Impressive building near the Li river. Very fine, polite, friendly and efficient staff throughout the hotel. Very good rooms but must admit that we received an upgrade. Great lobby serving the best food of the hotel. Li Cafe caters mainly for large groups. Shang Palace chinese restaurant did not convince us at all. Efficient and friendly tour desk organized our tours perfectly. Large garden.
This hotel must be one of the best on our China tour! It is big and beautifull and just 12RMD for a taxi into downtown! The food was great and the rooms huge and well laid out with big bathrooms! Lovely !
We stayed at the Shangri La hotel for two nights during our recent trip. We booked executive river view rooms. We actually arrived earlier than check in time and were a bit disappointed that the rooms were not ready. Nevertheless we left our luggages went off for some quick sightseeing and returned shortly after 2pm and were disappointed to find that one of our rooms was still not ready. We were shown to 1 room so we could at least have some lunch while we waited. It is the only hotel in my life where they charge you for asking for lemon/lime/cucumber for your drinks. Considering this is a 5* chain we all were very shocked. On the other hand, our rooms were lovely but very small considering they had the executive tag against them. The bathrooms were clean and well equipped. We had use of the executive lounge and we made use of the 5pm to 7pm free drinks and food which was a nice touch to our booking. The food here was exhaustive and had a good selection for a vegetarian. We made use of the swimming pool and whirlpool while there and both were great. Please note you are expected to wear a swimming cap in the pool. They did provide this free of charge however if I was to return I would take my own for hygiene reasons. We also booked massages at the spa which were amazing. During my trip in china I had 3 massages and they were just amazing. I never normally fall asleep and these all put me to sleep, especially the one at this hotel. We both asked for a deep tissue body massage for 60 minutes and it was exceptional. The hotel is a resort and has many bars and restaurants and shops on site. It had many recreational activities as well for guests to participate in and if we had extra time I'm sure we would have ventured for some of these activities. The bakery onsite was also really good. We bought some pastries as we had missed breakfast on arrival and they hit the spot. Breakfast the next two days was absolutely perfect. We were able to enjoy the large selection of food varying from Chinese to continental. The hotel itself is quite far from the city centre which is a shame, so you can't go for a walk.
We stayed at the Shangri La in Guilin in early October 2017. The location is just outside the city, but that had little effect on our stay. Two nights. Close enough to city downtown anyway. Architecturally impressive buildings. We took all our meals at the hotel restaurant. Breakfast was very good. The evening menu had some western style selections which were fine. Room was well appointed and quiet. We had stayed in Guilin about seven years previously and were located in downtown. The real attractions in Guilin are the Li River and some local sites like the Reed Flute caves. Concierge service at the hotel was very good as were the other services at the front desk.
Beautiful grounds, nice location on Li River, room very comfortable. Breakfast was reasonably varied. The visuals are very good and the service very friendly. I enjoyed the location, but my stay was very short.
Stayed recently for two nights. Hotel check-in was speedy & efficient and room was everything we expected. Location is a bit out of the city centre and we had to take a 20 minute taxi ride to get to the main shops and market - no real problem, but best to get a map of where you want to go to show the taxi driver ! Breakfast is buffet style, good choice of both Chinese and European food, but very busy!
Our room was spacious, very clean, and well appointed. However, it is an older hotel so it does need a little modernizing. For example, there were only three outlets in the room. However, that minor inconvenience was far outweighed by the beauty of the hotel, the lovely grounds, the fantastic service by everyone involved, and the traditional Chinese ambience. My wife had a spa treatment and said the spa was exceptional. The hotel is located in a quiet area about an hour from the airport. We really enjoyed our stay there and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. I doubt that there is a better place to stay in Guilin.
The good: staff was professional, room was well appointed, kids play area including petting zoo, close to Diecai Hill. The decent: smallish gym, location was far from central area, but easy to get to by cab or didi (Chinese Uber). Terrible: stains on our headboard, and we learned almost every dinner item at the Li Cafe was made with peanut oil, except the pricier grilled meats. I understand the Chinese only use peanut oil in higher quality restaurants because the oil is more expensive and flavorful, but to use it on almost every dish, including chocolate cake, is dangerous and potentially life threatening. I hope the hotel manager will read this review and seriously reconsider the use of peanut oil on their premises.
I had a very terrible experience from Guilin Shangri-La with my First family trip from USA to China and in Shangri-La with kids - I had a big tour 25 days in 8 cities in china and stayed in all Shangri-La Hotels I booked 2 nights in this hotel through Shangri-La GC membership desk and when I reached the hotel won’t give the things mentioned in booking. It was so painful. What happened Day 1, when we just started eating breakfast with family. A guy called David Li came with bill and asked to pay money. We completely felt bad. This is really bad service and highly disrespectful. Everybody was looking at us, Do we run away without paying money and we felt ashamed and I told them this is included in my booking and they never cared. I complained to the Hotel Manager, GC Director, HKG and GM of the hotel. They never cared about me and our family. Day 2 we went for Breakfast and got the same bad treatment. Again, I complained to the GM of the hotel. He didn’t take any action and I had to pay again. I won’t trust GC membership desk gain and the higher management. This was so painful. The GM of the hotel never tried to resolve this and never cared even though I was a GC Jade member. So I know what a normal customer can expect. I am a frequent traveler to China/HKG from USA , stayed many nights in Shangri-La before and now I will take Shangri-La off my list, since I received very bad treatment and management never cared about my grievances. Normally even if the hotel is poor I find something good to say about the staff ( except the indian cook in the Restaurant) but sadly they seemed to be a bad as the hotel. This hotel falls well short of what I have come to expect from Shangri-La.
