Nobody in the hotel spoke a word of English. We called to book transportation from the railway station (advertised as free) muy they didn't understand and asked us to send an email, what we did. Nobody replied our email, let alone sent someone to pick us up (hence, we had to pay a taxi). The hotel is dirty and old, sheets and towels were stained and everything smelled like cigarette. The sheets even had cigarette holes. The bed was a scam, and instead of being a proper king sized bed, they joined two regular twin beds, which were really hard and unpleasant. Wifi didn't work. Common areas were hot, dirty and smelly. Breakfast was terrible. Staff was absolutely helpless. Note that they give only one key per room which is also the only card that turns the power on, so forget leaving your electronics charging or the A/C programmed to a certain temperature. No safe or minibar. Wouldn't return.

If you don't speak any Mandarin at all I would strongly recommend that you stay away from this hotel. We had a very difficult time communicating with the staff even for something as simple as calling a taxi for us. After insisting (I speak very limited Mandarin) they did get us a taxi but instructed the driver to take us to the wrong location. They also could not offer any assistance to find a good restaurant. The rooms were very basic. The internet in our room did not work but the signal was strong enough from the room next door. We stayed on the side of the main street and the traffic noise was loud. Others in our party stayed on the other side of the building and their room had a strong sewage smell. All that being said, the location is ideal, just a few minutes walk to Elephant hill, the river and the Sun and Moon pagodas. If you are looking for a very inexpensive way to spend one night it would be OK. For longer stays I would look elsewhere.

I staid there for three nights. My experience was OK, although the hotel is pretty basic. The staff was quite helpful but not very knowledgeable in English. The location is also pretty good. It is not a great place, but the price is very reasonable, so that can be an OK choice. Wifi was quite poor.

I am happy that the room was clean, newly renovated and big as advertised. probably it is the best hotel room we had during our 10-day stay in Guilin, Ping'an and Yangshuo. A little cigarette smell on the pillows. but it was ok as long as I faced up when sleeping. I asked the receptionist to arrange for a taxi to airport but i was told that they did not arrange it. instead i was told to do myself as there is an agent setting up a counter in the same building. But instead of spening RMB100-120 to take a taxi, taking a bus is also very convenient. one can take bus #16 and one more bus (forgot the number) to CAAC to take a shuttle bus to the airport. Only 3 stops to reach CAAC at RMB1 or 2. There are many eatery shops nearby for one to try local economic food which price is range from RMB5 to 12. one can walk from the hotel to Central Square and Xicheng and Zheng Yang pedestrian business streets at night for shopping.

Stayed here 2 nights and must say that it was reasonable. I'm not excited by anything in particular. The location was very good, everything close by. The rooms were dated in paint and decor but the bathroom was quite good! Staff nice and the reception was 24/7 which helped checking out. Booked a reasonably priced tour at the hotels tour service - loved it. The breakfast selection was not good at all. Didn't have coffee there for guests and had to really work hard to communicate I was looking for a coffee with the staff. Overall I feel like the price was equal to the hotel.

More a 2 star than actually a 3 one... The walls were dirty, furniture out of the 70's, not too much English around and the lift door waits for no one! A lot of noisy guests around with very thin walls. Location was good but the rest was not worth it.

This was a great place to stay. There are cheaper places but for value this hotel was really nice. The bedrooms were immaculate and cleaned often. The receptionists tried very hard to speak English for us and asked for help from others when they couldn't understand. Easy to book tours at the front desk. Would recommend.

The Starway proved to be a good choice for our recent visit to Guilin. The location was great for some of the sights we wanted to see as well as some good restaurants nearby. The room was clean and the housekeeping staff good. While we first got rooms that were not as we desired because of bed size they changed rooms for us to get us what we wanted. The breakfast was just okay but satisfactory. The internet proved to be the worst thing as the reception for WiFi was very poor and then if connected very slow. Otherwise we felt it was a good stay.

A good value close to all the parks, pagodas, rivers and lakes of central Guilin. Probably because we booked and reconfirmed through China Travel Service, the airport pickup went flawlessly. Staff could use a little more English, but made an enthusiastic effort to help. Chinese breakfast buffet was outstanding.

I decided to book this hotel because it offered a complementary pick up from the airport and the hotel was in a good location. Prior to leaving the UK I had received confirmation from the hotel that they would meet us at the airport. This did not happen therefore I believe that the hotel advertises this service to gain your custom. We therefore asked if they would drop us of at the airport to fly back to UK hotel staff refused this request said this was an option only when arriving into Guilin. We stayed for 13 nights and the rooms are not comfortable at all, ideal if you are only staying a couple of nights. The hotel room is very basic with rock hard mattresses. The bathrooms and the room floor were not always cleaned. In addition I killed a large cockroach next to my bed left it in a prominent position for the cleaner and surprisingly the cockroach was still there for five days prior to flying back to the UK. There was a huge damp patch across two walls with plaster work falling off. I continually had to ask for toilet paper because the cleaner rarely left us any. I arranged and agreed with the receptionist for a late check out for 16.00 hrs was told it was not a problem usual check out time is 12.00. The hotel requested and were assertive that we vacated our room by 12.30. The hotel staff was very unwelcoming especially staying there for 13 nights they did not say hello or acknowledge us as we passed through the reception area. On the odd ocasion when the cleaner attented to our room a supply of teabags were stolen.I did not mind but I wished she had left some behind
