Sugar Hotel

Nice room, but dysfunctional

The room was modern, large, well-built, clean and had many amenities, but was not well-suited to its purpose. The large bathroom was complete with Jacuzzi, but the shower was directly over the floor and thus left the floor wet and slippery. The wash basin was a small stand-alone with no place for toiletries except 10 feet away. There was a self-contained sauna within the room that took up space that could have been better used for the missing closet and shelf space. The room didn't seem designed as a tourist accommodation. The Sugar Hotel is located in an area of "love hotels" although the Sugar seems to separate itself from this.. The restaurants in the area are of low quality and often not very clean with a few, hard to find, exceptions. There is a resort area on Lake Bomun, several miles isolated from the city, that has many large tourist hotels and associated restaurants. This area would, however, give the visitor a distorted view of Gyeongju. There are many outstanding tourist attractions in Gyeongju but they are somewhat spread out. We found taxi's to be a good way to cover the longer stretches. One day we rented a taxi and driver with the hotel's help. This worked out well and easily cover many sights.

Sono Hotel

Not bed but odd

Relatively close to the bus terminal and near the local market. The room was o.k. but the corridor is dark and odd. The front desk is a small hole near the garage. The main entrance is throuth the garage. The recepcionists don't speak English. Breakfast is very poor and there is no place to sit and eat. All that feels strange and a bit sleazy. But in overall it was o.k.

Bellus Rose Pension Hotel

Comfortable bed and breakfast

Very welcoming and personable. Room was spacious with kitchen amenities. Breakfast was brought to the room in the morning. There was an outdoor swimming pool that was empty. Perhaps we were there too early in the season, in May. We wanted to be near the various sights in the area.
