The hotel is a well designed business hotel in the heart of Hamburg. So far, so good. Received a pro-active mail before arrival encouraging me to check in before arrival. Unfortunately, the mobile page was unable to complete my check in. Neither was the ACCOR app - but finally, after having entered my personal information 5 times, I managed from my computer. So what did I get in return for all my efforts? I got charged a 200€ deposit before arrival, thank you. Check in took the usual 2-3 minutes, so absolutely nothing gained. The resident bar was empty and uninspiring. Breakfast was good, but not worth the hefty price tag. Room was good, but nothing special. Won't be back.
Worst diminishing exeprience. I decided to offer my husband 2 days in Hamburg with our Accor points. (Golden Memebership). I dared to chekin at the Accor Gold member counter. Mr Brummer checked us in - very snob and told me clearly: no upgrade, no welcome drink as I am no longer a GOLD member. Upon check in a a horrible Besenkammer, no internet rights. I just did not want to spoin our Hamburg trip. No I am home and astonished to see that I am a GOLD member and was treated this way. Is it because I am colored?? it is really disappointing. See Photo attached to proof that I am gold member and was entitled to Gold member privileges. Look who is back.
Wonderful hotel must stay Near to the city Very comfortable beds Friendly staff Love their breakfast Parking is available and valet parking service is available. Some rooms have a great view to the riverside
Always our first choice in Hamburg since our first stay summer 2005, nice rooms best quality of sleeping and perfect location. Their breakfast is also worth mentioning one of the best compared to many other hotels. We will recomend this hotel to eveyone;-) Tommy & Monica
First off, the positive: - Property is OK, rooms decent, location fine. - Nice indoor pool to wind down after a day out in the cold. Biggest let down here is that the hotel does not appreciate one bit loyalty members or non of the staff are trained in what to do when a LCAH member turns up. - No loyalty welcome/greeting by front desk. - No drinks vouchers proactively offered (I had to ask for it). - When I inquired on the Platinum upgrade I was told a) No rooms available (that was a lie) b) No upgrade possible c) Person checking me in is not authorized to upgrade d) I had to ask her to get the person who was authorized to and she said he wasn't around... and so I waited. e) I hung around the lobby for 20mins and then walked up to reception again. Then the Duty manager was called and it was all solved. Room upgrade to a nice Jnr Suite was granted, drinks vouchers given, and he personally showed us to the room. f) By that evening, no welcome amenity had come. g) I inquired on it the next day and that evening we came back to the room and saw the welcome "amenity". This hotel certainly does not let you down: I heard from many fellow members that this Sofitel offers the most pathetic welcome amenities in the whole group of Sofitel properties worldwide. They were 100% right. In some Sofitels, you receive large Hermes toiletries, in others you receive a spread of macarons / chocolates, in others you receive a bottle of champagne, in others you receive a mixture of all of these items. Here at the Sofitel, you receive two bottles of lemonade which seem like drinks the hotel was not able to dispose off otherwise. Bonus was the fact that a note from the GM was addressed to a Mrs Bohnenkamp - which wasn't me. Note: Mr Westerhout, coming from a Swissotel, you probably will bring in some new fresh air. I hope you can look into LCAH procedures that Mr Felgen completely messed up. With your Zenit members coming into the AH fold, it would be a shame for them to experience a Sofitel with poor loyalty appreciation and be turned off AH properties. Good luck.
Came here early December for the Christmas markets. In my opinion its a good location, being close to two of the markets as well as near the shopping if that's your thing. We came for 4 days from London and arrived 11pm to quite a stroppy front desk person. It still amazes me why they assume a visitor knows where their room is, the bar, the breakfast room etc. Had a room on the 8th floor overlooking the railway track at the fromn tof the hotel. It was quite noisy during the night for a light sleeper but did seem to depend on the wind direction. Breakfast was great. Usual buffet style with the Saturday / Sunday very very busy presumably because of the markets. Check out at the end of the holiday the front desk was one of the nicest and pleasant people we have met. Airport is about 30 mins away by taxi EUR 30. With a nasty twist, when we arrived at the airport we discovered London was snowbound and most flights into Heathrow cancelled. We got a return flight for 2 days time. Sofitel were very good. They were able to re-accommodate us, 6th floor facing the canal. What a great room. No train!! We should have had this room first time. BUT. be careful, this floor is down a flight of steps from the lifts so you may struggle with heavy luggage or wheelchair. The recheck-in front desk actually gave us all the information we should have received first time round.
A horrible unfriendly welcome. A room (2308) on the ground floor no security. Be careful rooms might be on another level than the elevator. Watch out if you have luggage or a baby carriage. I had very high expectation as my first stay some months ago was OK. Accor missed the train of customer experience - never again. What a shame.
The hotel is very centrally located, we had a double room,it was so small, the desk was against the window so I had a hard time reaching the curtains to draw them at night. There was a bedside small drawer but this had a bottle of room service wine in it. It would have been useful, as space was limited to put things in. 1 drawer, just too cramped. Also had to ask for body lotion which in a hotel of this calibre should have been provided automatically. None the next day, just couldn’t be bothered to keep asking. Sofitel group in other countries has been superb, this was disappointing.
We stayed at the Sofitel Alter Wall over the holidays. This hotel offers spacious rooms, a small but nice and cozy Spa and Wellness area, great breakfast, friendly and professional staff. A great place to stay with all the needed bells and whistles.
We booked 2 nights in a luxury room. Second stay in this hotel but this time for holiday. The pros: The bed is simply great. The view on the canal and the high floor. The design of the room, elegant and modern. The staff of the bar and the quality of the cocktails made the experience a very nice moment. The cons: Reception always seems to have difficulty managing all the people checking in and out at the same time. People queuing and waiting in the lobby is never very “welcoming”. The concierge was particularly not helpful when we asked for some recommendation for a Portuguese restaurant. Answer was something like ‘ I dont know, try this street there are many Portuguese restaurants’ .
