Lovely resort right on the waterfront. Very close to the natural pancake rock formations. The view of the sunset from the room was spectacular. The sound of the waves can lull you to sleep. The rooms are large though the windows have to be kept shut to avoid the sand flies. Make sure that you are armed with adequate insect repellent.
I don't usually write negative reviews but was really disappointed with this hotel. Room was tired. Cracked tiles in bathroom. Rust on lamp by bed. Dirty drawer underneath the kettle unit. We chose not to eat in restaurant as no table available till late. It was obviously very busy so we just came back for dessert which took ages. Beautiful location near Pancake Rocks but could really do with a freshen up.
We stayed in a sea view room, could see the sea past a chimney. The room was rather dated. The staff were very nice. But the place did not justify the cost, all of the decor was old, bathroom door didn't close properly.
We had a one-night stay here and just loved the location, right on the beach. Spacious room with balcony and sea views, large shower room. The balcony was nice, but unusable as there were so many sandflies and we forgot to bring our insect repellant. The restaurant served excellent food for dinner, with attentive service. However, the barman at The Club Bar was inexperienced and unattentive. Would definately return for the location and restaurant.
I had a surprise birthday at the restaurant for my mothers 50th on the 9th Dec and it was perfect the staff were so good Kash helped me organise it all from Australia and made the night a really enjoyable one for everyone, they had set out a kids table with colouring sheets and pencils. The food was absolutely divine I loved it not one of the 30 people there had a bad thing to say about the food or service. Thanks for having us we will be back again without a doubt .
Fantastic views overlooking beach and ocean a few minutes from blow holes. Rooms clean spacious. Dinner was fine, though menu quite limited. Service generally good. Internet not very good. Breakfast quite poor, the hot dishes were cold, pastries poor.
Stayed here for one night with AT&T tour. One of the nicest places on the whole trip. It was so relaxing to be in a simple but very comfortable hotel. We had a room up high with a balcony over looking the ocean. Slept so well with the window on the balcony open! Beautiful sunset. Friendly staff. Perfect place for a quiet get away!
We stayed at the Punakaiki Resort as part of an AATKings coach itinerary. The rooms are simple and very adequate. The front windows face the beach which is only a few steps away--a great view. The sound of the waves sure made for a great sleep. We were cautioned however NOT to go into the water---undertow and riptides!!! The bar, dining, and service were very good.
This hotel's location is excellent, right on the beach with beach access. The restaurant is located perfectly so that you can look out over the Tasman, very scenic. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. In my opinion, the room was a little outdated but not to the point where it was uncomfortable. The bedding was comfortable. There is plenty of parking as well, but you may have to walk if you are in certain buildings on the property. Not too many food options around, but that is not attributed to the hotel.
We loved this hotel. The location is spectacular. The rooms are located behind the lobby and restaurant up the hill on the other side of the road. do not let this worry you. The rooms are fantastic, the view is fantastic, the beach is fantastic, the lobby views are fantastic, the breakfast buffet and restaurant are fantastic. The staff is fantastic. Need I say more. Loved loved loved. Gorgeous sunsets, star gazing and sounds of the surf
