Sub par hotel, littered with fake reviews on other sites, certainly did not live up to a 5 star hotel. Loud non sounproofed rooms, with dated and worn fittings and carpets. The hotel was hosting a large wedding which meant all but 1 resturant on the island was available to non wedding guests. The wedding was loud and continued with parts music around the pool area all day and night until 4am, resulting in poor quality sleep if any. The hotel has a policy of no outside food on the island, which if caught is punishable by a fine. Food on the island is overpriced and poor quality, options to eat in ha long are minimal, in essence it creates a real feeling odlf being trapped.

Staff are amazing. Place is lovely. Rooms are good. Food is excellent especially the Pavillion and Italian restaurants. You feel like a VIP all the time. Only criticism relates to the Bayview restaurnat where you have breakfast (and if you wish a buffet at lunch and/or dinner) - I know we are dealing with high volumes, but there was a lack of cleanliness in regard to the tables. After a group leave a table, the table should be cleared AND wiped down properly - shaking the placements onto the floor is not sufficient. This was not a one-off but a systematic issue - and one easliy sorted.

The view from the room was awesome. Just for the view I would come back here. The picture I added does not do it justice. On these reviews there is a lot of discussion whether it should be a 4 star or 5 star hotel. It is definitely not a 5 star hotel but a great value 4 star one. After you check in you get a WhatsApp message from a virtual concierge. I used her a lot. Best deal you get is if you prepay breakfast, lunch and dinner. However if you stay couple of days you may not want to eat buffet food all the time. Then you can order a-la-carte or eat in the Pavilion and you are supposed to get a credit (if you prepaid for the buffet). The Pavilion had the best food but the service was terrible on the 2nd night we were there. They were insufficiently staffed for the amount of guests - that is one of the reasons it is not a 5 star hotel. The other reason is that you do not really have service at the pool. You have to go to the pool bar to make an order. They will then bring it to you…. My wife and I both had incredible massages. Was not the cheapest (in town you probably would pay much less) but the room and changing room were nice and spotless. Tried to book a 4 hr boat ride with the folks that have a desk in the lobby. But they could offer only a boat that has space for 40 for more than $300. Wish they had had cheaper options for smaller parties. The bill was totally unclear. Did not get the credit for the a-la-card meals. Had to use the Concierge to sort it out.

Overall not a great experience - check in of bags was not great, didn’t bring bags to the room as they tagged the wrong room number, wrong name on the welcome letter in room, and on check out put our bags on a coach we wasn’t going on… almost lost them - don’t seem to take care of luggage, beware!

Clean, good size room with good balcony overlooking the swimming pools and great view over Ha Long Bay towards the World Heritage Site 1800 limestone humps in the bay. Service was excellent and the hotel was beautiful with marble throughout, loveely statues and fountains and beaiutifully kept extensive gardens and trees. Indoor swimming pool also provided and sauna, steam room jacuzzi. Highly recommended.
