Hotel Vorbach

3.5 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

Both cab drivers were surprised that we were staying here and not at the typical tourist hotels. Down the block from the University it often hosts college professors and locals. We have stayed here for the past several trips to Hamburg, the last being three years ago, (see my review,) and prefer it to the upscale hotels we have stayed at in the past. Since we stay for a week or ten days we want a home not a hotel room and Vorbach provides that if you ask for it. My wife and I actually rent two of the flats on the top floor so that we mainly have it to ourselves. This time we rented all three and it was great having the whole floor. We converted the smaller studio into our work out room, we have an office, a nice kitchen and two living rooms, one with a balcony. This might be extreme but since we are both working we need our space and the very reasonable room rates make this comparable to an upscale hotel. We do not eat the breakfast as it is not very good, although the eggs are fine. We prefer to make our own and we buy our food at Al Natura the health food store and enjoy breakfast at home. Staying here, you have all the benefits of the campus, which is quiet, and side streets filled with small restaurants and shops. Just a few blocks and you are at the Alstersee with miles of walking along the water with green meadows and ponds filled with ducks. Adirondeck chairs are scattered around along with benches if you don't wish to sit on the lush green grass, or jog to a cafe afterwards. Staying here you can actually walk to downtown, the pedestrian mall, and the streets filled with high end shops and yet live in a quiet leafy neighborhood. The hotel is made up of several interconnecting town houses. They range from just a bedroom to a fully furnished two bedroom apartment with kitchen, living room and great bath tubs. We stay at number 69, which is the last building that is part of Vorbach. It still is mainly inhabited by long term locals, but the top floor is part of the hotel and more like an apartment house than a hotel. One caveat: the small elevator only goes up to the floor below the top, so it does take walking up the last flight of stairs. For check in or check out the women who run the hotel are happy to help carry the luggage.

Great Hotel, excellent service and breakfast!! very helpful staff. Situated in a very nice area, close to Hamburg center. The room was spacy enough, reception was operated 24 hours and all staff was very eager to answer to any questions or provide assistance

I stayed in this hotel for two weeks and very much enjoyed the helpful staff and the wonderful breakfasts. The hotel does not have a restaurant for lunch or dinner, but the lobby bar is great for meeting people. My room was spacious and comfortable and I appreciated the great shower. The only problem was that I couldn't adjust the heat and it was always too warm or too cold if I opened the window.

I had booked a room for 2 weeks, and to happily find out that it was upgraded, so i cant comment on my expectations, since i got a better room than i expected. Positives: Really friendly employees, great location(close to Dammtor station), my room was really clean. Negatives: Wifi was really bad, taking about less than a 1M, i paid for extra high speed, and went to 2M. I would have liked if it had a fitness room (gym room). Some rooms arent reachable via elevator, you need to go 3rd floor and then move 1 floor via the stairs (which is fine for me, but maybe not for others). Chairs were a little uncomfortable when using laptop.

We were looking for something outside the Center, but close enough for easy transporation to tourist attractions. Some five good restaurants within five minutes walk if you don't want to go further. The hotel was very clean and nice, quiet and enough room for a couple. Glutenfree bread available at breakfast. Only reason not 5 was that there was “no extra treats“ in the room.

The hotel has a location close to the University of Hamburg and the important Damtor station. It has a classic style, with spacious rooms, with a lot of privacy and an extended breakfast schedule. The attention and service would be good

Located in the Rotherbaum neighborhood of Hamburg and within walking distance of Hamburg University and the CCH trade fair grounds the Vorbach combines several 19th century villas in quiet Johnsallee. The rooms vary quite widely in size and character so it is useful to inquire beforehand. All of them, however, will have the necessary functionality and a certain charm and can hence provide a good alternative in this price segment to chain-hotels with their unsurprising middle-of-the road features. Overall good service, although the front desk continues to show room for improvement. Very charming breakfast room with invariably good, even personalized service.

The two nights we stood at this hotel where a real pleasure! Everything worked fine, the huge room was superb, the breakfast (extra) was rich and the service was very good, Everything was clean and shining,

This hotel is located at a street corner, very near the Von-Melle Park of the University of Hamburg, the Dammtor Station and the Congress Center of Hamburg. I was given a corner room that was huge, with a high ceiling and has a great view. Unfortunately, there is no air conditioning. Hence, you hear the street noise at night, as you are forced to keep the windows open. But the bed, pillows and blankets are exceptionally soft and comfortable. The hotel has a quaint breakfast room on the second floor and a bar on the ground floor but no restaurant. But, there are many restaurants in the area. Around the corner of the street is a little grocery store and, a little farther is a great Italian restaurant.

I stayed here while on a business trip to Hamburg University as it is next to the campus. It is a charming old hotel with character and bizarrely numbered rooms (listen carefully when they tell you which floor you are on because you won't work it out from your room number!) There's a little lift down the stairwell. I decided to walk up the stairs - and then realised just how many stairs there are. That's because the rooms are wonderfully airy with high ceilings. The bed was comfortable and soft with those huge square German pillows you sort of fold into shape. Breakfast was continental with cereals, breads, fruit and yoghurt. You also got a boiled egg and the tea was perfect. Overall a lovely hotel and a peaceful place to relax after a day of work.
