a Sofitel and charge Sofitel dollars, these things should not be happening: -though their web and email confirmation stated clearly free accommodation for child under 12, a guy named Johnny at check-in still wanted to charge me. Had to confront a manager before this got settled. Obviously Johnny wasn’t all too familiar with his hotel’s policies. -they only serve Johnny Walker Black label at club lounge. They should do better if they are a 5-star property -they put all the drinks in a large ice-less ice bucket, which means the drinks are not cold enough when served. How difficult is it to chill the champagne and white wines in a proper ice bucket filled with ice? -the rooms are equipped with climate control but it’s fake, because the ventilation only had heat. I know it’s winter now but some people (like myself) cannot stand heat. If you want air-conditioning in your room you would have to shut the machine off and have the windows opened, which caused another problem because it’s very noisy outside as the hotel has only 6 floors and it’s facing a busy street -they only have very low quality and small wine glasses in the room so if it’s a waste if you brought in a couple of nice wines to enjoy in the room at night like me -they served a jar of Christmas cookies in the room on Christmas day (which was nice), but strangely housekeeping took it away the next day. Perhaps it was for decoration only? -the shower door would not close properly in my room meaning water kept leaking to the floor during shower. I had to put the garbage bin to hold the shower door -on 5th floor they had a guest relations rep out at lift lobby but the girl on duty on the 25th didn’t even look (never mind say morning) when we left the room at about 08:45 -the breakfast served on lobby floor was OK in terms of both quantity and quality, but if you sit near the kitchen counter where they serve sausages and eggs, your clothes and hair will carry that strong oil smell with you the whole day

Location of the hotel was several long blocks away from the lake with nice neighborhood. There were hardly rooms with a view with most rooms facing the back side of apartment blocks. Facilities of the hotel were dated. Enough staff spoke limited English to give foreigners guidance. Walking to the West Lake was easy. The city of Hangzhou was beautiful with lots of greenery. Most of the drivers in the streets were courteous, stopping to let pedestrians cross the streets. Local people we ran into are courteous and warm. Wish we had stayed longer to enjoy the city.

Old hotel in very good location but really bad condition. Room not clean, staff seems exhausted and stressed, spa stinks like feces and chlorine. Pool was so disgusting that we both tourned around instantly we saw it. Looked molded or something else disgusting. Two times Spaghetti bolognese with both double cheese were ordered for room service. After 40 minutes both came cold, with very little cheese on it and absolutely no salt. After complaining it took another 40 minutes to prepare so we cancelled our order. I can not recommend this hotel to anybody!! Best part of it is the reception staff during the day. For me it is a perfect example of a management desaster. Hotel needs to be renovated completely or toren off!!

A crappy hotel close to the lake. Room size ok, but apart from that everything is very ordinary. No view, don't expect to see the lake from your room as not in that direct. The breakfast sucks...overcrowded and can't recall anything really tastes good. Things get a bit better when I pay a extra more for lounge access - there is a free flow happy hours daily which really worth the price!

Spent one day for a conference in Shanghai. The hotel is well located, walking distance to most things around the West Lake as well as some business areas. The lobby is nothing special, borderline tasteless, and the check-in process was on the slow side. But the rooms excel. I had a corner suite sort of room (271) which was enormous, spotless, well appointed with an excellent Illy coffee machine and a remarkable bathroom. Wonderful shower (I hear all showers are such high quality), great toiletries and towels. Bedding first class. Very quiet for the location. I slept wonderfully. Decent breakfast, generous buffet and - predictably - perfect croissants.

The hotel is located opposite the West Lake and is within walking distance to the West Lake Museum, Hefang Street and a mall. I arrived around 11pm+ and waited for about 10 mins before i could check in. There was only one front desk staff and he was sorting out arrangements for a small group. Nevertheless he was polite and apologetic when arranging my check-in and upgraded my room to the club floor. Room was comfortable and quiet. Hotel staff were helpful when we asked for assistance in taxi arrangements and directions to certain tourist sights. The surprise birthday cake delivered to my room was also a very nice touch.

Fantastic hotel this is the third time We have stayed here. The location is amazing right on the lake at Westlake, if you love walking it's the perfect place, wonderful bars and restaurants close by and the hotel is great. It is a little bit tired but it really doesn't matter because the location and staff are great. This time we used the club lounge which was amazing! The staff were really wonderful, well Worth the extra money, breakfast afternoon tea and drinks and snacks at 5.00 were great. The staff really made a difference will be back in a heart beat
