Great hotel, great restaurant, great service! What more can I say? Platinum status recognized at check-in, as was repeat visitor. Upgraded to lake front room. Really can't say enough good things...will be back!
The le Meridien in Hamburg is a great hotel and definitely five star in terms of facilities, comfort and cleanliness. But I didn't feel it was of the same standard as their properties we have stayed at in Bangkok and New Dehli. On first walking into our room, we both thought WOW, really nice room and so well decorated, but once we had spent some time in the room, I found that the details were great, but some of the bigger things were missing - more focus on aesthetics, with functional as a secondary concern. The room we had had a great view of the city (away from the lake) and we had our own balcony which was quite sizable. The bed was big and comfortable, and the shower was amazing - the TV sound was even piped to the bathroom. However, the lighting is extremely poor - there are unsufficient light fittings, none are bright and it is impossible to make the room bright. The hotel is located far enough away from the train station that the area seems quite good, and has a great location on the lake. The area to the right of the front door is really good, but further towards the station isn't as great. There is no public transport directly outside, but there is a bus stop a couple of blocks back and you can walk to the station. The breakfast room was smaller than I expected, but they had a good selection of small plates, which was refreshed as soon as things were finished. The cold fish selection and pastries were both amazing and really tasty, as were the frikkadels and omlettes. But the bread selection left me wanting, and the croissants were a bit overcooked. Unfortunately after six nights, the choice was getting a bit tired and I felt I had eaten the same thing for breakfast a few times - the same options were availale everyday without any rotation. The breakfast room/restaurant has mood lighting, but this makes it extremely dark. This wasn't too much of a problem in the eating area, but the area where the buffet is served was too dark to be able to see what you were taking - I resorted to using my cellphone torch to see what I taking. The views from the breakfast room, restaurant and bar are from the 9th floor, over the lake - great views no matter the weather. Staff were all efficiently and helpful. WIFI was free and quite fast, good enough even for video streaming - this was necessary as the TV channel selection wasn't great for non-German visitors.
Came for New Year's Eve. Booked months and months ago... Only came for the top floor glass gallery where we planned to watch fireworks. That didn't happen as there was a private party. Cannot fathom why we were not told or offered a chance to book in... First we knew was reading a last-minute print out left in room (nice welcome). I complained about this and staff genuinely couldn't care less. Service was an issue throughout stay and bearing in mind we had come from Berlin intercontinental where service was immaculate we were in a position to compare. Room was not that comfortable (hard floors)... Bathroom was pleasant but sink was weirdly low (like being back at primary school!). Pool was small but pleasant... hot-tub was however tiny... There is nothing abysmal about hotel but equally nothing tremendous or even remarkable. I would spend my cash next time (and we will be back to Hamburg) on a more established brand with service at its core. If the hotel wants to comment on the NYE issue I would recommend the manager contacts me directly (room 314) rather than posts some bland comment about how much you love all your customers and that you're sorry etc
We were here for just one night. But definitely not for the last time. In short: everything was just pictureperfect. Chek-In, room, restaurant and bar, not one point to complain about. We're quite often in Hamburg. To us it's quite sure were we during future visits will book our accommodation.
My husband planned this dinner for our anniversary and it was a really great surprise overall. It started off a bit rocky though, as the server brought our drinks but didn’t give us actual menus or take away the additional place settings. She then left and we could not flag her down again. Turned out, there was a miscommunication and while the reservation was for two, somehow the staff thought we were four (on our anniversary?) so we waited about 35 minutes, looking at the servers and politely smiling at them and waving to get their attention before we actually had someone come over and figure out we were not waiting for anyone else and wanted menus. Luckily the food we ordered was great, so we enjoyed the rest of the evening very much, though it was a bit slow for my taste. We didn’t have time for dessert because we’d been at the restaurant over three hours (with the delay at the beginning, and the time it took between our first and second courses) and had plans to meet friends in town. Unfortunately, this soured my overall experience of the restaurant, but I cannot really fault them as the beginning was a misunderstanding internally apparently, and the delay in between dishes was likely because it was busy and they were trying to give people the full experience of having tables for the evening and relaxing. I appreciate not being rushed, but an hour plus in between courses was a bit too slos for us! I’d highly recommend this place if you have the time for a full evening of food and are looking for very good, well presented European cuisine (not specifically German). Otherwise, there are a lot of great places around Hamburg that are worth a visit as well.
- awesome view - great breakfast - poor service during check-in - not enough light in the room - broken lights in the room - the bose sound system was iphone 4 docking station in reality i expected more of this hotel
Overlooking the water, this hotel is a pleasant place to stay but it's starting to show signs of aging. The spa is good, albeit pricey, and the staff are friendly and professional. The bar at the top of the hotel offers up great views of the waterfront and city skyline, but it's not what one would call cosy. The choice of whiskey was outdone by their horrible choice of music....head banging rave type music which is not what one expects at a "classy" hotel bar. I finished my drink and left post haste. Would I stay again? Probably not.
We've been in Hamburg on December 23, 2017. Our room was upgraded to Suite 917..:-) Thank you Le Meridien Hamburg team...:-) Very friendly personell at check-in. I am an ambassador platinum level SPG member and stayed in 62 different hotels this year. There are not many hotels which can match this level of service and friendliness and responsiveness. The way the room was presented to us was very cute. Only regret is, that we only stayed for one night... A tremendous view overlooking the Alster with huge windows. The breakfast was great the next morning. Fresh German bread, fresh juice, Yoghurt... Merry Christmas and happy new year to the Hotel team and all future clients a magical stay as ours...
The rooms are quite big, the view is great, especially if you book a room with a view over the Alster Lake. The cleaning comes very late, so some days not at all if you’re at the room in the afternoon... The bar also has an amazing view and cocktails. The spa is very nice, however be aware that in Germany you dont wear bathing suits/ pants in sauna and few even go naked in the pool... Think its a culture not all are aligned with...
The hotel is close to the train station and shops/restaurant near the Alster. After a late check-in, which proved to be a little difficult because we didn’t bring the credit card used to make the booking, we were informed that the hotel had upgraded us to a suite. Great stuff. The room was spacious and well appointed: the bed and pillows were comfortable; the shower had good water pressure; and the balcony, which was actually quite large, provided a nice view of the skyline. Drinks and nibbles in the Heritage bar (open until 1am) were pretty decent. Would definitely stay here again.
