Another wonderful stay at this excellent Hotel. Nothing is too much trouble and it is so nice to be remembered by reception staff bar staff and waiters when you return. Spotlessly clean and although maybe in need of slight updating I do hope that they do not lose the soul of the Hotel. The wonderful chandeliers, the wooden columns and bed heads shout out tradition, and are much more homely than the cold wood and laminate of its sister five star hotel. No hotel i have stayed at makes you feel so at home and appreciated. The friendly nature of all the staff who always say hello when they pass, is transferred to the guests who adopt a similar approach. Old young German french Spanish English all mix and show each other old fashioned courtesy. The Hotel is a peaceful escape from the noise of Playa De Ingles. A small example of the excellent service was being addressed by name by the Manager of the Hotel, also when seeing me suffering from a cough, finding a small plate of honey placed on my table. Wonderful service, food and staff. Yes you will find more luxurious rooms and more swimming pools but I can guarantee you will not find the service the staff the overall ambience and the feeling of being in your own home.

I just spent four days here as a solo traveller. I went expecting a decent hotel, no more, but have come back saying that I have to make this an annual or bi-annual trip. The hotel is top notch - very comfortable rooms (reserve a room with sea view if you can), large balconies, huge pools that at least when I was there always had enough loungers and really good food. I was on half board which I was not expecting to be anything great, but dinners are great with an overwhelming number of options and of very high quality, and breakfasts is a monster buffet. Staff is friendly and very professional. Location is pretty ideal - right on the dunes so you can walk to the beach in 15 minutes. Or a quick walk into town and stores. I had a car but once I parked on arriving, I didn't use it again until I left to go back to the airport. I do have three somewhat minor suggestions that would make it even better: - Put lights on the balconies to read after dark. It was too bad that once the sun set you can't read outside. If worried that people will leave them on all night or day, turn them off automatically at a certain hour until the next evening. - The gym could use better weight equipment. The cardio machines are very good - all modern Precor machines and are varied. However, the four weight machines are very limited, two of them are machines that don't get much use in big gyms. It would be better to have a few multifunctional weight machines that allow you to work all kinds of muscle groups. - And finally, charging to use the room safes is just cheap. And upgrade them to modern safes, they look like they're from the 70's. But overall I loved the hotel and location and will be back.

Great hotel with stunning views over the Maspalomas Dunes. Quiet, spacious room, beautifully cleaned every day. Lovely pool area. Food was good but at times could have been better - but not a problem.

Stayed here 2 weeks ago. quality hotel & nothing really negative apart from the entertainment is a bit dire but not from the want of enthusiasm on the teams behalf. This hotel would benefit from an indoor bar/seating area. .found it unusual there wasn't one.

I visited the Riu palace maspalomas for 5 nights in October as a solo traveler. The hotel grounds are stunning and very well kept. On arrival I was greeted by a doorman who took my bag for me. I was given. A glass of champagne and check in was quick. My room was huge with two beds, lots of wardrobe space and a bathroom with bath and shower. The room was very clean and made up every day. I had a balcony with a stunning view of the Dunnes and sea, it was great seeing the sunrise every morning. I stayed on a half board basis and found the food excellent with a huge variety for dinner all freshly cooked. Breakfast also had a good variety to suit all guests. You are allocated a table for dinner that remains your table and for the entire stay. The waiting on staff were excellent, professional and polite. I was always served quickly and after the first night my drinks were already on the table waiting for me when I arrived for dinner. The pool area is huge and I never had any problems getting a bed by the pool each morning at 9am. I read reviews about bad experiences for younger and solo travellers but my experience was excellent and staff treated me the same as all other guests. Excellent hotel that I hope to visit again next year

My boyfriend and I booked 5 days 4 nights here last month (September) as some time for us to relax and leave the 4 year old with her Grandparents. What an incredible experience we had! On arrival our cases were taken to our room and we were informed that dinner would be ready for us in 30 minutes, so a quick change of clothes and to dinner. So much selection, and woah such incredible high quality we were overwhelmed with choice. Defiantly something for every palate. We were asked as we ate if we wanted to dine in the other restaurant the following evening and what time suited for us so we did that, we assumed this as a Ala Carte would be extra so we thought and presumed it would have been charged to the room (we realised when we checked out nope it was included) this meal blew the previous night out the water it was immense. So much so I have since arriving home taught myself how to make Tuna Tartare as I wanted to and was keen to replicate it. I wont bore you all by waxing lyrical about the food. Although the next day was my birthday every member of hotel and restaurant staff wished me a happy birthday, petals on the table in the restaurant and a few candles such kindness, and the cava in the room went down a treat too. Our room over looked the sea (And magnificent) sand dunes, it was large and incredibly spacious, I had read a review here prior to departure saying if the bed is too firm just ask reception for a mattress memory foam topper and given I have Fibromialgia I opted to do this I had several wonderful and restful nights sleep I was sad I couldn't bring the topper home with us. The bathroom was a fantastic size with a giant mirror, only grumble about the bathroom was the step down to the bath n shower as it was rather slippy and deep (I am only 5ft 0" tall) and am used to grab rails at home. We found we were amongst the youngest in the hotel in terms as guests I am mid 30s n my boyfriend early 40s but all whom we spoke with were wonderful and kind, special mention to the couple sat behind us from South Wales the evening of my birthday who sung happy birthday to me. The cocktails in the bar were yummy and excellent value for money, fully recommend the fruit crush thing I forget its actual name and the strawberry margarita's. Thank you all for all you did for us.

Just returned from a week here. We are a couple in our mid to late thirties. Hotel is very grand and like other reviews state is not really modern but is very clean and I loved the charm of it. Swift check in with a glass of bubbles. Room 1069 was lovely, it had a spacious balcony and the room was cleaned to a high standard daily. My only grumble would be lack of room in the fridge as we like to buy water/ a few drinks for the room but it was full of over priced mini bar goods. Evening meal was fantastic, so much choice and to a very high standard. Breakfast was also good although would of liked some mushrooms or hash browns :) but still plenty to choose from. Service at meal times was 5* the staff are so helpful and friendly nothing is to much trouble. Our sitting was 20:30 which was a bit late so an earlier option would of been better. We also ate in the Krystal restaurant one evening which was very enjoyable and nice to have table service. We didn't really use the pools very much as we prefer the beach but both looked very clean and beautiful. Hotel Location is amazing right on the stunning dunes and a lovely walk along the promenade to the beach and some great bars(the tipsy hammock is a must if you love a mojito) 15-20 mins from the yumbo centre and 6 Euro taxi ride from aqualand. All in all I would highly recommend and would definitely go back :)

Champagne on arrival. Sit and relax they said, worried our room was not ready, No this happens to everyone. Lovely room, views, friendly, food amazing to much to choose. Entertainment not the best. Only two sitting for dinner try for the earliest one as 8 is to late. Slightly shocked by the nudists in the dunes and the amount of male couples together, Lovely holiday. We will be coming back. I hope they do not upgrade this hotel as it's very Spanish and just needs a little tlc. It is not tierd as we read in previous reviews, maybe a few loose tiles around the pool.

riu have not disappointed us yet again, outstanding service from all staff, food wonderful, hotel and extensive gardens all spotless, it is an older hotel but all the better for a bit of tradition, lots of beautiful wood and spaciousrooms. nothing is too much trouble for the staff, lots of staff in every department. quality of drinks served all known brands.will definetly be back

Lovely hotel, traditionally furnished with huge chandeliers, mirrors, wood panelling etc. Our room was a decent size, well laid out bathroom which had good lighting plus magnifying mirror helpful for make-up, and nice toiletries supplied. The room was also very quiet partly because the corridors were carpeted and an internal door in the room helped. A fruit bowl and bottle of sherry awaiting us was a nice touch, but possibly a daily bottle of complimentary water would have been even nicer. The food in the restaurant was fabulous though the charge of 2.30 euros for a small bottle of water at dinner was unreasonable particularly as others have said water is free at breakfast. Nor were we particularly keen on the allocated dining slots, something we have never encountered in similar standard hotels in the past and just caused unnecessary queues. We did try the a la carte restaurant one night and enjoyed the ambience but the choice was a bit limited. Evening entertainment was quite low key which suited us fine and drinks prices were fairly standard for a hotel but the measures were very generous. All areas of the hotel were kept really clean and tidy, including both pool areas and we had no problem finding beds. All the staff were pleasant and always said hello when walking past. We also loved the fact that there was no background music everywhere and games in the pool were actively discouraged so it's not a good choice for older children or teenagers really. The area around the hotel - other than the amazing dunes of course isn't particularly interesting, being mostly residential so anyone looking for night life would be better advised to stay nearer to Maspalomas itself. We don't usually revisit hotels we've stayed at but would make an exception for this one.
