So, if anyone will offer you to live in the hotel or in the Golden sphere, which one would you prefer? The hotel looks amazing from the inside and outside. Rooms are good, bathroom with glass window very nice. Breakfast was standard for Chinese premium hotels with local and western dishes. During busy hour, you should wait for hostess with coffee. Once the rain had fell on Hangzhou, and room on upper floor became a waterfall view room. It looked like waterfall from the inside: water flowed like the river. From the second floor, you can easy access to the "Outlet" mall and the subway. One day workers repaired floor in the restaurant at night with hard tools, but there was no noise in the room. May be because of floor 17 ))) CONTRA Air in the room is dead and conditioner makes it cooler but not fresh. When you call somebody to the German restaurant check if they have beer. We came to have some beer but they have no (((
I was so looking forward to staying here - an iconic venue with its architectural uniqueness. Check in was fine. The room was good. Room service was poor - the level of English was terrible - repeating my order what felt like 1000 times. Missed both drink orders. Room was stuck at 22 degrees despite wanting to change, I slept badly all three nights. On the second night - the lobby bar had run out of 2 of their 3 beers (on bottle) - nothing on tap, their German brew house had also run out of beer (oh!.. the irony) and trying to get there was a mission with signs that were outright wrong, their Italian/Medditerian restaurant was closed, despite the hotel having all signage out claiming otherwise - and lastly when finally going back to the room to order food - I asked for Spaghetti Bolognese - and being given a bottle of Sparking water - not happy. At least they had a packet of nuts in the room..... Went to speak to management - and their level of English was poor, and my ranting fell on deaf ears - 5-star hotel you are not. The facade? - Glorious - User experience - terrible! - Never again.
This is clearly a 6 star hotel. The suite is amazing. Very nice 2 room suite. Living room and separate master room. Nice bathtub. Everything is new. Overlooking the river means you wake up to paranomic view.
Hangzhou for two business days over Easter and booked myself into the ball. Yes, this hotel is shaped like a spherical ball. Looks awesome from the outside. Check in and out: check in was good and quick until a man walked up to me and asked me which company did I work for! Wait! I have not had that question throughout my whole life experience checking into hotels anywhere in the world. Is it even a requirement to disclose who my employer is? Gosh! Checking out was good and quick. Room: I was upgraded to the suite and was great. Very spacious. However, bed was a tad uncomfortable and small. The mattress was too bouncy and that made it uncomfortable. Wifi: Great speed but no VPN Bathroom: Amenities good and sufficient. Location: Walking distance to the riverside where you can see the light show at night. My bad at all. Overall: Good location and nice design. Improve the bed and do not get too invasive with compulsory questions that seem ridiculous. Especially to a Platinum member.
What can I say... excellent hotel. The best in Hangzhou, and one of the best in the world. It is iconic, shaped as a large golden sphere. The rooms are large and comfortable, the views extraordinary, the service excellent, the rates reasonable. Rooms were exceedingly quiet. In fairness, I found the elevator system a bit strange -- you must use one bank of elevators to get to the fifth floor and then switch to another elevator bank to go up to your room; but this is a small negative. As an added bonus, taxi drivers and other locals all know how to find the big golden ball, so no risk in getting lost.
Stayed in this hotel on 2 April - 3 April during my leg of the tour in Hangzhou...flying back to Singapore immediately the day after...emailed to the hotel but there is no response nor any replies to my email...a bit disappointing...the pool was crowded but the reception was good and helpful and responsive though...good work to the reception and the Guest Relations Officers...
After staying at the InterContinental Ruijin, Indigo on the Bund, this is our last stop. Without doubt the exterior of the hotel truly stands out. Gold looking sphere building, which looks fabulous at night. Nothing special about the room, but we certainly had a good night sleep. Location wise, it was the most convenient compared to the other two, we didnt take taxi as underground was good enough.
Warm welcome by Lisa, Sweezy and reception. Excellent view of Qiantang river and good facility in room and fitness center. Work distance to river side for jogging or running. Located conveniently to the airport and major railway stations. Will come back again.
Got to this hotel late. First time stay here. The first impression is it looks like the sun which it suppose to. Get inside and it is huge. Like a space ship with all the room around. They offered my free upgrade and free breakfast. The stuff there is very friendly. I highly recommend to stay here. Surrounding should have the Music fountain show but it was not the right date.
As an ambassador card holder, I am a fan of the intercontinental chain. This hotel has plenty of positives, large clean rooms with impressive views, check in and out was pleasant and effective, and the local area is not as busy but has a great light show with the hotels adjoining and an outlet mall connected to the hotel. It is not yet great as the breakfast lacks quality especially in 'western fare', and too many of the servers lack English. We ordered drinks and the server was frustrated (with herself) that she went off and brought back drinks she thought we wanted rather than what we have actually asked for. Compared to other intercontinental's, management was not as visible as we are accustomed to. This could be summarised with a "cleaning card" checkbox as we had not gone to breakfast before 9:00 am and had to ask for the room to be cleaned. That isn't something I expect from a 5 star hotel. However, it must be said that those few challenges are minor so we had a great stay and enjoyed the beauty of Hangzhou.
