We spent 4 nights here, were very well taken care of, and enjoyed our stay. The staff was wonderful, the location great, right on the ocean in Le Gosier. The beach is small, but nice. The hotel could use a bit of polishing. And the room staff needs a bit of supervision, as they were a bit inconsistent. The food is very good, but rather formal.
First off, the plus: The views are breathtaking, since the complex ( the hotel consists of several low buildings) is right on the sea. The rooms are very clean. There is a large pool, and a nice little cove with a beach. The sea is great to,swim in Now the minus: My colleagues got rooms with a view, I got a room with a view on palm trees and a footpath. These lower rooms are perfectly adequate, but also, more prone to mosquitos...They stuck us on a side where there was an all night noisy wedding, although they had availabilities in another building The 25 € for breakfast is an affront, a rip-off, for what is on offer. excellent bread and pastries but that is about it. No English TV stations, heck, hardly any TV stations, should it rain. No hair driers in rooms, just the old burn-your-skin wall-mounted type Mattress slightly saggy = old The hotel is firmly stuck in the 70 ies, decor, tiles, rooms, it needs a major revamp. The pool is large, but the pool area is just sad and old and uninviting.Apparently no pool bar, no towel service
If you want be not to far from the airport but in a greeny place, closed to some of the best Beach restaurant at Guadeloupe Island Book there. Breakfast are great and all people are cheerful. 700m from nice beach
We really enjoyed our stay. Nice place, green and beautiful garden, fantastic location and view. Nice restaurant - breakfast doesn't have a very big choice, but a lot of fresh fruits, eggs, cheese and bread. The beach is not very big, but it is very cozy and i would recommend it for romantic walks in the evening. It's private and safe. Staff is very helpful and nice. Not all of them can speak English but they are always ready to help. This hotel has it's own charm and we really liked it. Housekeeping is great.
A winning combination of good location east of the congestion of St. Anne and Gosier, excellent accommodations in a beautifully landscaped setting, friendly and helpful staff generally comfortable speaking English, tennis court, and very good value. These pluses easily overcome the fact that it's a decent walk to the nearest beach, where water is pretty rough, and you probably would want to venture out for dinner some nights. If you have a car, a fine base of operations to explore the many worthwhile sites on both Grande Terre and Basse Terre. Mostly, but not entirely, French clientele, but American made to feel welcome.
We had a lovely time during our short stay at the hotel. I was a little nervous given some Of the reviews (the stairs ). But it was no big deal. We were there with 2 small Children and didn't have any issues. The bellmen were very nice and helpful getting our stuff to our room. We also went down to the beach with the kids and don't think it was as big of a hike as some people make it out to be. (If you are handicapped and or elderly this could be a challenge Though. The food in the hotel was superb. We loved breakfast and also ordered dinner for our children the night before and it was outstanding. The room was a great family set up. One double bed up top and a twin and twin trundle below. We would definitely return to this hotel! It's also in a great midpoint location that allows you to more easily explore both parts of the island.
Nice Hotel where not only the tower is old, but the rooms as well. Internet connection was only working temporary during our 4 day stay and the staff did not make the impression as if they would really care about that. Worst of all is the breakfast buffet, birds and pigeons are all over the place eating from the guests food at the tables and also at the breakfast buffet, especially at the bread table. The staff is not taking care of that issue at all and let the birds help themselves. When I adressed the manager he only tried to explain why that would be impossible to change. I travel a lot and this is the obly Hotel I ever saw where birds are welcome at the buffet. All in all very digusting...
Although we did not stay at they Auberge, -we were staying at the Hotel-Residence part of it-, we used the restaurant facility and bar. In the two occasions, one were the only people sitting in the bar waiting to be attended to, but it was observed how the bar tender will continue to work, serving drinks for the main restaurant, without asking us. When we actually were able to secure his attention, a woman (staff from the Rest.) asked us if we were going to eat. We responded that we would love to, and would like to see a menu, since we didn't have reservations. She acted like she could hardly speak English, and didn't want to seat us in the main dining room. We were trying to assess why, since we observed some empty tables. Our 1st guess, was, that perhaps we were not dress properly; however, we were. This is tropical Island with a very humid and hot temperatures, and in the Caribbean in top of that, clothing is very minimal, if you get my drift here. We did feel that this woman did not approved of our attire, or the way we looked. I guess. Anyway, at that point we didn't care, we just wanted to eat and enjoy the beautiful veranda overlooking the sea. I spoke to the bar tender, and expressed our observations. Once again, the attitude, if you are not French or speak French, we don't go out of our way for you. -Our attitude,...No Worries..You Will Still Serve Me, because I have the Cash $$$. Thank you very much...Next! Not for the faint of heart, for sure. We made the best out of it! It always helps to have cultural intelligence, and not to personalize it.
We spent 5 nights at the hotel. We had booked a Ocean View room and where given room #4. Our room had a side view of the ocean which was very nice you could see clearly across to Base Terre. There was plenty of storage in the room as well as the complementary bottled water was replaced daily. There is also a kettle in the room and was replenished promptly with tea and coffee daily. The rooms are a bit dated and could use a refresh as others have mentioned. Maid service was very good and prompt. A really nice touch is that they deliver a cookie/baked good at around 5 pm daily which paired nicely with evening tea . The pool side restaurant has a good shrimp salad and also a feta salad for lunch. The hotels fine dinning restaurant was just ok I thought, the service was very good though and the outdoor atmosphere is romantic. The breakfast buffet is amazing, everything from meats, cheeses, eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, fresh croissants and any style eggs you want, made to order crepes. It is included in room cost. Also on site free parking and very good free wifi. Most of the staff speak French and struggle to understand English. A few people at the front desk speak very good English and where very helpful when I needed help to book a reservation somewhere. Just a note overall regarding vacationing in Guadeloupe, unless you can speak alittle french you will have trouble in Guadeloupe, we spoke alittle and still had trouble reading the menu's at restaurants and talking to people. Guadeloupe is like Paris was 20 years ago, no one bothers to try and speak English, or print the menu's in English. English speaking tourists dont seem to be a priority. Good job Paris figured it out, Canadian and American tourism means lots of money. Unless Guadeloupe can make thing easier/more accommodating I cant see a reason to go back. Its too much work, and you cant have a conversation with anyone. Lastly, this hotel has a few restaurants in walking distance, Le Ti Maki, Le Napoli, are good. Entre Ciel et Mar and Le bord de Mer are down by the beach and are just ok, see my other reviews on those. If you want nicer and more selection of restaurants you have to go down to le Glosier marina area, its an easy 15 min drive but worth it. Only one pet pev, the hair dryer is the old style that mounts on the wall and has next to no power, takes forever to dry hair. Overall very nice hotel and good value.
Must say that the Auberge was suburb in accommodation and service. The staff at the Auberge is exceptional. The accommodation great. We spend a week there and enjoyed every minute. The breakfasts are outstanding. The beach a delight. Mostly though the staff shows real interest in its patrons, responsive, warm and understanding. Everyone is dressed impeccably, they are friendly knowledgeable and genuinely helpful in everyway from the housekeeping to the bar staff to the front desk. We were lucky to have such good weather. We enjoyed the beach, rented a car which the hotel facilitated, enjoyed the excellent cuisine of the restaurant. It could not have been a better stay even with the faltering French that we possess we were understood. Guadeloupe is a fascinating island with lots to do. Please enjoy.
