Holiday Inn Hamburg4.0 out of 5.0

We booked a room for a night on our way to Sylt. The view to the Elbe was nice. Too bad that the carpet has lots of unidentified stains on it. This is why I always bring slippers when I travel. Breakfast was quite good. Check-in/check-out with long queues. We stayed here 3 times years ago already and it was good back then. Bus ride to Hamburg city center was easy. I hope they renovate soon.
This hotel is the smaller sister to the main Holiday Inn. It is adequate for the price. The walk for meals and to the pool in the main Holiday Inn is itself a feat but one cannot complain considering the price paid. The rooms are adequate for a short stay but not long term. Service is functional and expected, with no frills.
It is a great shame that such a clean and comfortable hotel can not offer even reasonable service with a smile at all. At breakfast I could have “snuck in” without being seated but waited honestly to be “welcomed” by a rude and somewhat stressed junior member of staff. I had to remind her that a smile cost nothing and that in fact we were the guests and that by paying to stay in the hotel and have breakfast we were actually paying their wages. This evening we tried to order juice and milk, were told it would be 20 minutes - an hour later nothing. It would not do the senior management any harm to teach their staff about initiative and customer service. We will not be staying at a Holiday Inn again if we can help it. The old saying you pay peanuts you get monkeys is very apt.
I’ve been to this Holiday Inn already couple of years ago. And it was already “worn out” then. However it’s rather clean and ok rooms. I was there a bit early and they upgraded me, so I could check in early. Very nice! Room was nice 2 twin beds, quite clean, bathroom very dated. Breakfast was ok, nothing special. Honestly, I would prefer a Motel One in Hamburg but no room in any of those was available. But the stay was ok.
Breakfast is great, no complain. Wifi stable, stayed at 5th floor of standard room building. Parking is not too easy if you are late in the game, unless you are willing to pay 17 or 18 Euro for garage. The room I had, not too much to complain as it was what I signed up. The only problem I had, for business travelers, no iron board and iron, you have to que up for it. It's not a too much of issue, but should be aware of it, limited sets available. Location is very convenient for in and out Hamburg. There are restaurants within walking distance, as well as a small supermarket. Didn't get a chance to use pool and fitness center, but the pool seemed to be nice.
Chose because of Holiday Inn name, but ended up with miles away from the center. Took me 2 hours of public transportation to the hotel today as No.3 bus changed the route. Very noisy hotel room as the receptionist gave me a room facing the motor way. The Hotel room is very out dated, very basic and minimum. The Kettle spreads plastic smell when water started boiling , I ended up not dare to make a cup of tea. Bar at the ground floor has no English menu, I ended up at the 1st floor restaurant which was a nice surprise, I ordered mixed pan fried seafood and mixed veg, very tasty and I really enjoyed. All in all, due to the location and hotel room deco and facility, I consider this is a one off stay, never again!
Hotel with very specific layout. You may walk 10 mn to breakfast. I mentioned an issue with my room Were told that it has been solved When I noticed that nothing had been done I tried to contact reception several time and get no answer When I mentioned it during check out they promised an upgrade next time. This was not my point. I want right service the first time and adequate reaction when I mention an issue .
A friendly reminder, if anyone so happen selected to stay in this hotel due to the Holiday-Inn brand name, be ensure you made a BOLD comment about "you are booking Holiday-Inn NOT Bridge-Inn!!!", good luck. Tonight I was completed disappointed by Holiday-Inn, while I pretty much believe, it could be just the poor practice of the local hotel management, rather than the IHG group. I booked a room via Agoda under my wife's account, and during check-in, I also re-confirmed I am booked "Holiday-Inn" rather than "Bridge-Inn" (as the check-in staff asked me on this). At the end, I was still being assigned to a room from "Bridge-Inn" ... and when I made my complain, their staff told me both are operated by Holiday-Inn. If I am ok for a road side small local hotel, I didn't have to choose Holiday-Inn, and I am selecting this hotel is purely based on "the brand of Holiday-Inn". Last but not least, "Bridge-Inn" is also available for booking (and there are separate check-in counter as well), with typical room rate about 30% cheaper. To be honest, this is nothing but cheating.
To be honest, the hotel exceeded my expectations because we moved from Crown Plaza here after a week to try out the hotel and I was expecting something with no frills for that price. The hotel did come with free breakfast and in all honestly, it's actually decent. The staffs are always prompt and helpful. Plus point that there's a supermarket REWE right at the back and a shoe outlet right next to it. There are also buses that's 10-15 mins away from the centre and shopping malls and the train station is conveniently located from a 6 min walk. For a stretch of restaurants nearby from the hospital located here, you might have to walk 10-15mins but all in, it's a nice hotel for a short stay.
Good, if 'standard-ish' holiday inn a bit out of town in an urban/industrial-ish area. Bus 154 stop 5 mins away goes to Berliner Tor in 6 minutes (which is on the S1 airport line), and bus 3 also takes you to the HBF in 7 minutes. Rooms were fine, nothing special iro decor and some might say dated (same with the whole building really) but large enough, clean, comfy beds and have all of the usual HI stuff you would expect - free minibar with coke, water and 1 beer replenished daily. Small pool but nice enough and a great temperature, and good sauna, and an outdoor glassed solarium area. You ask in reception and they give you robes, towels and slippers for the pool. Can store your bags if you check in early or want to leave them after you check out. Staff friendly and helpful - although front desk can get busy. Breakfast was nice with lots of choice. There are a couple of restaurants nearby (open until at least midnight) and a bar, plus there is a big Aldi within 10 mins walk - it feels safe to walk about at night. There is a pub in the hotel which seemed popular (we didn't go in, but think it is open until about half twelve). It is about 15 mins to the nearest S bahn, but the buses are fine and come regularly. I think it is good value compared with other hotels in Hamburg. We had a nice stay as a family of 5. Thank you.
