Many historic houses and gardens are nearby, including Holker Hall and Sizergh Castle, and of course the area is famous as the inspiration for Beatrix Potter. The southern tip of Lake Windermere is only 6 miles away. There are good local walks in the area, including at Hamps Fell, Grange and Whitbarrow, near Witherslack. Grange with shops and restaurant 1½ mile, pub and restaurant 110 yards.

Hope Cottage is a lovely property, surrounded by trees.

Hope Cottage is a lovely property, surrounded by trees.It is a little isolated, but the benefits are the peace and tranquillity.Although we didn't take a stroll around the gardens behind the cottage, I'm sure they are very nice.In the past my wife and I have always gone to the northern lakes, so we haven't explored the southern area. But now, with health and mobility problems, it was nice to see places like Grange over Sands and Ulverston.You definitely need a car to explore the area.If you were to bring young children then you might find that they would possibly be bored, but the surrounding area is good for the more adventurous.A good place to sit back and relax!!!

Peaceful retreat

The property was more spacious than we expected, and well equipped. It is in a quiet setting, away from busy roads, though not too far from amenities in Grange-over-Sands. The cottage is in old sanatorium buildings which have been very well adapted, but there is no private garden - OK at a cooler time of year but we'd have missed one in the summer. Plenty to do in the area, being on the southern edge of the Lake District, but very accessible - only about 15 minutes from the M6. We were very tired and needed to 'crash'; it was a good place to do it!

All lovely except the upstairs shower never got up to temperature so was basically unuseable.
