AC Hotel Gran Canaria by Marriott

Definitely below expectations for a 4* hotel. Room service options very limited. Portions at restaurant tiny. Terrace closes at 6pm. No furniture on balcony. Internet extremely slow. However, view is beautiful.

Hard to believe this is a four star hotel, much less a Marriott. The only entrance to the hotel is up a steep flight of stairs with no bellmen there to assist arriving guests with their bags. While we were two registered guests in our room, there was only 1 robe in the room and rarely did the maid actually leave two full sets of towels. Breakfast service was equally poor. Guests were left waiting for plates at the buffet. Coffee makers frequently ran out of water and guests had to seek out staff to refill them. Our electronic key cards stopped functioning at various times. Not quite Fawlty Towers, but very close. Marriott Management has fallen down seriously. Stay elsewhere in Las Palmas.

This hotel was absolutely amazing for a four-star resort. We loved everything about it. The staff is well trained, very helpful and always smiling. Our room was spacious and very modern, and it had modern technical facilities. Their restaurant served wonderful food for reasonable prices. Will definitely come back.

Nice hotel, well maintained, nice view from higher rooms and breakfast room (23rd floor). Nice breakfast. The parking is actually outside the hotel in a private parking, but it is only 2 minutes walking distance. The hotel is very close to the nice beach of Las Canteras where many restaurants are available.

We had short stay here on way out with early morning flight. Really nice for a four star hotel. Parking is a pain as expected and the aquarium lot is hard to get to so we ended up paying 26 euros to park nearby but it was Carnival time so that may have been the reason prices were even higher than usual. They gave us good recognition for Marriott status and a nice upgrade. They even had an early breakfast spread put out at 4 in the morning - much appreciated and unusual. View and location excellent. Nice modern rooms, soft towels and sheets (though beds are very firm) and generally comfortable and well furnished. Also great balcony for viewing city and beach. Classic hotel and better than expected.

Due to a 23hr flight delay we were put up in this hotel for the evening, as we had no idea where we were staying until we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. Stayed on the 17th floor views were great. Beds were extremely comfortable. Big thank you to hotel staff for putting us up at such short notice, food was lovey too.

Was very disappointed by this 'Marriot' hotel. So many things let it down. Paid a lot to stay there too, and expected better. No safes available in the rooms for a start. We were given a key to use No 16 safety deposit box in reception and it had someone's personal papers in it already! Bit scary! Wasn't very confident about using the facility after that. Rooms were OK. Beds and pillow really comfy but nowhere to put make-up on, dry hair, etc. Only the no use trying to get ready two at a time! There WAS one thin mirror in the bedroom but it was right by the door and in complete darkness! Different number of towels left by the maid each day ...did she know how many people were using the room, I wonder? As well as having to ring for towels/bath mats a couple of times, we had to ring for bottled water too, when she forgot to leave us any. The breakfasts were ok but the chairs and tables were almost all really low height so anyone over 5 ft tall had to sit really awkwardly to eat their breakfast. Not a great aid to digestion. Why use such inappropriate seating in a breakfast room? The food available was all right but no opportunity to have omelettes, pancakes or anything made to order. All buffet style. Same every day. Not as good as I expected. Lukewarm water in hot tea urn, so had to find a member of staff to get me boiling hot water every day for tea. This would come in a variety of pots and jugs! The sliding (hanging) glass door to the bathroom LOOKED trendy but was so badly fitted it clanged and banged every time you walked past it. Why hadn't maintenance sorted it out? It was so loud. It was 'fixed' at our request with something wedged behind it...but of course that made it difficult to open! There was a bizarre tiny lift (no sides to the compartment) from the street to the reception but it was hidden away and as the hotel shuttle bus driver didn't tell us it was there, we had to lug heavy cases up a flight of steps to get into the hotel! On the plus side, the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel location was great (not for views on our side...we overlooked the port...but for access to buses, restaurants, bars. Only a short walk to Las Canteras beach and prom). We did make use of the free airport shuttle which was much appreciated. The pool area right at the top of the building was quite nice nice (although the pool was freezing!) All in all...overpriced, and I just didn't think it lived up to the Marriott standard I was expecting.

My husband and I recently stayed here for a week. The hotel has a great location and due to its unusual circular shape makes it easy to locate when out exploring Las Palmas. The rooms are comfortable and very clean, however sometimes our room would not be cleaned until late afternoon which was a bit inconvenient if you had been out all day and just wanted to chill out in the room when you came back. Originally we were put in a room on the 14th floor however the very understanding reception staff moved us to a room on the 4th floor due to my fear of heights. There is a small swimming pool at the top of the hotel which I swam in a couple of days, however it is not a heated pool and was quite cold. There was a bit of confusion about drinks around the pool however. One day we were allowed to take a couple of glasses of wine up to the pool area, the next day when my husband went to the bar to ask for a couple of glasses of wine to take up to the pool, he was told by a member of staff in the restaurant bar that it was not allowed. There is a small lounge downstairs that you can go to read which we did one day and found it very pleasant.

My wife and I stayed for two weeks over Christmas and New Year. We had a lovely room with a great view. We particularly like the Nespresso machine that has been added to the room since we were there in the summer. The reception staff were friendly and helpful as always - particularly Salvador and Jose (who we found out was having his final shift before moving to a new job - he will be sorely missed on reception). We had drinks and dinner in the hotel bar/restaurant on the 23rd floor. Wonderful views of the port, good service (particularly from David) and choice of food (the Fish and Chips was very good). The free shuttle service to and from the airport is excellent (check with hotel for timings). A wonderful stay and we will be back.

I’ve stayed at my fair share of Marriott properties and always have great experiences with the AC brand. This hotel was no exception. Staff was friendly and housekeeping very thorough. Rooms have been updated, but likely not recent. Shower pressure is slightly lacking but ok. My only real gripe with this hotel is that parking is offsite and confusing. There are apparently two options and we chose to park at the mall where Hiper Dino is. Our issue is we couldn’t figure out where the parking attendant is, after looking all over the mall and both floors of the park are. We needed to find the attendant because you need to tell them you’re with the hotel. After giving up, we just paid the 16 euros and then learned to park in the aquarium lot down the street for 2.50 euros per day!!!! The other issue with this hotel is dropping off luggage, if you come by car. Their are limited spots to stop your car and there IS an elevator. We made the mistake of angering the neighbors by blocking the lane way to unload and check in. We also made the mistake of lugging our bags up the stairs, before we realized there was a freight elevator.
