Spent a night at the Punakaiki Resort on a road trip to Queenstown. The property is pretty isolated, but the coastal views are impeccable and the staff is super friendly. The room was comfy, but dated and the bathroom was a little moldy.

The Punakaiki Resort has been built between ocean and highway. We had a 'basic' room with ocean view. Most of these rooms have a small terrace where you can smell the see. Our room had no terrace but we had an extra window ... It was really too warm in the room ! Fortunately we did not have to stay in a room with 'garden' view because these rooms are really a bit too close to the road ... We were a bit disappointed by the quality of the meal : the soup was very good but the rest of the meal was just about average. The main course, lamb, was 'cooked' and not good at all. We recommend a short visit to the ... men's toilet ... You will definitely 'smile' ! All-in-all an acceptable stay but it should be possible to turn this place into a real gem.

Spent two nights here while exploring the spectacular coastline of western South Island. The grounds are landscaped to resemble a tropical island setting - many kinds of ferns, palms and flowers. Our room was across the highway and not directly on the beach, but we had a more scenic view of the coast and the main lodge than if we had had a beach side room; plus there was an underground tunnel walk that got us back and forth to the beach and lodge in a few minutes. Spacious rooms with great beds, a luxuriously designed bathroom, and sliding glass doors opening onto viewing balconies. Highly recommended.

One of the best places we stayed in nz. We stayed in the main lodge with a roaring fire and a really homely feel to it. They have a track for a 10 minute walk to the beach (same beach as the truman track). The only thing that nearly ruined my whole experience was the absence of coffee...then i remembered that i am british and there was free tea. Great place.

We stayed here on our travels through New Zealand. Sarah was very helpful from the moment we arrived. The setting was beautiful and the sunset was spectacular. We ate in the hotel and the food was lovely. A lovely place to spend a night.

Our room was right near the beach and very spacious. It was immaculately clean and comfortable. The bathroom is large with a nice but noisy shower. There is tea and coffee but not kitchenette with plates and bowls microwave etc. The lady at reception in the morning was very friendly but the ending lady was a bit sour. TIP Try the pub further up the raid for a meal. Similar prices, more extensive choice and friendly banter.

We stayed here for one night in July on our way up the west coast. It was cold outside, and the heater in the room wasn't sufficient and very old. The room was tired, and there was a dirty towel still in the bathroom from previous guests. We sat in the bar/ lounge area late afternoon and had to wait one hour until 5pm to get a drink. As we were guests staying at the hotel we felt the staff could have served us something, even if it wasn't alcoholic. We ate in the restaurant, we had a couple of issues but have to say the staff in the restaurant were very accommodating and helpful. The location in front of the beach was great, especially for sunset.

I loved the location and the staff were just lovely. Very attentive and helped resolve a heater issue, super quick. The food was pricier than many might expect but it was superb and I'd recommend the eggs Benedictine as a great way to start the day. Would have loved to have spent an extra night but we were on a schedule. The view was so breathtaking whether morning, noon and night! Winter is a great time if you want to avoid the crowds!

We had a great 2 days experience in this resort. Our room was facing the ocean and its just so relaxing! Comfy bed with electric blankets. Bathroom needs an upgrade. Room was spacious and you can just park your car outside your room. Its pretty much close to Punakaikis attractions. 👍

This is really a personal issue but for me to get from our car park space into the "Rooms / Cabin" was a walk with bags and caused an increase in knee pain. My wife and I were touring with sixteen others. The rooms were very good & well appointed, clean and comfortable and no noise other than the waves hitting the beach.
