We really enjoyed our stay at the NH Hamburg City hotel. Best part: big spacious rooms with comfortable beds, decorated somewhat minimalistic. Personally I like this feauture and it also resembles other NH hotels I have tried out. Staff are nice and eager to satisfy their customers. We didn't try their breakfast and a lot of other things the hotel has to offer so I can't leave an opinion about that. Location is very good, close to two different metro stations, the Hamburg Messe and right opposite the Heiligengeistfeld where the Hamburg Dom is (amusementpark). You can easilly stroll to downtown Hamburg and the Jungfernstieg in about 15 minutes. The hotel is also situated at the edge of Schanzenviertel, wchich, according to me, is a fascinating area with a lot of nice bars and restaurants, but the area itself is perhaps a little worn out (in a charming way I should point out).
The hotel is very modern and very clean. It is only 5 minutes’ walk away from two U-Bahn stations (Messehallen and Feldstrabe, the latter having a lift), although they look much further away on google maps. 2-3 stops will get you to the Harbour or Hauptbanhhof (Central station). The Airport is an Easy/cheap journey from HBF, all covered by a single, daily or weekly Hamburg-card as well as the buses. There is very little to see/do immediately nearby the hotel apart from a few restaurants, including the excellent ‘September’ pub/restaurant, next door. They are very few shops that sell anything useful nearby. Although the ‘Reaperbahn’ is a ten minute walk away and has plenty of action, it is pretty seedy of course. The Botanical Garden is within walking distance too. I would say that the hotel is in a relatively quiet area. However, unfortunately there is a large fairground (called Dom) opposite the hotel, which is open three times a year (Easter, summer and Christmas). The rooms double glazing does not completely exclude the pumping music which goes on until at least 11.00-11.30pm. Many of the hotel rooms are spacious suites with hard-wood floors and trendy white decor. You get a mini bar, which is of course a little over-priced, a Nespreso (coffee making) machine and a kettle. Three Tea bags are provided daily, but are often a bit weak for British tastes. Three coffee pods are also provided. There is Air Con in the rooms but the windows can actually be opened, which is refreshing if you can pardon the pun. The linen was high quality and the beds very comfortable. The room had a good range of controllable lighting. The large TV lacked programmes in English apart from world news, but hey it is Germany after all. On-demand English movies would be useful or DVD’s for rent. The shower room was very modern and spacious. The toilet paper felt a bit cheap but the shower products were very nice. The breakfast was excellent with both hot items and many continental items, including a real honeycomb. Although the hot buffet items could be lukewarm. There was a cappuccino machine. Try to get an inclusive rate and breakfast will work out cheaper. Waiter Amil looked after us well. If fact all the staff were very proficient and helpful, speaking good English. There was a small bar at reception, but I’d go to ‘September’ next store for a beer. There is a Mac computer in the foyer for printing boarding passes etc. The hotel has free wi-fi. I’d totally recommend this hotel as it is half the price of those in prime locations, but probably of a better standard.
Stayed at the hotel in March 2018. Room on 5th floor was clean and modern, if a little small. Was pleased with the Nespresso in the room! Journey from the airport was easy with a change at Hauptbahnhof and then onto the U3. Hotel was easy to find from Feldstraße station. We headed to the Altona cruise port at check out, with an easy 15 minute taxi ride costing 15 euros. Walk into central Hamburg took around 15/20 minutes, so easily done.
Spacious room, large bathroom, tidy, ample coffee and tea choices, fabulous location that was convenient to cafes, walkable to the city centre if you have the time! I stayed across the road from the Hanburger Dom and there was not even a peep squeak to be heard from the carnival.
stayed in this hotel for my business trip. I must say this hotel provides excellent value for money. Room sizes are on smaller side however as a single person on a business trip it didn't bother me. The breakfast provided is amongst the best in this category of hotels. Well done and keep up the good work.
Big and clean rooms with workspace andfree WiFi. Very friendly and service minded staff. Breakfast was superb with lot's of choices. Perferct start to the day. Located about 500m from the Hamburg Messe, and within walking distance of many good restaurants.
This is a lovely hotel, great location and very helpful staff. Very clean and lovely chilled out atmosphere. Staff were very helpful. There are many things tp do in this city. Room sizes vary. Our room was quite small but did the job very well. Our friend's room was huge. Breakfast was ridiculously expensive so we avoided it. We went to a local place only 5 - 10 minutes walk away and was delicious. Would highly recommend you to stay at this hotel.
As the title says what more could you want... We stayed for a three night trip ...on arrival our room wasn’t ready but was offered a suite for an additional €15 per night which we accepted...the room was on the 6th floor and had everything we needed from a safe to hairdryer and robes ....the only disappointment was the twin beds would have preferred a double but in saying that they were comfy....room was cleaned daily to a great standard The reception staff were fantastic very a accommodating friendly helpful and always had a smile... The hotel was perfect in location on a road with a few pubs and restaurants (really nice restaurant next door called September ) it was a ten min walk to Reeperbahn and a five min walk to the underground...from the airport we caught two trains to get to the hotel and was really easy.... Great hotel great service and great location
Besides the nice and welcoming staff, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, very suitable for us, family with two small kids. The breakfast was great and the kids corner next to the Lobby a good idea. Definitely will come back to this hotel.
Three night business trip for two. Location: The hotel is located near local attractions and services. It’s only a 15 minute walk into the main city shopping area. I can’t comment on other transport links, however it’s a 15 - 20 minute taxi ride (€25-€27) from Hamburg airport. The area is quiet, we occupied a room on the rear of the hotel, hardly heard a thing. The area is by no means unpleasant, but not as “up market” as the city centre. I was informed that there is a local “hip area” called Schulterblatt nearby with bars and cafes where the locals hang out, but we didn’t visit. There is a grocery store a few minutes walk from main reception and a 10 minute walk turning right out of main reception leads to a shopping mall with a variety of deli style eateries and supermarkets. There are several bars and small cafes around the hotel for those that don’t wish to walk into town. Can’t comment on quality, we didn’t frequent these establishments. More variety can be found in town. Welcome: A warm welcome was received on arrival. Check-in was smooth and we received a room upgrade. Which was welcome. Being January the hotel was very quiet. A small bar, computer and printer for guest use and a help yourself to cucumber infused water area was situated next to reception. We met a chap called Ricardo on reception when we checked out. He was very friendly and full of useful information. Room: We occupied room 325, accessible by two lifts near main reception. The room was large, spacious and well set out with a distinctive modern decor. The bathroom was large and the shower was excellent. Storage space was excellent as well as the tea and coffee making facilities provided by a kettle and Nespresso machine. Toiletries are provided and an excellent hairdryer (salon standard) that will keep any bouffant in good order. A minibar is provided, but the shops offer more variety at much reduced prices, if you’re not on business expenses. A 40” flat screen TV, which spins from a comfy seating area to the bedroom area is also available. Although the choice of English language tv is limited to news. Some on demand movies TV in English would be welcome. But hey, it’s Germany! Bed was a large king size, nice sheets and pillows. We didn’t use the hotel food service, so can’t comment on that aspect. The room had a large useful safe deposit box. The window can also be opened, nice touch for those that enjoy fresh air at night. There was a good range of lighting, and plenty of power points, particularly useful to have one each side of the bed. Blackout is also very good. Many hotels suffer a degree of light pollution, from internal room sources and from external sources. Not here, it’s dark and quiet. The standard WiFi was simple to login, and very fast and stable. FaceTime conversations with the U.K. were flawless. In contrast U.K. hotels WiFi at this speed is rare. We could learn a thing or two from out German friends! Only issue: We enjoyed our stay and would recommend and return. The only issue was. The left hand side of our bed sloped, due to a worn or faulty mattress. Reception sent up a technician to address the issue. However they only spun the mattress, which moved the problem from the left of the bed to the right. Replacing the mattress is required. More attention to detail like this is necessary. So I would advise management to test the bed in room 325, get a feel for the problem and rectify. The bed is a very critical aspect of any hotel stay, it needs constant attention. We enjoyed our stay and enjoyed Hamburg. It’s a lovely city with lots to do. Work prevented too much play. But we will return soon and will book direct with this hotel. So book with confidence, I have high standards, this hotel met them, you’ll be happy here.
