I stayed at Novum during ITB 2018. I stayed here 3 - 10th march - it was windy and cold outside and the hotel was great always heated and warm. They served complimentary tea and pastry at 4:00 pm which i found really cute. The breakfast buffet is great - just dont expect a custom omelette :) . U need to pay a ten euro refundable deposit to use the boiler . Water in room is charged at 4 euros , hence id suggest to get ur own water on the way :). The bed is cosy , a single occupancy is good for one. Wifi isnt the best hence dont expect to download large files. Theres a gas station opposite the hotel 5 mins walk and a great steakhouse opposite side 7 mins by walk. Its about 7 euros to get to the exhibition center and about 25 euros to get to the center near beir garten. Berlin mall is 15 min drive - hence i do think the location was not too bad. Overall hotel staff was very warm. Its old school hence u deposit ur key at the reception when u leave. People speak english .

I stopped one night in Hamburg for a business travel at the hotel, if I would not have been exhausted I would have left. The room was small and cramped, the carpet was full of stains and dust (I have asthma so that was pretty bad) and simply the whole facilities are old and falling appart. It needs refurbishment badly.

Clean comfortable hotel ideally situated opposite Central station with plenty of shops and restaurants in the vicinity. Ideal for a few days stay but various things could be improved like bedside lighting which in the case of a double bed runs the whole length of the headboard on a single switch instead of separate lights and switches either side. Breakfast is adequate continental fare with just scrambled egg as the hot option. Overall it's fine if you just want something simple cheap and central for a few days.

We are staying at this little Hotel regularly for many years when we travel to Hamburg. The last stay was very disappointing. It seems they employ part time staff and all of them are foreigners. This creates a situation that you don't feel you are in Germany and the staff is not particularly interested in the guests. Some were rude, others not knowledgeable and all of them were totally disinterested in the hotel and its guests. The worst was not having a landline anymore. Being on a world trip, having old age relatives we rely on a landline. What a drama to use a cellphone of the hotel! The rooms and breakfast were good, as we were used to before.

Having stayed twice previously arrived after 36 hours travel to find I had been put in a hotel down the road. This despite having been in communication directly with the hotel up to five days before hand about the reservation and had received confirmation from the Kronprinz. The alternative hotel was inferior and no apology was given. Going online I found a $53 difference in the room rates but no compensation was offered. No management staff were available to speak to and could not be contacted. Those staff on duty were impotent. The substitute hotel had only one exit in case of a fire and people in a wheelchair or pram would be unable to escape. Despite emailing Novum customer services there has been no response from them so I am forced to use this medium.

My husband, son and I stayed in a triple room and found this hotel perfect for a few days break in Hamburg. I was initially concerned about the position directly opposite the train station as often in big cities the area is not a good one with seedy elements. However not the case here, it was fantastic arriving in the rain to literally walk directly across the road from the station to the hotel. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Our room was large, clean and comfortable with the wifi working well. The window could be opened for fresh air. We faced a back alley so had no noise issues. Perhaps if noise is a concern you should request a rear window although saying that it was not as busy on the front road as I had anticipated it would be. The breakfast room did get very busy and about 8am there was a queue forming so perhaps if you have a larger group and the hotel is full try to go earlier or later to breakfast. The buffet was excellent. There are plenty of restaurants around but we also ate at the train station which had restaurants and a large food hall. For value, comfort and convenience I highly recommend this hotel.

Love Hamburg. Hotel excellent location across from Hauptbahnhof( main railway station). Room for one had two beds pushed together. Strange that shower stood right at the door. Separate wc however. Breakfast was good, usual Deutsche choice, decent coffee and friendly staff . Would definitely stay again. Across at the station it's a proper shopping centre. Lots of great food outlets and good shops. Hamburg is a great city, look forward to returning.

Stayed here with my husband last December on a short break to visit the Christmas markets. On arrival by train from the airport, the hotel is situated directly across from the central train station and is within 10 walk from the Rathaus and the main shopping areas. There is u-bahn access within 2 mins if travelling further around the city. We had a triple room which was a good size with a large bathroom. The room decor was dated but was very clean. Breakfast buffet was adequate, all the usual hot and cold fare. My only complaints were that at peak times the buffet area became very congested which made it difficult to get to the food and the tables are very close together, which makes it hard to get around with your tray. The staff in the hotel were friendly. I was concerned that because the hotel is beside the train station that the area would be a bit doggy but it was fine. The immediate street has a nice selection for restaurant which are very popular with the theatre going crowds. The streets behind the hotel are a bit seedy. This hotel was ideal for our needs and was value for money. Would stay here again on a short break.

I have stayed here before, and the hotel has several things going for it: mainly location and price. My advance purchase price was once again excellent. The location of the hotel also suited us very well, as we had to catch trains quite a bit, and being just across from the Hauptbahnhof made things so much simpler. For the price, the breakfast is fine, and the hotel is also clean enough. My main frustration with the hotel this time was trying to get in touch to ask for a specific room-type. I prefer not sleep in rooms where the windows face into a light shaft. The booking site didn't allow me to make a room request, and so I tried to email directly. However, if there was an email address hidden on the hotel website, I couldn't find it. So I tried to ring twice - once from Australia before we left, and once from the UK shortly before we arrived. I seemed to get stuck on the line to the overall hotel chain management, and they were extraordinarily rude, and distressingly so. Of course, once I got to the hotel, there was no record of any request from me, and no room at the front of the hotel with a window that faced outside available. Added to that was the fact that the room we were given was dreadfully hot, even though the heating was off. I just don't get it; it was January - how did that happen? We opened the window onto the light-well, just to get a bit of fresh air into the room. There were also a few other minor issues with the room. Fortunately, and to their credit, we were moved for the next two nights into a room with a view of the Bahnhof. This felt much better. The rooms are not flash; they are OK for the price. Despite the efforts of the staff to improve our experience by changing our rooms, it wasn't enough to make me want to come back here.

We booked through Thomas Cook and for the price this hotel is good. Our room was big and comfortable and warm, without being as stifling as some places we had encountered on our German adventure. The bathroom was enormous and kitsch - the tiles were very dated but fun. The bath was deep, and a relief after the small shower cubicles we had squeezed into elsewhere. Plenty of hot water. Breakfast was fine, enough choice and turn over, no idea about a previous reviewers comment about eggs "from a carton" - I didn't expect the hen to be sitting on the table waiting for me? Sadly we only got to sample it on one of our two days, thanks to the deplorable TAP airlines amending our 12.45 return flight to 06.00... Luckily the position of the hotel meant a three minute walk from the door to the platform where the train whisked us off to the flughafen. As well as the convenience for the station, it's easy to walk to the main shopping area (through the station), and down to the centre. We walked all the way to Miniatur Wonderland, and caught a bus back that dropped us right outside the hotel. Plenty of good local restaurants, we tried two and enjoyed both. Safe was free (€15 deposit), staff were friendly and helpful - their English was perfect too, the single lift can take a while during busy periods. I thoroughly recommend this hotel for a break in Hamburg.
