My partner and I stayed here for three nights in early April. We had been looking forward to our stay and, for the most part, it was average. The positives: The guest services staff were lovely, and could not have been more helpful, even providing us with a potion to relieve the itch of numerous mosquito bites we received whilst staying in our villa. The breakfast was more than ample, with free flow prosecco and varied choices from which to select. The breakfast restaurant staff, though, were sullen and more interested in being on their phones than attending to their guests. I had to ask for coffee on one morning three times before it was served. The negatives: The jet spa villa was advertised as being a retreat from the world. Whilst the high walls at the entry provided privacy, and it was lovely to sit out there on the patio, the verandah at the back looked out onto what could only be described as a swamp – it was not the wetlands it was purported to be at all, but instead a stagnant pool of water with a refuse pipe running through it. What’s more, on our second morning, we opened the blinds onto the verandah, only to be greeted with a team filming some kind of production and, when we left the villa for breakfast, the rest of their team was milling about out the front. It would have been nice for the Banyan Tree staff to have informed us of this disturbance. When we arrived, the jet pool was dirty and it was clear it had not been cleaned since the previous guests. This was promptly remedied by the staff, and we are grateful for their prompt assistance. The villa itself was old and tired; there was dust everywhere, stains on the carpet, couch and the curtains. The door handles were sticky, and there were handprints and smears of handprints all over the woodwork. The bathrooms were very clean, however, with plentiful soft towels and lovely products. This space was, perhaps, my favourite of the entire villa. If you’re considering a visit to this location, a word of warning: Don’t come in Spring or Summer when it is mosquito season. We were left badly bitten (both inside the villa, and outside on the terrace) – it wouldn’t hurt for the staff to use a mosquito bomb, regular smoke or provide mosquito coils to burn like incense, to ensure that the mosquitos are eradicated from the villas, especially around areas of water. The spa treatments were also disappointing, I had also booked a 90 min massage, but it only went for just over 60 minutes. I wish I spoke Mandarin, as I could have asked why, and a child screaming right outside the window meant that an experience I hoped would be relaxing was, instead, quite the opposite. Considering that staying in a jet pool villa at the Banyan Tree is very expensive, I would have expected more. It definitely was not the 5-star experience as the website had proclaimed. Given the cost, I expected more. I do not recommend this Banyan Tree and, having stayed at other locations in other countries, I would say this is the poorest of them all.
Nice property but requires upkeep. The pool is not in tip top condition. A lot of controls in jacuzzi not functioning. Front desk staff are excellent but restaurant staff needs improvement, learn to smile!
This hotel is in a beautiful location, surrounded by lush vegatation surrounded by water and bridges.the rooms are huge, suites with gigantic and elefant bathroom, nice bedroom with big tubs.staff is super nice.breakfast could be a bit better, also breakfast location is small and seems a bit old.but the rest is well worth it.
the villas design, size and confort is exceptional. The resort was tired, it needed some investment. the food was not up to the level that this hotel/resort you should be expecting. i agree that the breakfast was boring
I am sorry for the late review. Actually I was staying in Banyantree Hangzhou for a lot of times, and I used to choose to stay here and Angsana. I love the constructions, the lake views, especially the food of Angsana and the breakfast in Banyantree, they make me to fall in love with the local food. And also the staff always provide proactive service for me, I don't remember their names, but I can feel their kindness and they always be professional for every guest. At last, sorry for this late review again. I love to stay with Banyantree and Angsana this group, I wish this group become better with each passing day.
I always want to go Banyan Tree Hangzhou since it was opened 10 years ago as it is one of luxury resort in China. Finally got the chance this year, however it was abit old and tired now. The villa, the reception area and building shows signs of worn out and swimming pool was actually closed for renovation. The overall resort was designed with classic Hangzhou elements and style which is nicely executed. I stayed in deluxe room it was big and with indoor jacuzzi. It was good but not very impressive. Guess if you stay in villa it will be more unique. Breakfast quality was so so. The location is in xixi reservation area near the swamp. It is quite and near nice area of water. However note this area is abit far away from train station.
This hotel only have 60 rooms located in a very quiet place, very much Chinese traditional style, big room with all garden view. Price is dear and service is good, the breakfast is boring without many offer, but the western lunch is very very good. I think it's for a short weekend break is good, 2 nights is maximum as nothing to do here
I rarely review my hotel stays on Tripadvisor, but I feel a need to share my experience at Banyan Tree Hangzhou so that other travelers are aware of their ‘hospitality’. The hotel was accommodating in the change in date from 21-23 October to 11-13 November due to typhoon grounding of all flights in Hong Kong. And the service from 11 and 12 were satisfactory. The issue occurred on the last day of my stay, 13 November when the hotel hosted a wedding show. Sound checks with obnoxious LOUD volume were conducted at 7AM. My wife called front desk asking them to turn down the volume but the request fell on silent ears. The hotel should have 1) informed myself of this prior to my arrival so I can adjust my date of visit or 2) notify the guest of the potential disruption at time of check in so that proper arrangement can be made. Neither action was taken by the staff. At the time of check out, I asked Bunny, the front desk assistant manager that I would like for the General Manager, Isabella Wang about to respond to my concern via telephone or email. He promised to deliver the message and have her respond to me directly. Up till now, I have yet to receive any communication from her or anyone from the Hotel. I called the hotel the week of 28 November, requesting to speak to Isabella about my concerns. The phone reception mentioned that she has resigned and will ask the new GM to respond to me. Up till now, I have yet to receive any communication from the new GM or anyone from the Hotel. This lack of engagement and unwillingness to repair customer relationship will keep me away from any further Banyan Tree patronage. I will take my customer's loyalty to other hotel brands without association to Banyan Tree.
Great ambiance at this hotel. My family of 5 stayed in the 2 bedroom villa. Layout was a bit odd but the room was large and comfortable. Love the surroundings of the hotel and there's a shopping plaza with tons of restaurant walking distance. The hotel is located in a gated resort area. We hired a private driver during our stay which was very convenient since the location is a bit out of town.
Stayed at Banyon Tree about three to four months ago. Room was spacious and the grounds were beautiful. Enjoyed a wonderful meal at their lakeside restaurant. The hotel spa is what attracted me to this hotel and unfortunately I didn't find the experience too appealing, just a few minor attention to detail issues which really compounded against them. Giving the benefit of feedback and time I revisited yesterday and it only seems to have deteriorated. Pools were warm, only one jet was working amongst the many. The Sauna still had a small heater unable to make up for the inch wide gaps in the door and the foot wide hole in the roof. Nothing has been fixed in the previous 3 months. You should not experience cold drafts while in a Sauna... My recommendation: Have staff from other Banyan Tree's stay here to experience as a guest. Some of the simplest of issues exist which could be corrected with very little effort. The grounds are amazing though I'll be giving this one a skip next time.
