Probably the best option you can have in Halden. The hotel is nothing special however it has everything you need and is located right in the centre of the town not far from the pedestrian area. Good breakfast.
Clean, convenient, nicely located, easy parking, but still with a few things that hit my nerves. No pants hanger. In the winter time people will be there for business, and your dress pants are guaranteed to be wrinkled. I know Norwegians are casual. Not all people are. Like many budget hotels there was no iron board and iron in the room, and the water on the room was not replenished. Two chargeable bottles in the mini bar upon arrival and that was it. You can buy more at the reception though. Also no gym. You can use one that is supposed to be 5 minutes away. Did not try it.
Visited Halden Sept 2016 and chose Thon Hotel because it is near Brygga Kultursal where I will be attending an event. The hotel has an entrance to the event house which is good. I loved the Double Room given to me. It was spacious, clean and very cozy. I got a room with a view on the street and a good look at the Fredriksten Fortress. I bet the view showing the boats and docks were better but couldn't complain as the street view was also fine. Staff were helpful. The breakfast spread is also good. Loved the Salmon and Danish pastries. Just outside the hotel is a view of the docks and boats which was very relaxing. I had a great time staying here. Near restaurants, grocery and the Halden train station. Would definitely choose this again when in Halden.
You probably think I am going to be negative. So OK my room had the worst view you could imagine considering the hotel is in such a beautiful location (right on the marina). But I was away on business so spent around 3 seconds looking out, so this really didn't matter. What did matter was the free Wi-Fi, free parking for the hire car, quiet rooms, decent breakfast overlooking the marina and it was close to restaurants and bars. Might take the wife next time and beg for a room with a view...
I have stayed here several times, all work related, great hotel for location, rooms are small but comfortable, hotel is modern with a good bar and restaurant that gets very busy at weekends, the staff are more than helpful, this hotel is my always my first choice when staying in Halden.
Sloppy people in the reception destroyed the vacation for us. There was no TV working and the people in the reception new but they tried to fool us. We had to change room and the service was very bad indeed. I would not recommend this hotel before they change people in the reception they are terrible the worst people I have experienced-
We found the hotel to be good. The service was good and the room was nice and clean. The breakfast was good as well. The hotel is located nicely in the center of Halden and there are several bars/restaurants close by. Not sure if there is dedicated parking. We used the public parking across the road.
This is a hotel with great location in Halden. The rooms are nice but small but the beds is not the best we have slept in. We got a room with two single beds as a queen size bed, that is not good enough! A large bathroom was nice, but the refrigerator in the room was not cold at all! The room should also been colder at night. The breakfast at this hotel is just not the standard we can expect from a hotel from Thon. Awful dry bread, old eggs, to long cooked eggs and so on... We recomend that you try another hotel in Halden if you can. We have tryed other hotels in Halden before and that was better value for money.
We needed to check in early and I called the day before to ask. I was met by great understanding and our room was cleaned first and ready when we came at 11. (Normal check in-time was 15.) The room was ok and the bed was very good!
This is a hotel with great location in Halden. The rooms was nice and the staff was nice. But the breakfast was really poor! Try bread, over cooked eggs, bad coffee and no juice in the dispensers. Parking is kr 150,- nok for 24 hours. That's a bit pricey too.
