THE MADISON Hotel Hamburg

4.5 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

I stayed here 4 nights during business meetings, the hotel is quite modern and clean, service is good. I really have no complains except for the extra charges. As hotel guest the parking of your car is charged 30 euro x day, same as a normal non guest; the gym is free only until 12, I honestly arrived at 12.02 and they asked me 20 euro for the usage of the gym!!! As hotel guest this is the most expensive gym ever, of course I declined and went for a run outside. Breakfast are also quite expensive, yes plenty to choose but as I travel constantly I really find these extra charges not particularly positive. I have to say that all the charges were well explained in advance so no bad surprises, but still 20 EUR for 30 minutes on a treadmill isn't fair.

We (2 adults) stayed at The Madison for two nights. This is a high quality hotel that feels both modern and comfortable. We had a business suite with breakfast and (a limited) minibar included. The room was clean and well maintained, had a nice bed, and a very nice bathroom. No view to speak of, but that didn't make a difference for us. Dinner at the restaurant was OK, nothing special. There are a number of restaurants close by to explore instead. Breakfast buffet was quite good. Service in the restaurant and the reception was very friendly. Location is obviously very good. Parking was available in a garage under the hotel - very convenient.

The Madison is a centrally located modern hotel providing a consistent good service, however, I wouldn't consider it to be extravagant. Rooms are comparably large, clean, nicely decorated and offer a small kitchen.

We did quite a bit of research before selecting The Madison because of the good reviews and its location. We certainly made the right choice! The hotel is located a block from the waterfront, easily accessible to the Elbiphilharmonie, waterfront walk, Minaitur City, and Speicherstadt (historic warehouse area). The Baumwall U-bahn station is only a block away, which takes you to the Altstadt and the main train station. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. Service from the hotel staff was outstanding from check-in. They conveyed a blend of courtesy, professionalism, friendliness, and warmth. The high level of service continued through our stay, especially in the restaurant where we had excellent buffet breakfasts and for a a lunch and a dinner. We recommend eating at the hotel restaurant for lunch and dinner. They offered to make reservations for us for other restaurants. The Madison had by far the best service amongst the 3 hotels we stayed at in Germany. The hotel itself is well-designed, from the lobby to our room. As a party of 3 adults, we stayed in a loft room. Spacious with modern decor. Great bathroom. Good working desk and fast wifi. Just right for us as our base in Hamburg. A nice touch was our rubber ducky "Max". One complication at the end of our stay was the G20 - demonstrations in the city shut down all taxi services. Hotel staff tried to find a taxi for us but everything was shut down. Fortunately, the nearby Baumwall U-Bahn station has elevators and we were able to get to the main train station with minimal trouble. We were very happy to choose The Madison and will return in the future.

I stayed for 4 nights at The Madison and found the whole experience absolutely excellent. The location is about a 20 minute walk into the city centre. It is close to the U Bahn. The area around the hotel is not particularly attractive but the hotel itself is great. The reception staff were very helpful to me from allowing me access to the laundry room late at night to printing a train ticket for me. The breakfast was really very good and includes freshly squeezed orange juice. I didn't use the wellness centre but it looked very good as well. The rooms here are large and most include a mini kitchen with larger than normal bar fridge and cook top. I loved my room which was quiet and a lovely sanctuary at the end of the day. The room comes with iPad which allows you to book room service online. I did this on two nights and the food was delivered within 10 minutes! I would highly recommend The Madison in Hamburg. While the city has its charm, I chose to do day trips to Schwerin and Berlin because I found Hamburg rather boring. If you are visiting this city by itself, I would think 2 days would be enough.

We stayed here for one night before joining our cruise ship. Everything was great the staff were very friendly on arrival even though it was 11.30pm the apples given tasted lovely!! They even acknowledged the fact it was our anniversary.only fault was when we asked about the best way to get to the dock we got told to get the boat across. However when we got the taxi to take us he said the best way was to get a car or walk across the bridge. Rooms very big and clean would certainly stay here again.

We checked in friday 15/9 and checked out 17/9 and it was very easy and quick. Hotel room was spacious and very nice, even with a little kitchen. Overall a very modern hotel with nice rooms,a great bar and the restaurant was also good. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a hotel with very good features and staff. It is close to the harbor area (the Elbe Philharmonie, the Miniature Wonderland, harbor boat tours) a 10-15 minute walk to the Rathaus, shopping area and the Innenn Alster. There is a U-Bahn station within 5 minute walk. So its location is very good for seeing the major sites of Hamburg. Service and staff were also very good. Breakfast was included in our room and there was an excellent selection of food. Our room was spacious, more so than hotels in Europe at the same price. Plenty of space for our 2 suitcases. The bathroom was also spacious. Room decoration was new and modern. Very well done.

We booked two single rooms that were actually double rooms. All our requirements were fulfilled. The rooms were spacious, our rate included the mini bar and complimentary water and tea/coffee in the room (water kettle, coffee maker in the room). Very comfortable beds, nice duvets, very clean. Spacious bathrooms including bathrobes. Nice toiletries. We could see St. Michael's church, the rooms were very quiet. Location only about 200m from U-Bahn "Baumwall" and about 800m easy to walk to the new Elbphilharmonie. It is about a nice 15 mins walk through the Portuguese quarter to the Harbor (Landungsbrücken) where all the sightseeing boats embark. From "Landungsbrücken" walk straight up the stairs and after about 300m you are on the famous "Reeperbahn" (Beatles square, red light district, theatres). The hotel is modern built, more classic, not quaint, situated in a quiet spot. Our rate included breakfast that offered all you can think of and need. Staff at the reception as well as in the restaurants/bar and cleaning the rooms were super friendly and efficient. All in all an excellent stay, we'd stay in that hotel again in a heartbeat. :-) . PS: Some guests might miss a spa directly in the Hotel. But Madison guests can use the Spa in the Hotel next door (believe it was a "Le Meridien"). We didn't use the Spa, so we didn't miss anything. :-)

The Madison Hotel is simply one of the nicest and well-planned hotels imaginable. It is a beautiful modern hotel with great design that is also warm and welcoming. Situated very conveniently between the Elbephilharmonie and Town Hall, it is on a lazy side Street with trees and is almost next to a little park and St. Michael's. The rooms are spacious enough, have very good lighting and great windows and are immaculate! The room hallways are partly wood paneled and each room has a light outside. These touches combined with the colorful hallway carpeting make for nice warmth. We selected the business suite package and this was wonderful- our delicious breakfasts at the hotel restaurant were included as well as the minibar. Nearby the hotel we sampled dinners from the Portuguese quarter as well as German fare on another street close to The Madison. From beginning to end the staff was kind and efficient. Parking below the hotel could not have been more convenient. Our visit to Hamburg was greatly enhanced by our stay at this wonderful hotel- we almost hated to leave!
