Everything is perfect, the room is neat, breakfast is so so, some staffs are hardly understand English, I have to speak Chinese to communicate, but all staffs are nice and have service-minded. However, they forget to clean our room in the last night, anyway when I call and inform this issue, cleaning staffs suddenly came to our room and making up everything in few minutes.
The hotel rooms are very good and location perfect right in the middle of the city. But breakfast are for chinese people not for western countries. There is no bread, cheese or anything. we couldnt eat anything only we drink coffee. Also nobody can speak english just hotel manager speak a little english. I am quite suprised nobody can speak english all the city. We had eating problem in Guiyang until we find a Kuntucky fried chicken.
My wife and I stayed in the Howard Johnson during the Eco forum global meeting earlier this month. A very comfortable stay. Nice, hard bed; well equipped bathroom, high-peed email connection through a cable. The restaurant serves good breakfast, with both Chinese and western choices. I discovered the swimming pool and gym, and had a good massage. The staff are wonderful, and go out-of-their-way to help, even if the English language skills are limited for some. The decor is not very modern, and this is not a design hotel, but a very good business hotel.
The interior of the hotel is quite ok. The rooms are well acceptable. The English language capabilities of the staff of reception is quite good. The service of reception is very well. I do like the hotel as it is not first class stylish but very well for foreigners while still having a local Chinese flavor. The area is rather original Chinese flavor.
Although the hotel was clean, the staff were friendly and the facilities adequate, the booking system is in need of some work. We booked a twin room and were given a king bed. Fortunately we are good friends! I would make sure when you book that you confirm your room requirement or you may end up sharing a bed with a work colleague! The mini bar in the first room was un-stocked and broken and the shower in our second room flooded the bathroom no matter how hard we tried to keep the water off the floor! The breakfast is international with an understandable bias to Asian cuisine. There is not a great selection of fresh fruit but the buffet was sufficiently diverse that everyone should be able to find something to eat. The toaster, however, took ten minutes to lightly warm the bread so I suggest the hotel buys a new one! Overall this is a reasonable hotel with very limited facilities but as it is in more remote part of China I would consider it a good option for anyone staying in Guiyang. Be aware that due to heavy traffic congestion, if you are there to attend an expo or conference at the exhibition centre, it takes between 40 minutes to 1 1/2 hours to get from the hotel to the venue!
Although location is great and staff is friendly and service oriented, the hotel is really old and rooms desperately need refurbishing. Breakfast is terrible for foreigners, it's really a Chinese breakfast and not suitable to westerners. This hotel can't be called a 5-star hotel....
…. for a Howard Johnson. Showed some signs of age but overall not bad. The front of desk staff were very helpful and they now know what GBP are in comparison to €. Dining room at night had run out of a lot of the things we wanted (we got their just before they shut), which was a bit disappointing after a two flights and 10 hours of travelling! Breakfast was good though.
I was very surprised by the welcome experienced at the hotel. I called in advance and arranged for a car to meet me (first time in China!) and he was there, no problem. The only English speaker manageress met me and helped me settle in and thereafter she was gracious and very willing to assist with all kinds of requests. Lovely food, room very comfortable, all you need. Just wish I could speak the language! Good posisiotn too for the city and the park.
The Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel was first rate. It was extremely well-decorated, clean, and comfortable, and the construction quality was good. It has a very good restaurant with international fare (burgers, steaks) with an excellent breakfast buffet. The hotel also has an excellent Cantonese restaurant on the third floor. Very well-prepared Cantonese and Guiyang-style dishes that brought us back for a second dinner. The staff at the hotel was in every way gracious and helpful. We were one of the very few American guests during our stay, yet from the front desk to restaurant staff to bellhops and maids, all treated us with warmth and hospitality. The heartfelt interest in where we were from and details about America made us feel welcome. Quingling Park is closeby and wonderful for exercise and hiking. We can heartily recommend the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in Guiyang.
I've traveled all over China and this hotel sticks out in my mind as one of the best I have stayed at. FYI, we typically stay at mid-range choices, so I'm not comparing this to the Shangri-La or anything. The room was on the small side, but very comfortable, tastefully decorated. I slept really well here because the bed was super fluffy and soft and comfortable, definitely a Western-style bed. The bathroom was good sized and very clean. Free, reliable wi-fi. We had room service one night and it arrived promptly. The food was decent and is definitely doable in a pinch. The breakfast buffet was okay, typical buffet in a hotel in China. Location - I think was good? In my opinion there isn't too much to do in Guiyang. It was about a 40 minute ride from the airport. The hotel drove us to the airport for free, and will pick you up for free if you pre-arrange it. If we were to come back we would definitely stay here again. I never understand why people detract points from a hotel for lack of good English speakers, let alone in a place like GUIZHOU, China... As long as the staff smiles and are friendly and try to work it out, 5 stars in my book... (though we both speak Mandarin so this admittedly isn't a problem for us). The staff here were very friendly and accommodating.
