The Dan Carmel Hotel5.0 out of 5.0

I actually live in Haifa, and we were treated to a stay at the Dan Carmel. I personally stayed in a room overlooking the city, not the bay, and felt the room was in ok condition. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were awful The Bathroom was all glass, and has windows that open on the room, it is really strange. the toilet stall is all glass, though partially frosted, and the shower stall which is also glass, isn't sealed properly so the water leaks onto the floor, both in the adjacent toilet stall and in to the main part of the bathroom. The tub is large, and separate. There is a sign in the bathroom about how the Dan chain cares about the environment, and to let them know if you want the towels changed, which they did frequently. The thing is, there was a sticker on the toilet paper (fail one) None of the soaps were not wrapped in plastic (fail two) Everything was single use (fail three) there were nice touches, which we didn't take, like the cotton balls, and Qtips, which I could see how some travelers would want. They also had no in room recycling options, such as paper, bottles or cans, which are all available in the city of Haifa. There were several nice touches, a personalized note from the Management ( I count this as fail four though, since no place to recycle the paper). There were plenty of outlets, and a rarity for hotels these days, and alarm clock next to the bed. there was a chair for lounging, and one at the desk. The TV looked nice, but we didn't watch. I happened to be fortunate enough to view the rooms on the 10th floor, which are VIP rooms, and where the business center is. Kinda disappointing. The style is nice, but the furnishings are old, and have not be maintained. And the AC didn't work well, or at all. (the views is amazing though!) The food there is basic, but nice for a snack. The staff there is AMAZING!!! J. was so friendly and helpful. Since we stayed over shabbat, it was a nice featuring having the shabbat elevator, however, there were several large groups arriving and one elevator was out, and it made many people very unhappy, the staff should have temporarily turned of the shabbat elevator and then turned it back on after the rush. The dinning room was a major disappointment. The staff was not prepared, we asked for a prayer book for shabbat to say the Friday night blessings and they gave us a Passover one, not relevant! There was no table service, even to fill water, but the food was just so so. Saturday night the food was much worse, meat that had not been properly cooked, and just nothing special, or really tasty. Almost everything looked the same. The breakfast was also a let down, I had been there before so I was excited, but this time, the porridge was awful, the fruits were not so fresh, and again there was nothing really special. We wanted to have a dairy lunch on the patio with the pool, and we didn but the shabbat menu choices were slim, and not very tasty, the loxs were slimy, the tuna had too much mayo (crem fresh?) and very small portions. The staff though at the pool and on the deck was amazing! The waiter was so helpful and attentive. There is a park next to the hotel, but you cannot access it from the hotel. You can walk to the Louis Promenaded and to the Bahai gardens from here, but not to the beach (you will need a cab) There is parking at the hotel, but we parked on the street, the entrace on the outside, looks like it hasn't been updated since the 70s. There is a beit knesset on the premises. There are shabbat keys avaliable. Over all just average, the food could have been so much better, and if it would have been I would have given a whole extra star, maybe even two!
The room is very big and very nice. The view from the room balcony is outstanding-The Haifa gulf. The Dan Carmel is located on The Louis Promenade .the food was very good. And the service around the Hotel was great.
I reviewed the Dan Carmel Haifa when staying there in March 2016. Touring in Israel this past March 2017, my group stayed 4 nights there again. It is obvious we were all given hotel rooms up several "notches" from last year as the room had a beautiful view of the harbor and the room itself was obviously several upgrades from last year. So, as far as my assessment of the room, it was very, very nice. However, the food was quite mediocre at breakfast, as was the service. It was incredibly difficult to get someone to pour us coffee. My wife and I ate one night at the dairy restaurant where the food was average and the service atrocious. So taking all into consideration, the Dan Carmel Haifa, while perfect in location, is just average when it comes to the food service.
But food was so-so with not enough staff in dining room. Kosher food does not have to be blah and this was. It gets lots of tour groups, some large, and I guess just does not care. I was with a small group.
Checking was quick. The room was rather small and the beds rather hard. The air conditioning worked well. Nice bathroom with separate tub and shower. Staff was attentive. Breakfast was included but contained many items Americans don't eat. Great bath towels but no washcloths.

We stayed two nights and loved our room overlooking Haifa. The breakfast/brunchs & dinners were 4-5 star quality with an excellent variety for all diets. The location was also great, not far from the beautiful Bahá’í Gardens.

I would like to acknowledge my recent stay during Passover at the Dan Carmel Haifa was a most memorable stay. My family as well as my tour group all had the same thing to say about the stay at the hotel. The staff was friendly, and the lounge assistant Joanna was very kind and pleasant. The King David lounge was very peaceful and quiet and provided fresh food and snacks making it a place to relax and enjoy the views of Haifa Bay. The atmosphere was PERFECT! The rooms were clean and also provided lovely views.
