Staff was amazingly helpful and friendly and I greatly appreciated that everyone was multi-lingual. The room was beautiful and had every amenity provided for. My son and I had their breakfast buffet and the food was wonderful and, once again, the staff was great. The one area of this hotel that should not be missed is the spa. The pool is absolutely stunning and the atmosphere of the entire spa exudes a sense of calmness and relaxation. I would stay here again.
I stayed here on business and like most other Sofitels it's modern, clean with rooms a decent size. Location is good too as its in the middle of Hamburg and most sights, i would definitely recommend this hotel
Modern building in central Hamburg. Position perfect for business or pleasure. Our room was good for space but the sliding wardrobe doors whilst they looked ultra modern were a nuisance. In one direction they hid the shelves and the safe , if the safe was open then they collided with it as they were slid left and right, the TV always went back to Channel 1 every time it was switched on . Why? In an international hotel where guests speak many languages why doesn't the TV remain on the chosen channel. For English news we needed 16 but we had to reset it every time. The reception staff were overwhelmed most of the time with queues. Thanks to my Gold Accor card I was able to bypass this but for non members it was no joke. This Sofitel has a pretence to be 5 star but the service and the rooms are not ---our friends who stayed with us had a minute room where they could hardly squeeze out of bed to use the toilet because of the proximity of the bed to the walls.
Recently stayed here for a two night break, what a beautiful hotel! The room was perfect, a huge bed and lovely sized bathroom. We managed to use the spa a couple of times which is a must, very relaxing and nice after a day out walking! Staff were extremely friendly and helpful I was probably quite annoying with all my questions but you would never of known, staff were really happy to help! The only reason for the four rating is I would of loved to come back at night or wake in the morning to a hot drink, but no facilities are available in the room, only the mini bar. We also never managed to get the hang of the shower...every time we opened the door it flooded the bathroom (this may have just been us)! Overall of course I would stay here again!
My husband and I stayed at Sofitel Hamburg Alter Wall early June 2017 and had a great experience. We stayed on the fifth floor with a bit of a view of the canal, but the room is more about the quality than the views. The bed was amazing, covered in down comforter and feather pillows, but wasn't too hot. Beautiful bathroom and everything was fresh, very nice. Tip- make sure to get water at a grocery store before you arrive- the water they sell downstairs was 9 euro for a liter. Also slightly disappointed that the breakfast was not included for what I thought was an expensive room, they offer it downstairs and I'm sure its good but the buffet was 28+ euro per person so we went elsewhere for breakfast.
The overall impression after a few days at that Hotel is pleasant. It's near the Rathaus/Jungfernstieg and easy access to subway. Design is modern , clean lines and contemporary colors. The front desk and Spa staff were very friendly and helpful, there was no wait at check in or out and nice guidance from concierge. The breakfast set up had a few quirks - the butter was in a strange place and the intent was that it will be brought to the table as you sit down. There was not enough wait staff however. Breakfast buffet was good, but on the high price side vs other Hotels in Hamburg with a better offering. I used the hotel coffee shop on some days which is fast and makes decent coffee. It's a bit hidden - had to follow the signs. The room was good size and had pleasant colors, but by placing the "living room setting" of couch and table in front of the bed it made the room feel cramped. Desk area was very small in comparison. Bathroom was nice and spacious- I noticed the slight signs of aging other reviews mention, but it was not really an issue for me seeing a bit of water stain on natural stone tiles. Lastly I have one point of critique- the bar. It is in the middle of the entrance hall and has zero flair because it is not shielded from the remainder of the extremely large hall. Feels provisional. I rather wandered out to another bar. If you plan to have business meetings at the bar - don't stay here - everyone can hear every conversation.
The superior room is great, good bed and sufficient room. Be aware that the smaller rooms do not have a bath (despite the 5 star). The blinded curtains are just to short to close out day light unfortunate. The spa/ pool has a nice lay out. The hotel felt a bit unpersonnal, but is centrally located
Location is very central and a short walk to the main areas. Standards of furnishing in the rooms are very high spec, very comfortable and modern. Weird see through vertical window between the main room / seating area and the shower. Potentially embarrassing and no option of a blind or was of obscuring. Biggest disappointment for me was the staff. Square reception desk layout means guests are potentially darting around to find a free station when manned. Found the overall reception staffing level quite light for a busy weekend, culminating with a ridiculous queue to check out on a Sunday morning with only two stations open at what must always be a peak time for the hotel and no chance of making it to the airport despite allowing for time to check out, and no 'express check out' system. Given the high cost of the rooms this was a disappointment.
We stayed here for two nights and it was amazing. The service in this hotel is incredible for starters and staff make you feel so welcome from the moment you walk through the door. The rooms are clean and a great size. Same with the bathroom. The location of the hotel is also really good because it is right next to the train station making it easy to get around the city, and to get there from the airport. On top of this the hotels is only a few minutes walk to the centre of Hamburg and the Rathaus. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
The hotel is amazing. The rooms have a perfect size and the bathroom is incredible big. The location is next at the "Rathaus" ...it couldn't be more perfect . The restaurant has very good food and price is ok.
