This is a very nice and clean hotell in the heart of Hamburg. Nice rooms to relax in and a spa to re-fresh in after a day in the city. The breakfast is great! They serve everything you can wish for including champagne. The hotel has a central location close to nice restaurants and shopping.
The staff was very helpful and the room and the bed is first class. The hotel is centrally located. The location was near good restaurants and shopping. The breakfast buffer is one of the best I ever had.
Location is supreme! Easy to access all locations and taxis are ok priced. Hotel has nice spa area but might get crowded too easily. Service is great and fast. Excellent concierge service level. Parking is easy and convenient. One big minus is lack of electricity sockets in the room next to the bed. Other than that very nice place to stay and totally recommend this place.
The hotel is really nice looking and decorated in a modern style without being too unconventional. Lobby is huge and impressive, rooms are clean and well designed, some of them with a canal view. The bathrooms are very nice too, everything seems to be new. I am assuming they have a nice breakfast too but I haven’t tried since it was not included in the rate and I didn’t want to spend too much for it (25 euros). The position in the heart of Hamburg is an additional positive characteristic.
The hotel is great but the people in the reception area are not friendly at all, it took us 30 min to check out :(. beside that great rooms, we got room 5012 beautiful views and awesome bathroom I will recommend if you can pass the reception people :)
the Sofitel Alter Wall is very convenient for the city of Hamburg. But the service has not been what it used to be Sofitel. This time a que for 20 minutes to check in that is not 5* Sofitel, come on you can do better. The rooms ...............not ready as usual. Why are the rooms never ready? Short of (cheap) staff. Come on Sofitel if your service is not improving....................forget it we won't come back.
The outside might seem like an anonymous pile of bricks but inside you'll find a stylish, modern, clean and friendly hotel. The staff are great. The Junior Suite was spacious, attractive, comfortable and silent. The bed was large and sooo comfortable - I slept like a log. Plump towels. Ample supply of top notch (Hermes) toiletries. Good shower. Generously sized bath. Nice bar. Decent location. Good value (especially as I was upgraded following an issue with my smaller room on the first night). The basic room was ok - smaller (obviously) and only basic toiletries - but if you can upgrade, do. For a business trip, it was perfect. Would I stay again? Definitely - whether on a business trip or a weekend away. PS also had a genuinely fantastic Negroni in the bar.
New(ish) central hotel, right on the river and a very short walk from the S-Bahn station (Stadtbrucke) straight from the airport. Seems like a nice part of town. Arrived at 2.40pm on a Saturday afternoon. Took 10 minutes to get to the check-in desk. Was told that my room wasn't ready but should be ready at 3pm. Went for a drink in the cafe, came back at 3.10pm. 2 staff members doing check-in with queues of 6 people each at least. Every time I got to ask, was told "another 10 mins". Queues were at least 6 deep for the next hour as it seemed to take 10 mins to check each person in. Finally got into my room at 4pm after 1 hour 20 of lining up and being told 10 mins. Meant I was late to meet friends. Some honesty would be more useful - just tell me the room won't be ready for an hour and I'll go away rather than getting more and more annoyed with the dreadful process. I stay in a lot of hotels and have never not been able to check in at the actual check in time advertised. Room was fine. Nice view of the river. Clean. Comfy bed. I'm sure if you don't arrive at changeover time on a weekend you would be impressed. The other weird thing was there are about 6 steps at the start of the corridor to the room from the lift on the floor I stayed in. Awkward if you have a wheelie case - surely everyone does now? Seems strange for a fairly new hotel.
I am still staying in Sofitel Hamburg, but first impression is very good. But still already two things are not so good: very soft bed, far too soft. And this morning I have been calling to reception to ask a dental kit and during 30 minutes no answer. That is not good at all. Check-in was very polite but quite slow. Room facing channel is nice and spacious, with a balcony to the water side. Soundproof is not good as I have heard a telephon conversation from the next room, not only sounds but words as well!! Hotel is fortunately not busy at the moment, so it is quiet in the room, but I imagine the noise when the hotel is full. You can clearly hear thru the wall. Breakfast is good.
This is the only Sofitel I have stayed in where the Internet access was slow and unresponsive. The staff recognise the issue as they had other complaints but obviously felt powerless to solve the problem. It was the classic issue of large organisations where the headquarters were responsible but unresponsive to local complaints. I do hope it doesn't spread to other hotels in the group as I shall soon move on elsewhere.
