Auberge de la Vieille Tour

I had dinner and drinks at this old style hotel. There is a beautiful view and the food and service were very good. It is a mix of European and Caribbean cuisine. The price is slightly expensive but reasonable for the quality of the food and style of the restaurant.

The Auberge de la Vieille Tour is located close to Pointe-à-Pitre - but on a nice beach - so a good location to visit the city or either of the large islands and beaches. On the other hand, keep in mind that there is a lot of traffic in Guadeloupe - so if you want to be out near the beaches and restaurants of Ste. Anne or further out - you might want to stay out there. We arrived late in the evening and found that our reservation had been cancelled, We were told that the service we used had inexplicably cancelled the reservation a few months ago - but they wouldn't tell us which service that was. In fact, I reserved directly with the hotel - so it was the hotel itself that cancelled the reservations, In any case, they were very nice and friendly and luckily had a room available - even an upgrade. The restaurant was going to close in 30 minutes so we went directly there - but we waited 30 minutes to be seated despite the fact that the restaurant was mostly empty. However, again, the staff was very friendly and served us dinner anyway. The room was comfortable - a bit old. Only one plug to use with devices. If the price was around €200 I would be more indulgent, but at almost €400 for a room I thought this was really not at all a good value. I guess this is because of the limited amount of hotels on the island compared to other islands in the region. The restaurant was also very expensive - especially compared to other excellent restaurants on the island. All in all - the staff was very friendly, but expensive for just a so-so hotel.

This hotel is lovely, if a bit worn. Staff is very helpful and accommodating, and does their best to assist non-French speakers. They are encouraging when you try to use their language. Location is good for walking to restaurants, and to the ferry to Ile de Gosier that runs all day (take some cash for the bar/grill.) Hotel restaurant is expensive and although lovely, just mediocre for the price. Breakfast is plentiful, and if you don't like what's on the buffet (runny eggs but awesome fruit - and plenty of great things to take along for snacking/lunching on the go), eggs to order are included. The omelette complet is very good. The staff does their best to chase away the little birds that crave anything sweet (les sucriers) but we thought they were adorable. If stray cats creeping around the table during an elegant dinner (they try to shoo them too) dining in at your hotel is not for you. We think it adds to the charm, and let's not forget where we are folks - it's Guadeloupe not Orlando. Let's not be uptight. If you have trouble getting around it's a bit of a hill down to the lovely beach. And it's quite a climb into the tub. A/C was more than adequate. In room safe very easy to use. There's a mini fridge and they supply your first big bottle of water. (You can buy more at the bar.) There's a hair dryer but as concerned as I am about this in my professional life, found I was at the beach so much it was better to just go au naturel. You won't know anyone anyway. Enjoy.

If possible the hotel has worsened its services, restaurant serving is slow, meals are served after long time and cold. Waiters just walk up and down along the room without having the knowledge there's customers waiting. If you don't speak French there's little chances you will be understood. I wouldn't recommend this place.

I had stayed at La Vieille Tour for the first time years ago. I came back recently in what was once a 17th century mill. I felt like nothing had changed. Of course I found the same prime location by the sea, the white sand beach, the swimming pool, the tropical garden, the old world charm of the colonial setting. Some parts have badly aged like my bedroom or some common parts. Service is often too long and prices are unfair. But to have a simple breakfast on the terrace and enjoy such a stunning view on the ocean is still a must.

With very few exceptions the staff here either don't understand a single word you say or ignore you anyway. Admittedly our French is poor but we try very hard, unlike the staff. The rooms are ok but not terribly clean and the restaurant is soul less and the menu unappealing. I lost count of the number of breakfast items that ran out and were not replaced, even when requested. There was no service at all near the pool and, even if it was out of season when we stayed, the ability to buy the odd drink of water wouldn't have come amiss. The most appealing part of the hotel were the iguanas outside our room, who lay and stared at us until we gave them food!

Access to a beautiful beach. Some food available for free in the fridge. Nice staff. Very nice view. Clean and nice room. Good location. We came late, but a lady was waiting for us and spent some time with us to explain us everything, although she already finished he work officially.

We spent 4 nights here, were very well taken care of, and enjoyed our stay. The staff was wonderful, the location great, right on the ocean in Le Gosier. The beach is small, but nice. The hotel could use a bit of polishing. And the room staff needs a bit of supervision, as they were a bit inconsistent. The food is very good, but rather formal.

First off, the plus: The views are breathtaking, since the complex ( the hotel consists of several low buildings) is right on the sea. The rooms are very clean. There is a large pool, and a nice little cove with a beach. The sea is great to,swim in Now the minus: My colleagues got rooms with a view, I got a room with a view on palm trees and a footpath. These lower rooms are perfectly adequate, but also, more prone to mosquitos...They stuck us on a side where there was an all night noisy wedding, although they had availabilities in another building The 25 € for breakfast is an affront, a rip-off, for what is on offer. excellent bread and pastries but that is about it. No English TV stations, heck, hardly any TV stations, should it rain. No hair driers in rooms, just the old burn-your-skin wall-mounted type Mattress slightly saggy = old The hotel is firmly stuck in the 70 ies, decor, tiles, rooms, it needs a major revamp. The pool is large, but the pool area is just sad and old and uninviting.Apparently no pool bar, no towel service

If you want be not to far from the airport but in a greeny place, closed to some of the best Beach restaurant at Guadeloupe Island Book there. Breakfast are great and all people are cheerful. 700m from nice beach
