The hotel by itself is in need of restoration, which,i hope ,will happen in a near future..great location, nice grounds but bathrooms could be renovated..feels "old"..that said we found that every person at the front desk was wonderful, friendly, helpful..and in a way they more than made up for some of the minuses we found in this hotel.Because of this agreeable personnel i still would recommend that place if you go to Le Gosier
We stayed here on our last night in Guadeloupe based on some good reviews combined with the close proximity to the airport and we wanted to splurge a little. The hotel was very nice, set in an old windmill and plantation. Check in was nice, with complementary most towel and welcome drink. Our room was spacious and well appointed with safe, balcony, tv with more than 1 English cannel, bathroom with nice toiletries and a good bed. Hotel and grounds were nice - would kinda invoke thoughts of where Sean Connery's James Bond would stay. Beach, pool and bar are also on the property though be warned drinks at their beach shack are not cheap. We made a dinner reservation for their restaurant because we heard it was really good. Unfortunately, it didn't match the hype. In fact, it was probably the most disappointing dinner we had in Guadeloupe. Service was slow and inattentive - the waiter left our bottle of rose in the ice bucket and never opened it until we had to ask another waitress to open it when we were almost finished with our entrees. The food was ok, we had much elsewhere in Guadeloupe. My girlfriends fish and my pork were kinda ehh. In their defense, many reviews say their Ti Punch is among the best on the island and here I cannot argue. It was smooth and easy to drink. Other guys' Ti Punches could burn on the way down. Check out was very easy three next day. At check in, we mentioned to the staff we weren't going to be able to get breakfast because our flight was so early so she said she would tell the staff to prep something for us. At check out, we took the staff of this and he got us a baggie of nice warm croissants, pain au chocolates, and other pastries t.o take with us. All in all, a good stay. We would stay again but probably go elsewhere for dinner.
The Auberge de la Vieille Tour is an older property but kept up fairly well. It was built on a former sugar mill and the mill’s tower is included in the main building (there must be great views from the tower however it is used exclusively for hotel offices and guests cannot go up). The property consists of several low building spilling down a hillside to their beach and pool. A breakfast buffet is included but it is unremarkable. Dinners are good but a bit overpriced. We had a wonderful stay and didn’t see a better hotel on the island. The Air France crews stay here. One caution, there are a lot of steps and steep paths. This is not a location for those with mobility issues.
Stayed there for a night, for business. Received a warm welcome from the staff at the front desk, and check-in was quick. The room itself is quite basic, by Guadeloupe's standards, this is a four stars hotel, but in many places, it would more likely be a three stars. Breakfast is OK, with average food, but a stunning view of the sea
A classic old resort by all outward appearances, Auberge is actually rather tired and did not meet our standards for room comfort or dining. The shower leaked and caused puddles on the bathroom floor that worked their way into the bedroom. We were told it was the result of settling and couldn’t be fixed. And there are a lot of stairs down to the rooms (we had three flights) and back up to the main reception. The pool is ancient and we didn’t find it appealing. As for dining, do not eat dinner at the restaurant. We dined twice there and that was two times too many. Oddly, however, Room service is unexpectedly good. We gave this 3 circles because the staff was great and tried hard to satisfy, the breakfast was excellent and the view was very nice. It is convenient to the airport, too.
Stayed one night, courtesy of Air France, as my onward flight got cancelled. Beautiful place! Very friendly staff, good food, pool, gorgeous beach, nice pool, big spacious room (suite?) facing the sea. If I ever come this way again, I would like to stay again.
There are not a lot of good options for Guadeloupe so that hotel remains a good option . Although you can see that the time passed and they have the same style like decades before . All rooms have a sea view and the restaurant is small with a limited menu card . The private beach is nice with sun beds but not a lot of sun umbrellas. The swimming pool clean but no glam. If you want some peaceful days it's ok but there is no ambient in this hotel . Rooms are ok , clean and some have a Nespresso coffee machine. All have balconies but you can see that the rooms are little bit old fashioned . If you can't speak French ,like all over the island it will be difficult for your detailed communication. Reception tries it's best . If you want to travel to Guadeloupe it's a good choice , even if it's a bit overpriced. But if you want to avoid bad surprises according to your taste and perception of vacation then just look for another island .
I had dinner and drinks at this old style hotel. There is a beautiful view and the food and service were very good. It is a mix of European and Caribbean cuisine. The price is slightly expensive but reasonable for the quality of the food and style of the restaurant.
The Auberge de la Vieille Tour is located close to Pointe-à-Pitre - but on a nice beach - so a good location to visit the city or either of the large islands and beaches. On the other hand, keep in mind that there is a lot of traffic in Guadeloupe - so if you want to be out near the beaches and restaurants of Ste. Anne or further out - you might want to stay out there. We arrived late in the evening and found that our reservation had been cancelled, We were told that the service we used had inexplicably cancelled the reservation a few months ago - but they wouldn't tell us which service that was. In fact, I reserved directly with the hotel - so it was the hotel itself that cancelled the reservations, In any case, they were very nice and friendly and luckily had a room available - even an upgrade. The restaurant was going to close in 30 minutes so we went directly there - but we waited 30 minutes to be seated despite the fact that the restaurant was mostly empty. However, again, the staff was very friendly and served us dinner anyway. The room was comfortable - a bit old. Only one plug to use with devices. If the price was around €200 I would be more indulgent, but at almost €400 for a room I thought this was really not at all a good value. I guess this is because of the limited amount of hotels on the island compared to other islands in the region. The restaurant was also very expensive - especially compared to other excellent restaurants on the island. All in all - the staff was very friendly, but expensive for just a so-so hotel.
This hotel is lovely, if a bit worn. Staff is very helpful and accommodating, and does their best to assist non-French speakers. They are encouraging when you try to use their language. Location is good for walking to restaurants, and to the ferry to Ile de Gosier that runs all day (take some cash for the bar/grill.) Hotel restaurant is expensive and although lovely, just mediocre for the price. Breakfast is plentiful, and if you don't like what's on the buffet (runny eggs but awesome fruit - and plenty of great things to take along for snacking/lunching on the go), eggs to order are included. The omelette complet is very good. The staff does their best to chase away the little birds that crave anything sweet (les sucriers) but we thought they were adorable. If stray cats creeping around the table during an elegant dinner (they try to shoo them too) dining in at your hotel is not for you. We think it adds to the charm, and let's not forget where we are folks - it's Guadeloupe not Orlando. Let's not be uptight. If you have trouble getting around it's a bit of a hill down to the lovely beach. And it's quite a climb into the tub. A/C was more than adequate. In room safe very easy to use. There's a mini fridge and they supply your first big bottle of water. (You can buy more at the bar.) There's a hair dryer but as concerned as I am about this in my professional life, found I was at the beach so much it was better to just go au naturel. You won't know anyone anyway. Enjoy.
