Mercure Hotel Hamburg Mitte4.0 out of 5.0

Typical Mercure with the usual stylish design. I checked in at 1pm and my room was not ready yet as they usually have them ready at 3. But the nice receptionist called housekeeping and they started working on it right away. Room itself a little smallish. I booked a single though. The mattress was one piece, no crack in the middle or two beds put together like in some reports. However, they put two small duvets on top instead of one large one. Wifi was okay and the room had safe, small fridge (empty mini bar) and shower only (no bathtub). Temperature was good. TV difficult to use as in so many hotels, slowly switches from one channel to the next. They have the most obscure channels from Dubai but no CNN! Breakfast was included in my rate but I would not have payed 20 Euros for it. No Asian choices like miso soup or full English bf with mushrooms available. Walk in rate for single room was 110 Euros, a little overpriced. I payed 43 online, so I I have no reason to complain. Receptionist at check out again very friendly and efficient. Would come again, if the price is right. Not a real four star for me (where is the piano bar, swimming pool...) but better than average three star, so a 3,5 for me. Caters moer to the business crowd than to tourists, was my impression. Biggest reason not to book is the connection to public transport for me. If you have big luggage, it is really hard to walk from any of the stops. The hotel is right on front of a tv tower and the trade fair. It is a 15 minute walk to any of the train/subway stations Dammtor, Schlump and Messehallen. I tried them all and timed them. Too close to take a taxi but too far to walk with lots of suitcases.
I stayed at this hotel for four nights. I checked in online and was assured that I would have access to my room when i came to the hotel. When I arrived it was not yet ready. Things like this happens so we went into town. But this was only the beginning! I then got a text that our room key was ready so we returned to the hotel, but the guy in the reception told me that the room wasnt yet ready. Finally at 3 pm we got the room. Being an accorhotel goldmember I expected better service than this. When we got to the room it was really small and the bed was a queen bed (that is ok for one person, but not for two). It had only two pillows and one blanket so I assumed we got a single room, but it turned out two be a room for two! We had to ask for another blanket and that came, but I also asked for an upgrade to a room with a larger bed, again being a gold member, but was told that the hotel was fully booked. It was only for the two of us to squeeze into that tiny bed. Last time I stayed at this hotel four years ago it had a relax area and a gym. Now this was gone. The guy in the reception was new and didnt know anything about that and had not any suggestions where to work out. When we finally was about to check out the girl in the reception told us that the room wasn't fully paied although it was. Now i really snapped. Finally the manager came and found the payment and they appologized for that. Conclusion: In this hotel you don't feel any special treatment at all. The sign outside states its a 4 star hotel. I've stayed at ibis-hotels (2-3 star hotels) with better service and larger rooms and beds than this Mercure hotel. 3 stars the most I say! Here you pay alot for nothing! The only thing that was really splendid was the service in the breakfast room and the staff there is really nice. But... I will not stay at this hotel ever again!
To be honest, if you let me in to this hotel without telling me what it was and which star rating it had, I would've thought it was a 3-star with poor customer service. The staff at the reception desk looked like they couldn't be bothered to go through the most basic motions of check in (rolling eyes to my question about wifi access), the room had a dinghy feel about it, with one relatively small and very thin duvet on the bed, multiple dirty streaks on the walls (luggage?), small bathroom with a shower cabin requiring touching up... I honestly did not expect this kind of ambience from Mercure.
Hotel is nice, I just loved marine style decoration of lobby with super comfortable armchairs. Our room was quite small, I was expecting bigger one. Wi-Fi connection is very low, barely could load a web page.
Stayed here overnight on the way to Berlin. Some staff were great, others...well... The room was spacious and well appointed. First exposure to a double being two singles pushed together, no top sheet and single quilts. We had dinner there - staff were happy and smiling, food good. Over the road afterwards to Planten und Blomen (?) for the water light show. Word of warning if driving - the underground carpark is tiny and entry / exit is tricky. Apart from that - very comfortable.
Mercure Hotel Hamburg Mitte is a modern and very stylish hotel in the heart of Hamburg City. Rooms are quite spacious, clean and modern decorated. Underground parking available. Breakfast is ok, quality is good but selection limited.
I stayed in a standard room and while the general look and feel of the hotel is nice and clean, the room itself was a little aged. You could see the textiles and walls had taken some hits, and the bathroom was a little worn. Not the worst, but not great either when you consider it is a 4-star hotel with quite expensive rates. The location is great, however, with trainstation close by. Service was efficient but nothing special. Breakfast buffet was really good quality with lots to choose from.
Stayed for a short city break. Lovely room, clean, comfortable, large bed. Coffee machine was great. Breakfast excellent range of items, hot and cold. Pity they don't do dinner, but that said it made us go out and find a local place to eat which was also good. Easy access to the city centre.
Well located as we could walk around easily and grab great food around and shopping, decent rooms with nice bed and clean design, nice staff and helpful with all enquiries, well connected as close to a metro station
Verry dissapointing according to Mercure standards. It seems that it is an old Ibis rebranded Mercure. The room was really small, the beds also. We were 2 in the room, but the storage wasn't enough nore for one. The pillows are probably the cheapest you can find, and the matress also. There is a problem with breakfast, very crowded between 9 to 10 a.m., even there is a warning about this in the elevator. So, probably the room is too small for the hotel capacity. Otherwise, position is good, the area is quiet, the service is more than ok.
