One side of this property opens to a lovely setting with wide lawns down to the river. From this side of the Lodge it is a perfect setting. The other side of the Lodge is literally 10 feet away from an extremely busy road. It was impossible to sleep at night, which was truly distressing. My friend had a room on the "quiet" side of the Lodge but had one of the worst (lumpy) mattresses he ever experienced. The breakfast was very nice, the staff friendly and the interior of the Lodge as pictured (very nice). The Lodge is located about a 2 minute car ride away from a very small but charming town. I'm afraid I would not stay here again due to the reasons I've mentioned above.

Loved all the artifacts. Didn't' like the shower in room 4 to hard to get in and out of. Not people friendly.. But loved the Lodge.

I preface my rating by saying it’s “rustic”. You have to be ready for that kind of experience to enjoy this property. This is no 4 or even 3 star lodging. It’s a hole in the wall, but as holes go it’s fun and beautiful. The people who own it are as laid back as the property itself. Be ready to get treated to a hearty breakfast, at noon. Be ready for small accommodations that may or may not work, like camping. We went in expecting the worst and were pleasantly surprised that it was better than that. My only complaint was since we chose a high demand weekend the price was stupidly high. But not as stupid as other places (courtyard for $400, embassy for $500??!!) so it is what it is.

The lobby and hallways had fantastic charm. Subtle presentation improvements could make this a real gem (and allow for slightly higher rates). Window coverings that cover the entire windows, hangers that match (many were from dry cleaners), small repairs to bathroom (new shower curtain, remove tub stains). Staff was very pleasant but not extremely helpful or presentable.

Great place, right next to road so street noise a little repressive. Otherwise, very historic and host is real fun. It is quite worth the money.

We enjoyed the room, however, the picture online and the room provided weren't the same. We inquired about the room with the private balcony overlooking the back yard, but were told it wasn't available, even though that was the one advertised. So be prepared, you're not getting the room you thought you were getting.

Hotel staff very friendly Better than average breakfast included Avoid street side rooms if a light sleeper No TV in rooms Beautiful common area to relax

very confusing stay. no one at check-in(we arrived late around 11pm Friday) but were told that there would be an envelope waiting at check-in desk. there was. nice lodge/living room area but didn't feel comfortable using it as it felt like someone was living there and we were never told about amenities during our stay. big kitchen area with dirty dishes left, again felt like somone was living there. found our room with door wide open...I guess that makes it easier to find? chips all over floor, even found them on the bedspread. saw a bag of chips next to a sleeping bag on a couch under the covered patio later that night. kind of creepy. something was stuck to the only chair in the room and we made jokes about the "booger" on the chair the rest of the weekend. didn't use the chair the entire weekend. couldn't find extra towels or pillows, never was told where to find them or how to ask as there were no phones in the rooms. we were in the largest suite. woke up to knocking at 930 am. I answered "just a minute" and was told nevermind from behind the door. got dressed and went out to investigate. found AL the owner and was told he was the one who knocked to find out if we were"in there" he never spoke to us again. heard and saw several other groups being given tours of the lodge. we were not. as we were leaving Sunday morning found that they had cooked breakfast for the other guests which we had not heard about. felt ignored and unimportant during our stay. lovely grounds though
