Sugar Hotel

Nice room, but dysfunctional

The room was modern, large, well-built, clean and had many amenities, but was not well-suited to its purpose. The large bathroom was complete with Jacuzzi, but the shower was directly over the floor and thus left the floor wet and slippery. The wash basin was a small stand-alone with no place for toiletries except 10 feet away. There was a self-contained sauna within the room that took up space that could have been better used for the missing closet and shelf space. The room didn't seem designed as a tourist accommodation. The Sugar Hotel is located in an area of "love hotels" although the Sugar seems to separate itself from this.. The restaurants in the area are of low quality and often not very clean with a few, hard to find, exceptions. There is a resort area on Lake Bomun, several miles isolated from the city, that has many large tourist hotels and associated restaurants. This area would, however, give the visitor a distorted view of Gyeongju. There are many outstanding tourist attractions in Gyeongju but they are somewhat spread out. We found taxi's to be a good way to cover the longer stretches. One day we rented a taxi and driver with the hotel's help. This worked out well and easily cover many sights.

Apple House Mini Hotel

A nice place

At first, the hotel was hard to find. It is tucked away in a little backroad. Once I got there, I met a lovely staff member who spoke perfect English. He brought me towels, water, and showed me the controls in my room. There is also a cute little cat who sleeps in the lobby. He will purr if you let him. The hotel location is wonderful. I was able to walk to many of Gyeongju's historical spots. They also provided me with a great map for getting around. It was really great to have such kind staff members making sure my experience was a good one. I'd use this place again if j go back.
