This is our second review about this hotel and some of it is a repetition last one we wrote in 2014. As frequent travellers to this area, this is the place we always come back to. We visited this hotel 7 years ago with a baby, 4 years ago with a toddler and a new baby, 3 years ago with our 2 children and again last September in same composition. We start and end our Samui-Phangan trip in this homey hotel as it really helps to recover from the long journey and prepare for the next one. It starts from the welcome in the airport and then at the special welcome room 'drinking out of the coconut', continues with best service one can dream of and finishes with superb breakfast and unbeatable beach and lagoon. Kids are in love with Choeng Mon beach as well as their parents, and a daily corn on a stick is their favorite. Location is special as it is a short ride from Samui's attractions and optimal distance from Chaweng busy street (15min by a car). This hotel is a winning combination of great specious rooms, superb service, beautiful beach and fantastic nearby restaurants a minute away, plus some handy free stuff (pickup from and to the airport and most important free smiles!) . You will want to come back every year, so beware... One thing to mention: in some of the rooms renovation is still very much required and if you are picky about it this may not be the place for you (read in other people's reviews). However if you are here, like us, looking for all the goodness shared above then come and enjoy.
Location wise is very convenient as it is close to the airport and there is a free transfer in/out. Outside of the rooms looks like in a jungle and surprise with green surroundings and freshness. But once you get into the room you realise that nothing works and a room is not ready for guests. We did not have a phone, so for every question we needed to go to the reception. Bathroom did not work, you can use it as a shower only and splash the water everywhere around. Atmosphere in the room is very old and looks like soviet block decoration. No bar, only restaurant with limited meals. However they have a good catch of the day or crabs to serve.
This is a very nice hotel on the nicest beach on Koh Samui. Fine foods, relaxing massages and very kind personal. The rooms are modest but always clean. It has a small pool but an even bigger beach with a lot of restaurants in front of the hotel. Very nice!
During our trip to Thailand we visited Ko Samui twice, 3 nights at the beginning of our holiday and 1 night at the end. We loved our stay at the White House Hotel. The hotel provide a complimentary taxi from and to the local airport. The hotel is in a fantastic location, set on a beautiful beach and in walking distance of a number of bars and restaurants. This part of Ko Samui is a lot quieter than others but was perfect for us. The staff within the hotel were very friendly and accommodating. We had a few minor issues which they helped resolve quickly. The rooms are a little dated and given there location within the trees did sometimes smell musty. However, the price we paid for our stay was a steal. We didn't mind though as we did not spend much time in our room. Would recommend if you are looking for a cheap hotel on the beach.
My boyfriend and I had lunch at the White House beach restaurant on our last day in Koh Samui, and we can say this was the worst restaurant we visited during our 2 week vacation in Thailand. First, the picture and the description on the menu for the only vegetarian pasta didn't match. The description said spaggethi with garlic and butter but the picture showed ham. I asked our waiter if the pasta was vegetarian but he clearly couldn't understand much english and just smiled and said "no, no vegetarian". Then another waitress came and said they could do it vegetarian. But when my pasta arrived, long before my boyfriend's pizza, I was shocked to see the portion: maximum two spoons of pasta for a 200 baht dish, which is not cheap for Koh Samui or Thailand. I complained that the portion was ridiculously small, but only after 2 waiters looked at my plate and compared it with the picture on the menu, and 10 minutes later, they finally decided to bring me a bigger portion, which was still small but a bit more reasonable for the price. Meanwhile my boyfriend was still waiting for his pizza, which arrived 40 minutes after we ordered, and when I had almost finished my meal. The food was good, but charging 200 bahts for 2 spoons of pasta is outrageous, even for a beach restaurant. We ate at several other restaurants on Choeng Mon beach (Sala Samui, Muang Villas, and Kirati) and this one had by far the worst service and value for money.
One of the nicest places I stayed during my 30 day journey around Thailand. Staff was gracious; room was spacious. Tropical setting and old world vibe. Great location, peaceful paradise. At night enjoy mellow live music down the beach & romantic beach-side dining. Nice village feel with restaurants and excellent, inexpensive massage across the street too and excursions. (TIP: Book excursions direct from the tour places along the street - the hotel adds a significant surcharge.) Nice to stay a couple days or ev. Friendly felines & pooches make you feel at home. Gym is small & not air conditioned. And the most hilarious thing is they have a sauna room that costs $12 an hour. Who the heck takes sauna's in tropical heat? All you have to do is go into the gym and sweat it out for free-lol! Pool is on the small side, but I spent all my time in the the dazzling turquoise waters.(TIP: Given the tides and the coral situation it can be difficult to find a swimable beach in the islands.) Breakfast buffet is quite good too and the view can't be beat. This beach is AWESOME and the hotel is, as another reviewer put it, enchanting! Have a blast! We ate at the White House restaurant and we're so enchanted by the staff and the hotel, that we came for a tour with a plan to stay next time (as we had stayed next door this time around). The ancient stone carving decor and jungle like gardens were lush and evocative and the hotel was quiet and peaceful. The pool near the restaurant was gorgeous, clean and big enough to cool off. The rooms too were spacious and modern having been recently renovated, but a smell of mustiness lingers. The only downside was that there was no deck to sit in front of your room...but hey the pool and the beach are only metres away.
Facing directly on the beach with an entrance and a lobby in a kinda of old Indian style, this 4 star hotel offer big size room, a swimming pool, a nice restaurant and many other basic services (safe, Wi-Fi, laundry, room service, etc) for a very reasonable price. The staff is very nice and truly efficient and the lush vegetation throughout all the property make you feel your tropical paradise holiday even more tropical. We enjoyed our stay and we would definitely suggest it!
Our room was excellent size, had large bed, with day lounge and chair with foot rest. Cleaned daily. Staff all very lovely and helpful. Facilities had all you could ask for. Place is beautiful with all the plants around but the buildings themselves are a little tired.
We stayed here for 11 nights. We had booked a deluxe room, which on arrival looked good. However, the first night 2 ceiling lights flashed on/off all night. We reported it to reception and assumed it would be dealt with. The second night was a repeat of the first. We walked to reception to report it, as the phone in the room was not connected! Again we thought it would be fixed. How wrong we were. After a third night of flashing lights we again reported it at reception and were told that we would be moved to a suite the following day. The move was duly completed and the suite looked very good. But after an evening of torrential rain we were again woken up, this time by the sound of dripping water. The roof was leaking, and water was running down the walls. Again this was reported, a maintenance man looked at it and that was it! Breakfast was adequate. The foliage surrounding the rooms needs to be cut back. The beach in front of the hotel is ok, but there are dogs walking around the loungers, leaving nasty deposits on the sand. There is a great deal of broken glass littering the beach. Each time we walked along we picked up lots of sharp pieces of glass. The staff are the saving grace- everyone is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in need of a total revamp to bring it up to scratch.
