I pay a lot of attention to TripAdvisor reviews and will often (rightly or wrongly) make a decision whether to visit a place based on comments made here and I haven't yet felt compelled to write a review....until now. We are a lesbian couple in our 30's from London and have stayed here 3 times in the last couple of years, the last trip being Nov'17. The hotel is grand (a little old fashioned) but very clean and the buffet meals are of a high quality. We have had no issues getting sunbeds on any of our trips and the facilities are adequate with the very small gym being a bit disappointing mostly due to its short opening hours. There is a small supermarket literally outside the hotel for anything you may need, the location right on the dunes is lovely and there is no real need to leave the hotel if you are just looking for a relaxing holiday. The majority of guests are aged 60+, a mixture of gay men and straight couples who are mostly German with some other Northern European couples evident. The staff assume everyone is German and address all guests in German first which I have no issue with. So we understand we are not the usual clientele for this hotel. In fact on our second trip here when checking-in the reception staff could not believe we had been here once and returned....and we won't be after our last visit. On our second day at this hotel we were returning from a trip around lunchtime and could see we were being watched by the reception staff. I don't think this is uncommon as a busy public walkway to the dunes runs between the two halves of this hotel so perhaps some non-guests try to come in for some reason. But we were guests. Reception staff began shouting from the desk at us asking if they could help could they possibly help? we were simply returning to our room. After politely being told we were fine as we made our way across the lobby one staff member ran out from behind the reception desk and blocked us from going any further into the hotel. He was clearly angry and was shouting at us that this hotel was not for "just anybody" and was asking us to leave. He had seen that we were 30 years younger than most of the other guests and that one of us is extensively tattooed and decided we couldn't possibly be staying here. To give him credit he did look terribly embarrassed when we told him our room number but the experience of being chased in front of other staff/guests and ordered out after insinuating we were not good enough to be paying customers made the rest of the week very uncomfortable. If you are thinking of staying here I would only recommend it if you are white, upper middle-aged and there is nothing about you that may unsettle the overly sensitive man in reception. Anyone not white, under 50, with children or with any tattoos (!) will be made to feel very uncomfortable.

We enjoyed the view, the relaxing beds at the pool and the beautiful weather. The hotel is old chique and a bit outdated. Many things are broken, paint and carpets need to be re-done. We had many ants in our first room on the ground floor but moved to the first floor in a clean and bug free room. The beds are quite firm but you can get a top mattress for free at the reception desk. Everywhere staff is extremely kind and helpfull. We recommend only breakfast. The buffet is big and the quality of the food is good. Dinner however is tasteless and boring. There are many good restaurants within walking distance.

Riu Palace Maspalomas is easily one of the most beautiful hotels in the world. I don't know how many times I looked up and just thought "wow". The location is amazing next to the dunes. On top of that, it's an exceptionally well-managed hotel. It is big, yet everyone is trying very hard to make your stay enjoyable. This, in my opinion, is rare. Lots of hotels have fancy facilities; very few can boast of such a friendly and efficient staff. Top-notch.

Second christmas at this hotel, wasn't sure I would go back as I am not a fan of playa del ingles but the hotel is so nice we returned. Glad we did, food wonderful, hotel and grounds are spotlessly clean, pool areas are lovely, majority of the staff are very nice , one barman I refused to let my husband tip as he was such a sour puss !!! My only one moan is the same as last year, the breakfast was only luke warm (bacon etc...) otherwise a great holiday and we will certainly return.

We stayed at this hotel last year, the staff, rooms,& the food was out of this world would definitely go back. Beautiful visited this hotel t again Christmas &new year couldn’t have picked anything better thank you to all staff

Now here’s a good one. A hotel that gives more than you bargained for. Be prepared to pay that extra for a better room with a beautiful sunset view over the dunes, in the from row of this holiday spectacle. Bring your bow tie, dinner jacket and sparkles to dine in the second sitting, and your sporty elegance for breakfast on the terrace. The staff is professional, friendly and attentive and this establishment prides itself on pleasing their clientele. At first impression the hotel is a bit “Fawlty Towers” with overstuffed armchairs and faded glory in the marble, brass and mirrors of the lobby, but the staff always come to the rescue. The empire glory of the hotel rooms may not be contemporary boutique and design, but soon one settles into the relaxation of a place that works like a Spanish dream. The location is the best - perched at the edge of the dunes, you can see people walking past wishing they were staying at your hotel. There’s a comfortable ease of slipping into holiday routine. Some like to grab the best sunbeds with best dune view, some like to be first at the desserts, some enjoy daily spa and sauna with their new friends, some just suntan nude on their balcony. Thank you to the staff for going the extra distance to deliver the promise, for all the over the top cooking, careful cleaning, ongoing logistics, maintenance, attention to requests, polishing doorknobs with toothbrushes, trimming and watering the beautiful gardens, and all the work that makes guests feel like a million bucks. The palm tree gardens are subtropical oasis at the edge of the Sahara. The pools are big enough for a morning swimming training and the heated pool water temperature is actually just right even midwinter. The Christmas gala feast is close to outrageous - this place is worth a visit just for Christmas dinner. The entertainment was good, even though I’m not a lobby bar type - it’s like your hotel is on a Caribbean cruise with wealthy retirees, lots a good looking men on holiday with other good looking men, and Northern European families who seem to be having a good family holiday. Riu Palace is definitely worth RE-visiting, and has clearly earned many faithful customers with good reason. Please just renovate the steam room and sauna, get an upholster to fix those old sofas, and keep up the good work!

I have visited this hotel many times since 2012, the hotel is traditional in style with what would have been expensive light oak wood panelled columns & wall panels when built. It is all of good quality with an abundance of glass chandeliers to offer brightly lit areas. The bedrooms are equally furnished, yes it does feel somewhat dated but my ethos is quality never goes out of style, but the negatives are the bathrooms, the shower is over a somewhat difficult to enter bath, with big step over, in my view somewhat unsafe. I would welcome a walk in shower when refurbished. The food is of a good quality overall, friendly efficient staff, beautifully kept pool areas & gardens. All in all a good run hotel. It must tick my box I will be back for more.

Our 4th visit here. The latest visit was over 7 nights 18-25 December 2017. The hotel in our opinion is situated in one of the best locations in Playa Del Ingles – on the edge of the resort and adjacent to the famous sand dunes. There are great views especially from higher rooms, level 3 and above. The staff are very pleasant and efficient and quite accommodating to requests. The food in the main buffet restaurant, breakfast and dinner, is plentiful and is of a high quality. As the guests are of various nationalities, the hotel appears to try and cater for most tastes however what is on offer will just not suit everybody all of the time. Every evening they offer a Canarias Corner of local foods. The bedrooms are comfortable and furnished in traditional style with plenty of garment storage space. There is a mini-bar fridge checked every day for usage, and a safe which can be used on a pre-charged basis via reception. The bathroom is fine, perhaps dated for some? – toiletries are supplied and replenished as required. Having checked with hotel management it would appear that smoking is illegal on the enclosed space of bedroom balconies – this is due to the physical shape and size the actual enclosed area. Some guests do smoke on the balconies which can be an irritation to others. A similar issue exists with some guests attempting to ‘’reserve’’ hotel sun-beds, pool side. The hotel is aware of these issues, however they do admit that such laws and difficult to enforce. We did not let these inappropriate behaviours spoil our stay. All going well we shall be booking up for another stay at this hotel sometime within the next 12 months!

My husband and I have just returned from our 14 night holiday at the Riu Palace Maspalomas and although we said we wouldn’t return until after refurbishment, owing to very limited disabled facilities, we are so glad we changed our mind as we have yet again, had a brilliant time. The hotel is meticulously clean both inside and outside and the staff in all areas/departments are first class, trustworthy, impeccably dressed, polite, friendly and efficient as well as being extra helpful whenever needed. The management team of Roberto Jimenez (Director) and David Rodriguez, (Subdirector) as well as the various heads of departments, all lead by example, being very visible and approachable with no job to small for them to undertake. The entire staff are a credit to both themselves as well as to the management. The food is excellent with choices for all, however, breakfasts as always are predictable, but the choice is there for your selection. The Krystal restaurant (avant-garde cuisine) is also available if you would like a change from buffet style....we enjoyed our selected dishes very much and would certainly book again next time....bookings are made via Head Waiter at no extra charge depending on your meal plan. Bedrooms are spacious with comfortable beds, spacious storage and a small refrigerator, there is also an in-room safe which you can hire for the duration of your stay. Bathrooms have over bath showers that have good water pressure, a wall unit hairdryer although this is quite weak and we managed to get a hand held one from reception but not sure how many they have available. You will also find dressing robes and a range of toiletries including body and hair gel, conditioner, body milk plus a travel accessory box. Free Wi-fi is good, being available throughout the hotel.. Pool towels are located pool side between 08:30 and 10:30, as well as thick mattresses for the loungers which seemed easy to find at various times of day. Guests are multi-national with a variety of ages, etc, however, this is a popular hotel with many returning guests year after year. Not really suitable for children. Outside, besides going down to the beach at the back of hotel, there are a number of shops at the front at your disposal. We tended to use the one off the right-hand side pavement, half way between the front of the hotel and the shopping precinct, which was easy to get to, accessible and fair prices. (At the end of the wall, turn right supermarket on left). Finally, thank you to all staff, too many to mention individually for making our holiday special.....Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year. Hope to see you soon....

it was our first time there and I am always looking for some flaw, however as much and as hard as look I really cant find anything of importance. We had a good room in the main building with a shower, I understand they are doing a lot of work and many more rooms will have showers hopefully with larger shower doors as the door at the moment is only bout 15 wide. The food is very good and a lot of selections for everyone. The staff are ALL very good and helpful Pablo on the reception was great. If you are not taller than 5ft I will tell you the box of tissues in the bathroom are on the wall above the magnifying mirror which we could not reach, sounds silly but as I said not much to find fault with. MAKE SURE YOU GET UP 7-30 TO 8AM so you can get a seat buy the pool, you will always find one but not buy the pool but there are lots of other places to sit. The entertainment is good NOT GREAT music and dancing and a few shows. Its is a lovely hotel but lots of walking and I would says defiantly 65+ no children there and nothing for them to do ?? But if you want to relax and have nice people to help you then this is for you. I AM HOPNG TO GO AGAIN we met LOTS of people who had been there 5/7/8 times for 35 euros you can rent a safe
